OUTREACH

PIT COUNT ST. VERONICA’S GUILD EPIPHANY DRIVE BEGINS THIS SUNDAY, JANUARY 7

VOLUNTEER FOR THE POINT-IN-TIME COUNT

It’s Epiphany, when the Wise Men came on their camels bringing gifts to the Christ Child. The women of St. Veronica’s Guild will be launching their fundraising Epiphany Drive in the Atrium with symbolic camels on Sunday mornings from January 7 to January 22. The drive, St. Veronica’s Wise Women will tell you, will help underwrite costs for the gifts of personal care items they bring to help our Atlanta neighbors served by Emmaus House, Crossroads Community Ministries, Holy Comforter Episcopal Church and Church of the Common Ground.

The Point-in-Time Count is an annual survey of people experiencing homelessness conducted each January in communities around the country. It is a key component in helping our neighbors receive the assistance they need to stay safe, warm, and healthy.

Donating is easy: •

At the guild’s table on Sundays, bring checks, cash or use your phone to access the QR code to donate online.

Or visit cathedralATL.org/toiletries to donate online now.

Thursday, January 25

The Point-in-Time Count depends on volunteers for its completion. This year, the Rev. Canon Julia Mitchener will take part in a daytime count on the morning of Thursday, January 25 with our partner agency Emmaus House. There are spots available for several parishioners to join in. If you’d like to learn more or volunteer, please contact the Rev. Canon Julia Mitchener, julia.mitchener@cathedralATL.org as soon as possible. For more information about the annual point-in-time count in Atlanta, visit partnersforhome.org

Your monetary donations, small or sizable, are carefully used to purchase and give soap, toothpaste, shampoo and more throughout the year so the four hard-working ministries can help the neighbors they serve. St. Veronica’s Guild, the four ministries, and the people they serve thank you.

ADULT Education THE CHOSEN WATCH PARTIES RESUME JANUARY 11 The Chosen! The Cathedral’s popular and deeply inspiring video discussion resumes this first Thursday in Epiphany season, January 11, 2024 at 5:30 p.m. in the Gould Room over potluck snacks. We will continue to view and reflect on this awesome series of scripturebased stories about Jesus and his first disciples that’s energizing viewers worldwide. Options to meet weekly will also be discussed; for now our room is reserved for the second Thursday of every month. We will view the newly released season 4 for our March meeting(s) and those following. Still timely for Epiphany season, our first meetings will screen the two nativity episodes of The Chosen (Pilot Episode: The Shepherd and Christmas Special Episode 2021: The Messenger) followed by selected favorite episodes from seasons 1-3. You may preview these and other episodes at watch.thechosen.tv, download The Chosen app, or search the internet for many reviews and interviews that highlight one of the greatest breakthroughs in Christian media this century. To learn more, contact The Rev. Dr. Thee Smith at tsmith@cathedralATL.org or 404-931-5062.

THE MINISTRY OF EUCHARISTIC VISITS Help us stay connected with one another by becoming a Eucharistic Visitor or receiving Eucharistic Visits! Eucharistic Visitors (known informally as EVs) are parishioners who take the consecrated sacrament from our Sunday morning Eucharists to individuals who cannot currently attend services in person. These trained lay ministers carry with them not only the Body of Christ but also Christ’s Body, the Church. They take with them our prayers for one another and our bonds that transcend space and time. This is an incredibly meaningful ministry for everyone involved.

STEWARDSHIP THANK YOU FOR YOUR 2023 FINANCIAL SUPPORT! Wow! Thanks to the thousands of parishioners and friends of the Cathedral who contributed to our life in ministry in 2023. We really were All Together as a community filled with grace, excellence, and hospitality. While it will take several weeks for us to finish reconciling the month of December, please be on the lookout for statements of contributions in the last week of January. You can always look at your online account for up-to-date information on your pledge and contributions at cathedralATL.tpsdb.com and consider starting the new year strong with a pledge for 2024: cathedralATL.org/pledge. Again, many thanks for all the ways you support our sacred life together. Best wishes for 2024!

Why might someone become a Eucharistic Visitor? This is an important and very meaningful ministry, not only for those being visited but also for the visitors. Eucharistic Visitors find that this ministry helps them put their faith into practice, develop their gifts for pastoral ministry, and deepen their own faith. Why might someone request a visit from an EV? Certainly some recipients of this ministry have been homebound for a long period. Others, though, might appreciate a visit from an EV because: •

They have a newborn or infant in their household and are sticking close to home for a while.

They are staying in because they (or others in their household) are immunocompromised and need to avoid large gatherings.

They have limited mobility for a while due to surgery, injury, or recent illness.

If you would like to learn more about becoming an Eucharistic Visitor or about receiving visits, please contact Hillary Jones, hjones@cathedralATL.org or 404-365-1038, or the Canon Cathy Zappa, czappa@cathedralATL.org.
