DIGITAL DRAWING

This was our first project of the class and we used Corel Painter. We had plenty of photos and videos to help us out with understanding the assignment and understanding the program. We had to develop skills in observational drawing, using a photograph as a reference. The image had to have three dimensional qualities and use a full range of values from the darkest shadows then to the lightest highlights. We needed to develop skills in shading, use a variety of drawing techniques like hatching, cross-hatching, stippling and scumbling. We had to incorporate the five principles of shading, which is highlights, shade, shadow, reflected light and back shading.

Kaleidoscope

We used Corel painter for this project, using the mirror painting tool. We needed to drag out the mouse to create a flower like pattern, in order to activate the Kaleidoscope tool. We can adjust with the segment settings to set the desired amount of lines of symmetry that will mirror what you did on one segment. We used the painting tool with brushes from the Particles subheader, the different types are thick, thin and glow. We also used the distorto brush in the liquefy menu. We developed skills in abstract drawing as we drew nonrepresentational patterns. We focused on balance using the principle of designs, we also focused on symmetrical balance, asymmetrical balance and radial balance.

Mirror Drawing

The aim of this project was to create a symmetrical digital painting. We need to utilize the mirror drawing tool to aid in creating an accurate symmetrical drawing. We need to identify and create symmetrical balance in terms of creating the composition of a digital painting. We needed to order layers to ease and assist in the drawing process. We needed to identify and use complementary color schemes in our digital painting and making a concise and appealing color scheme is hard to achieve, but you can see I chose the complimentary colors red and green. We used underlying layers and the symmetry/mirror painting tool, set vertically. Our design should be abstract. We needed to focus on scale, line and shape, then value, contrast, texture and space.

Op Art Blobs Project

For this project we needed to create asymmetrical art that uses line and value through shading. We needed to use the pens and pencils tools to create clean linework. We needed to use the airbrush, acrylic, watercolor or the soft pencil tools to create value and highlights. In order to create form, through the use of the screen and multiply blending layers. The ability to identify and utilize an analogous color scheme is very important as the colors should make sense when combined. The main idea of this project was to use previous skills and tools used in the earlier drawing and painting assignments, including layers, to be effective in this project. We honed in on color, line, value, balance and rhythm.

Filter Effects With Adobe

This exercise was to learn more about photoshop. We had videos to watch to learn about filters using photoshop, another video we had to watch, and work with it step by step to complete these exercises. How filters work is very interesting, it completely changes the work of art and gives it a new life. Filters are used to change the appearance of an image, layer or selection in photoshop. As described, filters are mathematical calculations that are applied to an image or a layer. Filters are grouped into 14 sub-menus that can change, distort, or manipulate an image. We needed to apply 2 to 5 different Filters to a single image.

Techno Person Photomontage

The objective was to develop skills in digital imaging with Adobe Photoshop. We produced a photomontage using Adobe Photoshop that uses a theme that revolves around the idea of humans and technology combined. We developed and utilized skills learned in previous exercises using filters, layers, layer masking, blending modes and adjustment layers. We use new Photoshop skills like making selections, creating clipping masks, and painting layers to the composition. A photomontage is a multi-image picture created with a photographic film. Photomontage works are often constructed to convey a message, which could be a commentary on environmental, political, social issues.
