7 WAYS TO KICKSTART YOUR NEW YEAR

The new year is finally here and for some of us out there it feels an awful lot like we blinked in January of 2021, and then suddenly, it’s January again.

Covid has made it really difficult for us to enjoy taking things slow, but we can still give it a try. Here’s 7 things you can do in the new year that might help you take control of 2022 and harness some positive energy that you can bring into the new year!”

1. Start A Business

Now it might seem intimidating, especially if you’re a teenager with not a penny to your name, but we promise that there’s still some small-scale options that can get you started in saving for your future, that doesn’t involve working at McDonalds! If you’re a creative person with the means and will to monetise your craft, whether that be simple resin works, digital art, or polymer clay, now’s the time to consider doing commissions.

If you like photography, have you ever considered taking photos for money, even as a beginner? Research, research, research! Take a look at your skills and hobbies. Even if you think it’s silly, you might just be able to turn your hobby into a side hustle to generate that bit of revenue!

2. Commit to Fitness

New Year, new me am I right? 2022 could be the year you finally reach those personal fitness goals. Whether that be switching up your diet so that you’re making healthier decisions, making the choice to buy that half-a-gallon water bottle to get better at staying hydrated, or by picking up those weights you bought at the start at the pandemic and working on getting into shape. Creating a schedule that works for you, as something you could realistically commit to daily is a good way to avoid burn out from your exercise routine.

3. Deep Clean Your Personal Space

New Year’s depression is real. Don’t carry that pent-up negative energy into the new year. Instead, open all your windows and sweep the negative vibes away. Dust and wipe your surround workspace and spray the air with whatever infused water mixture you want. Let the new year start with your personal space completely cleansed and refreshed.

4. Learn how to cook on a budget

Trust me, whether you’re planning on going backpacking around the world or are one of those unlucky souls stressing about living in a university dorm, you NEED to start learning how to cook nutritionally, or at least edible meals... on a budget of course! Start saving money in the new year and save yourself from eating nothing but pot noodles and McDonalds to the point where your body is screaming for nutrition.

5.Practice mindfulness It might seem silly, or a waste of time at first, but for the new year why not try out meditation? Meditation might be just what you need to reconnect with yourself and get some well-deserved self-care and “me time” in during 2022. Use meditation as a tool to take care of your mind, body and soul and take back control of your emotions.

6. Write A Bucket List

Do yourself a favour and write down all the things you want to do before you get so old that your back problems and crushing debt stop you. We’re talking anything from getting your first tattoo to traveling to all the countries in Southeast Asia within in a year. Now, split that long list into long-term goals and short-term goals. For example, buying a house would be under long-term goals, whilst learning new choreography would be under short-term goals. Now you have a fully organised bucket list to keep your goals orientated.

7.Stay Organised

Last but most definitely not least, something that should help you feel a little less like the year is passing you by in a flash would be purchasing a calendar or a diary to keep you organised. Any notetaking booklet or app with dates in it that will allow you to take note of your daily tasks ie, what you plan to do in a week, who you need to meet at 4 PM and whose birthday you need to remember to not forget this time. And maybe also give your life a sense of progression.

DESIGNERS’ ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

“Just seeing how the designs my group and I created came together was amazing, and also a little bit unreal. I’d never been a part of a large-scale project like a Magazine before, so working on this project with 21KDM was a unique experience that has been very exciting to be part of.”

-Rianne Ra

“I am continuously blown away by the kind of new and fulfilling experiences I’ve been given by my college. It’s been amazing working with my fellow students and with 21KDM on this magazine and watching our ideas come to life on a page like this. I don’t think I have been given this much freedom to work on a project this big before and I’m very thankful for the new skills I’ve gained on this journey.”

-E.A

-”I have experienced a lot, but working in the 21k media showed me there is a lot that can be done and I fully enjoyed the experience. I would say my knowledge about the industry has improved.”

-Victor M

“When I found out I couldn’t believe it, I was literally excited to have this experience. To be part of this huge project. I had never had the opportunity to work for a magazine, certainly I am learning a lot from this experience that college gave me.”
