WHAT AND WHO INSPIRES STUDENTS AT CONEL

We interviewed students at CONEL currently taking a range of creative industry courses, in the hopes that their answers might provide us with some insight on what really drives the local creative minds of our generation here in Tottenham. Aslo options are out there career wise, for people looking to get into the creative industry field, starting right at college.

“Why did you pick your course?”

“I’ve always wanted to have something in the creative field thatI fall on as alternative career. Animation and Gaming seemed like an interesting route to try. I work with kids, and that helped me to improve my creativity: from sketches at the request of a 4-year-old, to modelling for school project submissions, to spending sick days watching cartoons and anime’s introduced to me by 7-yearolds.” - L.A, Creative Media Student

“I have chosen my course because I needed to acquire information in a more specific category when it came to the subjects I was learning. This allows me to decide what I would like to do, knowing I have the knowledge to proceed with my career down a more specific path.” -T.F, Creative Media Student

“What is the next step for you in your academic or professional career?”

“I would like to go on to university and graduate, which will make me the 2nd person to have graduated in my immediate family. It will also mean I am highly skilled in an area of my choice and not something I was forced into or did because it felt like it was a more ‘sensible’ option.” - L.A, Creative Media Student “I would say the next step for me is to first finish the course I’m currently working on. After that, I will be able to decide how I would like to move forward and choose which route to take. I could either be a university student or take up an apprenticeship, traineeship etc. The idea of being an apprentice where you can earn while you learn sounds like a good start to adult life to me. However, universities encourage you to work independently, even if you’re not living in an accommodated place nearby. So, I’ll have to choose.” TF, Creative Media Student

“What do you think you want to do in the far future?”

“I see myself using my animation skills to provide a marketing/advertising business for others.” - L.A, Creative Media Student

“In the far future, I hope to have my own business of some kind so that I can have full control over when and where I work.” TF, Creative Media Student

“Who or what inspires you?”

“The kids that I work with in my job. They are very honest people, very specific and just cool and fun. A combination of all the things I would like myself and my business to be.” -L.A, Creative Media Student

“Hard-working people in general: people who can back up their talk with evidence of their hard work. That inspires me because you cannot get through life the easy way.” TF, Creative Media Student
