DIARY FOR WEEK COMMENCING 28th JUNE 2021

WEDNESDAY

On Monday Mrs Clarke and her four helpers gave a brilliant assembly for the start of Diversity and Inclusion week. They explained what diversity and inclusion mean for children at St Peter’s 2-8 and in particular to themselves. ‘Be proud to be you’ was Olivia M’s message to us all, as you can see in her picture above. We celebrated Diversity and Inclusion Week by wearing home clothes today and collecting donations for the charity Just Like Us. On Tuesday we hosted our Induction Day. I hope your children enjoyed spending time in their new class with their new teachers and teaching assistants. It was lovely to

welcome all of the new children and new parents into school and I hope you all enjoy the welcome presentations that are being sent this afternoon. Next week we are looking forward to Sports Day on Tuesday (Reception and Year 1 9am to 10.30am and Years 2 and 3 from 1.30pm to 3pm.) For those of you not attending, this event will be live streamed on Planet eStream and the log in details can be found in the covering note for the newsletter. On Wednesday the Conkers will host their PE Showcase from 9am to 9.40am. We are relieved to have made the decision to postpone Beach Day after today’s weather, and are very much looking forward to Thursday, when the children can come to school in home clothes ready for some seaside fun (on the sports pitch!)

TUESDAY

2 can swim, which in itself is an amazing achievement. The level of competition was great to observe– all in the best spirit, too. Well done to all the swimmers who tried so hard for their house. The Year Two gala was won by Micklegate and I must make a special mention to Olivia in Year Two who smashed the year Two 25 metre front crawl record by five seconds, with a time of 20.35 seconds. Astonishing! The Year Three gala was won by Monk; all the points will be added together from both galas and the swimming trophy will be awarded at our final assembly.

MONDAY

What an amazing week we have had at St Peter’s 2-8. On Monday Reception and Nursery had the opportunity to participate in a musical workshop with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. The children were taken on a journey by Cherry and Cecilia, two musicians form the orchestra. The workshop was sensational and all of the children thoroughly enjoyed the experience; it was brilliant to observe the children participating with Cherry and Cecilia. At the end of day, they said how impressed they were with the standard of musicality of our children. Thank you to the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment for visiting us from London and to Mrs Hayden for organising the day. Next week Year 1 children are participating in a Gamelan Workshop. Gamelan is the indigenous orchestra type of the islands of Java and Bali in Indonesia and the players who are attending school are based at York University. On Monday we have Billy Hickling visiting school to lead a workshop with Year Two and Year Three children. Billy was a founder member of the West End musical ‘Stomp’ and is now known as Trash Bang’ and has visited the school many times. It is going to be great fun for the children. This week we hosted our swimming galas. This year we held the Year Two swimming gala in the morning and the Year Three gala in the afternoon. The standard of swimming displayed was absolutely fabulous. All of our children in Year
