The increase in the number of foster homes allowed us to bring more cats into our foster program This means more lives were saved and more cats are now off the streets
We fostered 197 cats in 2022. The average time spent in our foster care went from 147 days in 2021 to 85 days in 2022.
By partnering with local vets for lower-cost services and doing more healthcare services in-home, we reduced our total cost per cat from $88.00 per cat in 2021 to $52.87 in 2022.
One of our biggest "wins" for 2022 was developing partnerships with the K-State Shelter Medicine Program (which provides surgical services) and the Emporia Animal Shelter (which allows us to use their space twice a month). These partnerships paved the way for us to officially begin making significant headway in spaying/neutering hundreds of stray cats yearly.
We also saw significant growth in our foster program. More foster homes meant we could say YES to taking in more sick, injured, and orphaned cats. In 2021, we provided foster care for 75 cats. In 2022, we cared for 197 cats!
We were honored to be picked as a recipient of the Emporia Middle School Walk-a-Thon. The students at EMS provided us with one of the largest checks we have received so far!
The Street Cats Club is proud to be an inclusive organization. In July, we marched in the Emporia Pride Parade with our banner stating that we support "strays, gays, and theys!"
Throughout 2022, we provided support for three local hoarding cases, taking in nearly 40 cats. We also worked with law enforcement and rescues throughout the state to find placement for the remaining cats.
Thanks to our partnership with Purralot Kitty Rescue, Inc., we were given space to showcase cats at Petsense. This allows the public to meet adoptable cats without waiting for an appointment. The Street Cats Club was thrilled to be picked to participate in the Emporia Community Foundation's Match Day in 2022. Thanks to this opportunity, we received over $13,000 to support our programs.
We began treatment for our first FIP cat and also updated our policies to foster both FIV+ and FeLV+ cats. The Street Cats Club is one of the only rescues in Kansas that accepts both FIV+ and FeLV+ cats.
We received a grant from C.A.R.E. to subsidize the cost of TNR procedures performed by local veterinarians. It is support like this that helps ensure we can continue our work!
