RTG CHAMPIONS HARARE’S URBAN RENEWAL WITH THE TRANSFORMED NEW AMBASSADOR HOTEL

RAINBOW TOURISM GROUP
Motivated by a desire to elevate the guest experience, optimize operational efficiency, and align with cutting-edge international hospitality standards, the New Ambassador Hotel has recently underwent significant upgrades, further boosting Zimbabwe’s burgeoning hospitality sector. This comprehensive US$500,000 renovation, part of the Rainbow Tourism Group’s (RTG) broader infrastructure upgrade plan across all its facilities in the country, was finalized in March 2025. The hotel is strategically and ideally located in the vibrant heart of Harare’s Central Business District (CBD).
The extensive New Ambassador Hotel project breathed new life into all 72 guest rooms, including the executive and junior suites. Each room now has a distinct transformation, with layouts reconfigured to maximise space and functionality. All furniture and fittings were replaced with contemporary, stylish pieces, including new headboards, bedside tables, and sophisticated lighting that collectively create a clean, inviting, and comfortable ambience.
(Double Room.)
Embracing the needs of the modern traveller, international power outlets, including 3-pin, USB, and Type-C charging options, have been integrated for unparalleled guest convenience. The aesthetic direction for the rooms leans towards a warm, neutral colour palette, carefully chosen to promote relaxation and a profound sense of calm.Functionality and inclusivity were paramount, thereby extending beyond the aesthetics. Bathrooms were strategically relocated to further enhance room spaciousness and utility.
They now standout with brand-new vanities, elegant walk-in showers, modern water-saving toilets, and upgraded tiling on both floors and walls, delivering a sleek, contemporary finish.
In a commendable move towards greater accessibility, the refurbishment also included the addition of a paraplegic accessible room, demonstrating the hotel’s commitment to inclusivity for guests with mobility impairnents.
Communication infrastructure received a significant upgrade as well, with all in-room telephone handsets replaced by modern units, and the hotel’s Wi-Fi system overhauled to provide all-inone, high-speed, scalable, and secure internet access – a vital amenity for today’s connected travellers and event organizers.
Speaking during a recent media tour, Pride Khumbula, RTG’s Corporate Affairs & Quality Manager, underscored the refurbishment as a strong indicator of the Group’s commitment to quality, guest comfort, and sustainable practices. “The upgrades have been carefully planned to enhance both aesthetic appeal and operational performance, with a view to positioning the New Ambassador Hotel as a preferred destination for business and leisure travellers in central Harare,” she stated.
Sustainability is a central pillar of RTG’s refurbishment philosophy. The hotel now proudly features environmentally smart innovations such as low-flow flushing systems in toilets, which remarkably reduce water consumption by up to 30 percent per flush. Furthermore, the entire property is now illuminated by energy-efficient LED lighting, significantly contributing to overall energy conservation. These efforts highlight RTG’s commitment to embedding sustainable practices into every facet of its operations.
(Twin Room.)
(Standard Room.)
The New Ambassador Hotel’s strategic location within Harare’s CBD is a key advantage. It offers unmatched convenience, being within comfortable walking distance of major financial institutions, governmentdepartments, commercial centres, diverse retail outlets, cinemas, and significant cultural landmarks, including the National Museum and Art Gallery.
This prime position makes it an ideal choice for both local and international guests seeking a blend of comfort, convenience, and rich cultural connection.
(Double Room.)
This significant investment in the New Ambassador Hotel is part of RTG’s broader, five-year US26 million infrastructure upgrade program. This progressive plan has seen substantial enhancements across its portfolio. Notably, in July 2024, the Group completed a monumental US5.2 million renovation of the iconic Rainbow Towers Hotel and Harare International Conference Centre (HICC). This extensive project included the creation of six new luxury diplomatic suites and a sprawling Presidential Suite, ingeniously developed by combining four rooms into a premium space featuring two en-suite bedrooms, a lounge, a dedicated dining area, a well-appointed kitchenette, and a convenient visitor’s bathroom.
Additionally, 48 guest rooms at Rainbow Towers were modernized, and the HICC received new, state-of-the-art conference seating, thoughtfully equipped with integrated charging ports for 3-pin, USB, and Type-C devices – a clear nod to the demands of modern conferencing.
RTG also injected US$380,000 into the refurbishment of its Victoria Falls properties in the first quarter of 2025, namely the Victoria Falls Rainbow Hotel and A’Zambezi River Lodge. These widespread investments collectively underscore RTG’s mission to provide world-class hospitality experiences in both bustling urban centres and prime tourism destinations.
(Standard Room.)
Tendai Madziwanyika, Chief Executive of Rainbow Tourism Group, articulated the strategic importance of these refurbishments in advancing RTG’s core business objectives and playing a pivotal role in the revitalization of Zimbabwe’s entire hospitality landscape. “As RTG, we view infrastructure investment as a strategic lever for growth, differentiation, and long-term value creation.
The refurbishment of the New Ambassador Hotel is part of a deliberate plan to modernise our assets, uplift our city-centre offering, and contribute to urban renewal in Harare’s CBD,” he affirmed.
(Double Room.)
(Standard Room.)
He further emphasized, “We are not just upgrading hotels—we are elevating the guest journey, improving accessibility, embedding sustainability, and supporting Zimbabwe’s tourism and economic development agenda. Our investment signals confidence in the future of Zimbabwean hospitality and reflects our belief that exceptional service must be matched by exceptional spaces.” The “new look” of the New Ambassador Hotel, with its modern, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing rooms featuring international sockets, now positions it competitively as one of Harare’s top hotels in the three-star space.
All furniture was proudly sourced and made locally, highlighting a commitment to local craftsmanship. Initial feedback has been positive, with guests expressing delight at the transformation. To ensure the longevity of these renovations, RTG adheres to an approved cyclical Product Improvement Plan and employs a “Rainbow Fix” maintenance strategy, involving daily proactive spot checks by maintenance teams across all hotels.
The modernized rooms embody the property’s forward-looking vision of offering a contemporary, comfortable, and sustainable guest experience. Through the combination of a sleek design, optimized space, and eco-conscious features, the hotel is now well-positioned as a smart urban destination for today’s discerning traveller.
These elements are not merely about aesthetics; they represent a significant step toward creating a future-ready hospitality environment that not only meets global standards but also caters specifically to the needs of the local and regional market. The enhanced comfort of the new rooms powerfully underscores the hotel’s commitment to redefining affordable luxury in the vibrant heart of Harare’s

HEALING BEYOND BORDERS: REGENERATIVE MEDICINE AND MEDICAL TOURISM IN ZIMBABWE
Restore. Rejuvenate. Rediscover Africa in Zimbabwe
A Premier Destination for Medical Tourism
Zimbabwe is emerging as a premier destination for medical tourism, blending world-class regenerative medicine with the natural beauty and tranquility of Africa. For patients seeking advanced care without traveling to distant continents, Zimbabwe offers a unique opportunity to heal, rejuvenate, and recover in a serene environment.
At the Forefront of Regenerative Medicine
Leading this medical revolution is regenerative medicine—an innovative field that harnesses the body’s own ability to repair and restore itself. Our clinic specializes in advanced therapies including Autologous Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) with or without GOLDIC® technology, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, ozone & cryo chamber treatments. These therapies have shown remarkable results in managing chronic conditions, sports injuries, arthritis, and age-related concerns, giving patients the chance to heal naturally and effectively.
Integrating Aesthetics and Wellness
In addition to regenerative therapies, we provide a comprehensive range of aesthetic services. Combined, these offerings place Zimbabwe firmly on the map as a hub for both advanced medical care and luxury aesthetics. Patients can access science-driven treatments designed not only to restore health but also to enhance beauty and confidence.
Healing in Harmony with Nature
Choosing Zimbabwe for your treatment goes beyond medicine—it is about healing in harmony with nature. Recovery unfolds not in sterile isolation, but against the backdrop of vast landscapes, gentle wildlife, and African warmth. Many patients combine their treatment with a restorative safari experience, where the calm of Zimbabwe’s wilderness accelerates both physical and emotional recovery.
Safe Travel and Seamless Support
For international travelers, we understand the risks of long-distance journeys, especially after surgery or for those with chronic conditions. Long-haul flights can increase risks of blood clots, dehydration, and fatigue. Zimbabwe offers a closer, safer option for patients around Africa reducing flight times while ensuring access to advanced care. Our dedicated airport clinic and ambulance services provide seamless medical support from the moment you arrive.
Redefining Medical Tourism
Zimbabwe is redefining medical tourism—merging science, nature, and culture into a healing journey like no other. Here, your treatment is not just about recovery, but about the restoration of body, mind, and spirit

AIR ZIMBABWE
SET TO INTRODUCE FLIGHTS BETWEEN HARARE AND MUTARE FOR SANGANAI/HLANGANANI WORLD TRAVEL EXPO
Air Zimbabwe has announced the launch of daily return flights between Harare and Mutare from September 8 to 14, 2025. This strategic move is in anticipation of the highly-awaited Sanganai/Hlanganani World Travel Expo, which is scheduled to take place from September 10 to 12 in Mutare. This new flight service is a key part of Air Zimbabwe’s turnaround strategy, which aims to expand its domestic route network and improve connectivity across the nation.
By offering these flights, the national carrier is demonstrating its commitment to making travel within Zimbabwe easier and more accessible, directly supporting the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry's efforts to grow the sector. The decision to host this year's Sanganai/Hlanganani in Manicaland Province presents a unique opportunity to showcase the Eastern Highlands, one of Zimbabwe's most beautiful and diverse tourism destinations. Air Zimbabwe is playing a crucial role in enabling this by providing a convenient travel option for exhibitors, delegates, and visitors.
According to Air Zimbabwe Chief Executive Officer Mr. Edmund Makona, this operation is a pilot project designed to test the market's response and explore the long-term viability of the route. He stated that if there is sufficient demand, the airline is prepared to make the Harare-Mutare route a permanent part of its network. The new flights also offer seamless connections, allowing passengers to travel between Victoria Falls, Harare, and Mutare, thereby facilitating a multi-destination travel experience within Zimbabwe. Travelers from Mutare will also have easy access to regional and international connections via Harare.
Air Zimbabwe has collaborated closely with the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ), Airports Company of Zimbabwe (ACZ), National Handling Services (NHS), and the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) to ensure all necessary infrastructure and support services are in place for a smooth operation. Mr. Makona emphasized that Air Zimbabwe is more than just an airline; it is a bridge connecting people, cultures, and opportunities. He added that the new flights are proof of the airline’s dedication to growth, its belief in Zimbabwe’s tourism potential, and its determination to keep the nation flying high. To further enhance convenience, the airline has also partnered with PayNow, enabling customers to easily book and pay for their tickets online from anywhere.
A WILDERNESS REVIVAL:
ROBINS CAMP REIMAGINES THE HWANGE SAFARI
Imagine waking up to the sounds of the African bush, surrounded by the incredible wildlife of Hwange National Park. This is the experience offered at Robins Camp, a historic safari destination that has been revitalized to blend modern comfort with its authentic origins. The camp provides the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation, making it an ideal escape for those seeking a genuine connection with nature.
Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe’s largest park at 14,600 km², is a place of remarkable diversity. Its landscapes range from the desert scrubs on the edge of the Kalahari to granite hills, mopane and teak woodlands, and wide grass plains fringed by palm trees.
This variety supports a thriving ecosystem with over 100 species of mammals and nearly 400 species of birds. The park is home to one of the world's largest elephant populations and is also a haven for other rare animals like the Roan and Sable Antelope. During the dry season, massive herds of buffalo can be seen traversing the plains, making for spectacular sightings. The abundance of prey also explains why the Robins Camp area boasts the highest concentration of lions in the park. Cheetah and African Wild Dog are also regularly spotted, adding to the thrill of the safari.
Robins Camp itself is steeped in history. It is named after Herbert George Robins, an early conservation pioneer who donated his land to the park. His vision was to protect the wildlife and landscapes he cherished, ensuring they could be shared with future generations. For decades, the camp has been a sentinel at the gateway to Hwange's rugged beauty, its surrounding terrain a haven for elephants, predators, and diverse birdlife.
Today, Robins Camp has been meticulously revitalized under new private management and is proudly endorsed by Machaba Safaris. This family-run safari company is known for its deep commitment to conservation, community, and classic safari values. The partnership ensures that the camp honours its rich heritage while benefiting from Machaba’s expertise, sustainable ethos, and warm, personal approach to hosting.
The camp is situated in the rugged northern basalt area of the park, an area rich in natural water with seeps and springs. Its varied scenery of hills, kopjes, and vlei areas offers plenty of opportunities for wildlife enthusiasts. Robins Camp welcomes children of all ages, allowing for memorable family safaris. Guests can choose to self-drive or opt for a fully guided trip.
The experience remains true to its roots: an honest, immersive safari that connects guests to the land, its people, and its wildlife. It is an adventure that respects the past, celebrates the present, and safeguards the future, offering a rare kind of safari grounded in history and alive with the rhythms of the African bush.
Pioneers Victoria Falls is a charming and peaceful retreat just 2.5 kilometres from the spectacular Victoria Falls. Tucked away in a quiet residential suburb, the lodge is the perfect blend of nostalgic explorer spirit and modern comfort. Surrounded by lush gardens and manicured lawns, Pioneers offers a tranquil escape for every traveller.

Deeply committed to sustainable tourism, the lodge is largely powered by solar energy, and proudly supports local conservation efforts, including anti-poaching initiatives, wildlife research, and anti-litter campaigns. Above all, the lodge’s greatest pride is its hospitality.
The heart of the lodge is the warm and inviting main area. Here, you'll find a cozy lounge, a classic dining room, and a spacious outdoor terrace for relaxed meals. The saloon-style bar serves a variety of refreshing drinks, including locally brewed craft beer made with water from the mighty Zambezi River.
For a little extra relaxation, you can unwind in one of the two swimming pools or treat yourself at the day spa. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, and while all rooms are non-smoking, designated smoking areas are provided for your convenience.
From the hands-on owners and friendly managers to the dedicated team, Pioneers Victoria Falls ensures guests feel welcome and at home from the moment they arrive. Whether it's your first time visiting Victoria Falls or a return to a place you love, the lodge offers a comfortable and peaceful base for your adventures.
ZIMBABWE'S TOURISM AND TRANSPORT SECTORS TAKE FLIGHT WITH KEY UPGRADES
Zimbabwe recently showed its commitment to its burgeoning tourism sector, with the official opening of the prestigious Khami Lounge and the commissioning of the new National Handling Ground Equipment at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport. The event, officiated by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Hon. Felix Mhona, highlighted the vital and inseparable relationship between transport and tourism as key drivers of the nation’s economic growth.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Mhona emphasized that a world-class tourism industry cannot exist without efficient and reliable aviation services. "Transport and tourism are inseparable engines of growth, driving Zimbabwe's vision of seamless travel where every journey begins as a memorable adventure," he stated. The newly acquired equipment, which will also be deployed at Victoria Falls and Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airports, is set to revolutionize ground handling operations. It will enhance baggage handling, improve service reliability, and ensure a smooth and rapid turnaround for aircraft, sending a clear signal to the world that Zimbabwe is a premier travel destination with state-of-the-art facilities.
Closing the event, the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Hon. Barbara Rwodzi, hailed the milestone as a tangible symbol of progress. She underscored that the essence of tourism extends beyond iconic attractions, encompassing the warmth of the Zimbabwean welcome and the efficiency of the services provided to every visitor. This development is particularly timely, as Zimbabwe has recently been thrust into the global spotlight. According to Kayak’s 2025 Travel Check-in Report, Zimbabwe has been ranked the best country to visit, an accolade that reflects the nation's exceptional blend of breathtaking landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and world-class safari experiences. This prestigious ranking is supported by a significant surge in flight searches to major cities like Harare and Bulawayo, indicating a rising global interest in the country.
As tourist arrivals continue to grow, these advancements in transport and hospitality infrastructure guarantee smooth journeys and exceptional experiences, further cementing Zimbabwe's status as a must-visit destination. The collaboration between the transport and tourism sectors is a testament to the nation's strategic vision for sustainable growth, ensuring that every visitor's journey is a seamless and unforgettable adventure.

JABULANI SAFARIS: A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO CONSERVATION AND COMMUNITY
Jabulani Safaris, an integral part of the Shangani Sanctuary, is setting a powerful example in Zimbabwe’s tourism sector by blending luxury safari experiences with a deep commitment to social responsibility and wildlife conservation. Guided by the philosophy of "Doing The Right Thing For A Better Tomorrow," the lodge's mission extends far beyond offering a safari getaway, actively working to uplift local communities and protect precious wildlife for future generations.
A cornerstone of Jabulani's community efforts is its close relationship with Pezulu School, a local primary school providing education to approximately 80 students. While the school premises are well-kept, basic classroom requirements—such as desks, pens, pencils, and textbooks—are a luxury. To address this, Jabulani has created a program that allows guests and volunteers to become directly involved in the students’ development, contributing to their hopes and dreams. This focus on job creation and education is central to the lodge’s mission, ensuring that the local community is a direct beneficiary of its operations.
On the conservation front, Jabulani Safaris is at the forefront of a new initiative to re-introduce wildlife into the sparsely populated Shangani Sanctuary, an 89,000-hectare game-fenced wildlife sanctuary. The lodge itself provides refuge to over 40 species of wildlife, including large herds of eland, impala, sable, and zebra, as well as a host of birdlife and smaller predators.
This pristine wilderness is preserved for future generations, countering the long-term threats of poaching and human settlement. A crucial part of this conservation effort is a consistent program to expose local children to wildlife, imparting a love for animals and the natural environment.
Jabulani also empowers local inhabitants by giving them a financial stake in the preservation of their wildlife through eco-tourism and agricultural initiatives. This model fosters a lasting and stable ecosystem, ensuring a future for the local families and the wildlife that depend on the land. The lodge itself, nestled in natural savanna and granite kopjes, offers eight thatched en-suite chalets and a separate camp for school groups, providing a comfortable base from which to explore the sanctuary and nearby historic ruins like Nalatale, Bila, and Dhlo.
Jabulani is not just a destination; it's a living example of how tourism can be a force for good.

The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (Zimparks) is leveraging the platform of agricultural shows across the country to champion a powerful message that links conservation, tourism, and community development. Moving beyond the traditional scope of these exhibitions, Zimparks is transforming its stands into interactive hubs for awareness and inspiration, demonstrating that agricultural shows are not just for showcasing crops and livestock, but are also crucial spaces for promoting Zimbabwe's natural heritage.
For Zimparks, every exhibition stand is a strategic opportunity to engage the public. The authority aims to raise awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation and sustainable resource use, a mission critical for the nation's long-term environmental health. By participating in these shows, Zimparks is also actively promoting domestic tourism, encouraging local residents to explore the breathtaking experiences available within Zimbabwe's protected areas. This is a vital step in building a national appreciation for the country’s diverse natural landscapes and iconic wildlife.
Furthermore, the organization's presence at these events is focused on community engagement. They showcase how conservation efforts directly support local livelihoods through eco-tourism and cultural heritage preservation, fostering a symbiotic relationship between protected areas and the communities surrounding them.
The interactive exhibits, which have included live animal displays, virtual reality experiences, and informative materials, are designed to spark curiosity and inspire future generations to become active ambassadors for wildlife conservation. The mission, as stated by Zimparks, is clear: to link conservation with community support, tourism growth, and national pride. Their participation at agricultural shows is a testament to this holistic approach, ensuring that conservation remains a central part of Zimbabwe's national conversation.
HARARE'S RHINO RANGER RUN RAISES OVER
$16,000 FOR CONSERVATION
The Savé Valley Conservancy has expressed heartfelt gratitude to participants and sponsors of the recent Rhino Ranger Run, an event that successfully raised over US$16,000 for wildlife conservation efforts.
The annual run, which took place in Harare, was dedicated to the memory of Knowledge Mudzimureka, a dedicated rhino ranger who tragically died in the line of duty.
Knowledge Mudzimureka, a ranger with the Savé Valley Conservancy, passed away on June 8, 2025, from injuries sustained during a rhino attack.
His unwavering commitment to protecting Zimbabwe’s wildlife continues to inspire conservationists, and the run served as a powerful tribute to his sacrifice.
The funds raised will directly support anti-poaching initiatives, providing vital resources for the rangers who are on the front lines of wildlife protection every day.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of the community, the event generated just over US8,000. This amount was then matched dollar−for−dollar by the Scheinberg Relief Fund, a founding donor, effectively doubling the impact and raising the total to more than US16,000. This significant contribution will go directly toward the Savé Valley Conservancy's fundraising for the TUSK Wildlife Ranger Challenge.
The TUSK Wildlife Ranger Challenge, scheduled for September 20th at Hammond Ranch, is a global event celebrating the dedication and resilience of wildlife rangers. It brings together hundreds of rangers who will compete in a coordinated 21km race, carrying 22kg of kit to demonstrate the physical demands of their daily work.
The challenge showcases the unity, strength, and shared purpose of these brave men and women who protect Africa's biodiversity.
The Savé Valley Conservancy extended a special thank you to all the sponsors who made the Harare run a reality, including Tenga 4 Wena, Autoworld Zimbabwe, Orca Group, SATIB Zimbabwe, Green Vision Trust, Trail Blazers Zimbabwe, and many others.
Their support plays a crucial role in ensuring the continuation of anti-poaching efforts and the preservation of Zimbabwe's precious wildlife heritage for future generations.
