P HOTO SERIES : F UTURISM [ O ], A CCESIBILIDAD AND U RBAN D ESIGN Bilbao lleva ya varios años “tratando” de hacer mas accesible la ciudad a sus ciudadan+s, sobre todo, a aquell+s que tienen mayor dificultad (por edad, estado físico...) para desplazarse desde y hacia los barrios altos y el centro de una urbe “generosa” en dificultades orográficas. Y lo está haciendo del mismo modo con el que lleva años tratando de atraer turismo e inversores a la ciudad: a través de la construcción de nuevas, novedosas y futuristas infraestructuras; algunas de las cuales exceden incluso su propósito original, como es, simplemente, el de posibilitar, gracias a un ascensor o unas escaleras mecánicas, la movilidad de las personas.
Bilbao has been “working” for years in order to make the city more accesible to those citizens with physical handicaps or those who belong to the elderly, due mostly to the complicated terrain of a city divided between a “even” city centre and its numerous neighbourhoods on the hills. And it's doing so, in the same way that it's trying to attract tourists and investors: through the making of new, innovative and futurist infraestructures; some of which, exceed by far their original purpose, as it coud be, for instance, the installation of an external elevator or escalators to facilitate the transit of people. Welcome to the city of the Next design!
