CoMPasS Registered Charity No: 1141329 I hope you all enjoyed the half term break; it was great to hear the children’s stories about the variety of different places they had travelled to whether in the UK or abroad. The children were excited to be back at school this week and continued their learning journeys exactly where they left off. This is the first time we have been able to work with the Musical Connections charity for three years and I know Mrs Hayden is looking forward to being able to take more of our children next academic year, it’s such a valuable experience for our children and really does make such a positive difference to the older generation living in our community. Musical Connections run participatory music sessions and projects for older, isolated, and vulnerable people in care and community settings across York. They also run a large programme of intergenerational events and activities, which bring together our beneficiaries with local school children. The children were a delight and spread much joy to all the residents at Ebor Care Home in York. Today the children from Year 2 visited The Deep in Hull, and I know they have had an amazing time. It really has been such a busy and exciting week in school!
Wednesday we were joined by one of the artists from the group, Rupert Oldridge, aka Bass6. The children were amazed at all the different sounds Rupert could create - helicopters; drinks pouring; police cars; not to mention being a one-man disco machine providing the drums, bass and tune to lots of different songs! The children learned how to make some different BeatBox sounds and then put them to the test in a BeatBox Battle! Huge thanks to Mrs Hayden for organising the visit.

What an eventful week it has been! I know the next four weeks are going to be just as busy. Below I have included dates of events for the remainder of the term. I have included as much detail as possible. Please do make sure you add these to your diaries and continue to read the Wednesday Reminder for any updates. On Monday we received an unannounced visit from the Environmental Health Department to inspect the kitchen and dining room at St Peter’s 2-8. I’m delighted to share with you that the Inspector was very happy with all areas and awarded the school . My thanks to our Head Chef, Stuart Norwood and the catering team and also Craig Robinson, Catering Manager 2-18, for ensuring that we meet all the regulated requirements in this area.

TUESDAY
In Acorns the children have been exploring travel, looking at where they might be going on holiday, and how they would get there. Conkers have been looking at the life cycle of a butterfly by watching the caterpillars turn into chrysalis and then hatch to form butterflies. The children then enjoyed releasing the butterflies into the wild. In Year 3 children have been cooking Singapore Noodles in the cookery room at St Peter’s 8-13 as they have travelled across Asia in their themed story, Phileas Fogg, Around the World in 80 Days. They have also started their drama workshops with Ms Veasey in the Drama studio, practising circus skills like Passepartout. They are looking forward to their workshop on China and Hong Kong with Mr Walker on Monday. Year 1 celebrated World Ocean Day on Wednesday and were inspired to create green screen films to educate people on the importance of sharks for the oceans and ecotourism. They made some very persuasive arguments, and I was impressed with the passion they demonstrated for this important area of conservation.
