STuDENT CAP CErEMONY – A FrESHMAN CELEbrATION DAY
Greta Elva Head of Event Management TUT Student Union greta.elva@tipikas.ee
“Look to your left and now look to your right. This is not the time or the place, where I tell you that some of the people, who are sitting beside you, will not be seen in the next semester. Just the opposite. These are the people, whom you want to be in contact with. The most hard-working, gifted and successful ones from every faculty. I was also amongst you a few years ago, recieving my student cap from the Rector and maybe, just maybe someone from this audience will be giving the very same speech here in the near future.” (a fragment from the TUT Student Union chairman, Stanislav Štõkov´s speech) For years, the Student Union of TUT and the Rector of Tallinn University of Technology Andres Keevallik have recognized 100 best starters, whose average grade is impressively high already during the first semester. Same goes for this year, however, this time it is conducted on the basis of a new statute, which determines that those ten freshmen from each faculty and five freshmen from each college, who have completed the full-load study requirement with the highest average grade, receive a student cap with an emblem on it and signed by the Rector. The grey colour of the student cap symbolizes the steely toughness and tenacity in knowledge acquisition of our student body. White is the colour for peace, progress, and high morale. Cherry read expresses joy of life, thirst for action, and glowing. During the academic year of 2012/2013, the student cap was awarded to 103 best starters with two people sharing the same place in three faculties. This year’s best starters by faculties are: Faculty of Civil Engineering 1. Andres Aava 2. Jana Krivorukova 3. Kadi-Liis Minn 4. Karl-Villem Võsa 5. Kerdo Koppel 6. Kristina Smirnova 7. Marcus Joller
