The Olympic theme has inspired so much learning, curiosity and creativity over the past three weeks. It’s been wonderful to see the myriad of learning and fascination that this theme has led to. I hope that if you have been able to visit your child’s classroom at our Friday drop ins you’ve been able to hear all about theme from your child. From designing and creating clay trophies to producing Chatterpix with information about host cities and taking part in Olympic challenges and much more. The learning has been wonderful and varied covering all curriculum areas.
We are all very excited to have two athletes from Team GB joining us for a day before half term to meet the children and to put on assemblies and workshops. Look out for more news coming soon on the athletes who will be visiting us! We will also be having a further visit from a former Olympian who will share stories of their journey to the Olympics.
The theme is also fantastic for generating questions. I was chatting to some Year 3 pupils earlier today who wanted to know all about the journey of the Olympic torch and asked questions, such as I wonder how many countries it will travel through, or does it just stay in the host country? Does it go out in the rain? What happens to the torch after the Olympics? Who gets chosen to carry it and why? Does it travel through the day and night? Getting your children to ask questions and then finding the answers are a great way to be guided by your child’s fascinations!

Friday 3 May 2024
On Thursday 16th May as a whole school, we will be celebrating Wear it Green Day for Mental Health Awareness Week. There will be a bucket for donations in the office and these will go to the Yorkshire Children’s Charity and the Mental Health Foundation. In PSHE lessons we teach the children about the ways they can look after their mental health and wellbeing and how empowering it is to take steps to recognise understand our emotions and ways that we can help ourselves to reregulate such as the famous hot chocolate breathing which all of the children love to do, listening to music, being outside and talking to someone you trust.
It’s been great to finally see some sunshine this week and hopefully this will last for the weekend and the bank holiday on Monday. We look forward to welcoming the children back to school on Tuesday 7th
Have a lovely bank holiday weekend.
With best wishes,

School Council
It was lovely to have our first Council meeting this week with all the class representatives there and we had two special visitors. Mrs Clarke came to see us and hear about our mission to improve recycling and reusing of items in school. She saw Oliver's cake models made by reusing some old card and joined in our discussion on why these things are so important. Mrs Clarke even agreed that later in the term Council could run an assembly on ways to reduce everyone's impact on the
Our second visitor was Mr Swales who works in Estates and covers all three schools. He told us all about ways the school as a whole is trying to reduce it's impact on the environment. He told us where they have fitted new solar panels that help reduce the school's energy consumption and bills. Unfortunately the swimming pool roof will not support the weight of solar panels so the school is looking into ground source heating for the pool. He also told us some top tips on reducing heat waste that we can share with our class.
Well done Council, you listened carefully to Mr Swales and asked some very sensible questions.
There will be no Council meeting next week because of the Bank Holiday but we are hopefully visiting 13-18 Geography Department the following week.
SUMMER CAMPS 2024
As our wonderful Holiday Camp Manager, Miss Flockhart, is due to get married this summer, and a list of works taking place over the holidays, we have taken the decision not to run our own holiday camp in the summer of 2024.
We do however, want to ensure there is a programme of summer camps available for our parents and therefore will be piloting a new multi activity camp to be run by an external partner, United Education. We hope that this programme will complement our own camps in future years and offer an extended period of provision throughout the holiday period.
This camp will run for 3 weeks over the summer holidays, together with our usual Petersport programme, Cricket Camp and some of our external camps such as Creative Coliseum, All out Cricket, Sells Goalkeepers and Core Netball.
A full round up by week of activities we are offering this Summer can be found on the following page.
United Education
We are very pleased to be partnering with United Education, who offer a plethora of activities ranging from sports and arts to science experiments and more, ensuring that there’s something enticing for every camper. To find out more from them and for booking links, please see our dedicated page HERE.
