proudly received on behalf of his house. During the week I have read two interesting articles in the press. Today in The Times, there is a fascinating article ‘How to Teach a Toddler, the Scandi Way'. It suggests that Britain’s education system is obsessed with results at 16 and 18 and argues that the Preschool years (up to 6 years old) are more important for a child’s future. The article presents overwhelming scientific evidence across a range of countries. It also states that while genes play a role in determining future success, culture also matters too. You can read the article here. The second article follows from the previous one. ‘The Big Idea; is it time to stop talking about ‘Nature versus Nurture’. Latest Science shows that genes and the environment are too deeply entwined to pit them against each other. The article discusses the latest scientific research and concludes that there needs to be no ‘versus’ in the equation, we simply have the kind of nature that requires nurture, and they are utterly intertwined. Therefore, the culture in a school needs to be supportive, collaborative, loving and secure where resilience (Finnish call it ‘Sisu’ or grit) resourcefulness and reflectiveness are explicitly taught and practised to create the right type of environment for children to thrive. This is exactly the type of environment the staff at St Peter’s 2-8 aim to create for the children. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

their favourite characters from their favourite books, and it was great to see such a variety of amazing costumes, many from the theme books they are reading in their year groups. Well done to all the children and the staff, it’s always such a fun day and I appreciate you all for being great sports and taking part. The children also participated in the ‘I am a reader’ photo competition by getting their photo taken in the most unusual places they could find to read. We have had children on camels, in a chicken coop and on top of a tractor wheel to name a few. Huge thanks to all for participating, prizes will be given out in assembly on Monday. Thank you to Mrs Salisbury for organising this wonderful week of reading activities for the children. Ms Veasey, the drama teacher at St Peter’s led drama workshops this week and the children have thoroughly enjoyed these sessions. Ms Veasey will be working with St Peter’s 2-8 every week teaching drama, supporting our work with our theme stories that the children read in their class. This is a fantastic opportunity for the children, and we are delighted to have Ms Veasey at 2-8 on a regular basis. This morning we held our first in person celebration assembly of this term in the dining room. It was wonderful to gather all the children and staff together to share and celebrate the successes of the children across the school. Each member of staff gave their reasons for awarding their class Value Champion and Learning Superhero and Mrs Hayden awarded the Music Superheroes and Miss Flockhart the Sport Superheroes. It was also an opportunity to award the coveted House Point trophy to Micklegate for the week which Norman

DIARY FOR WEEK COMMENCING 7th MARCH 2022
MONDAY
I hope you all had a wonderful half term break. On Monday, it was lovely to hear about the exciting adventures the children had experienced during the week. I had the pleasure of supporting the St Peter’s 8-13 Ski Trip in Italy over half term. Several parents and children from 2-8 also joined the trip as they have older siblings at St Peter’s 8-13. The trip had been superbly organised by Mr Savage, and I must admit it was nice to enjoy some sunshine while we had fun on the slopes. The children have started this half term much in the same way as they ended the first half of the Easter term by being incredibly busy, purposeful, and productive with their learning. On Shrove Tuesday, children across the school created and cooked their very own pancakes, and at morning break we held our annual staff pancake race organised by Miss Flockhart. My thanks to the staff who took part and those who shouted words of encouragement along with the children from the sidelines. Congratulations to the winning team who won the race convincingly this year. Sadly I was not able to claim this victory, clearly I need to practice my flipping skills for next year! The children in Year 1 were fortunate to have a visitor this week who led a baking workshop, creating the most amazing ‘Cake Pops’ that were enjoyed by all. This was part of their themed story as the Year 1 children have landed in the ‘Land of Treats’. Thank you, Mrs Thomas, for your continued support, however, someone must have clearly eaten my cake pop as it failed to appear in my office?! Throughout this week we have been celebrating World Book Day. On Thursday children dressed as
