MUSICAL NOTES

We have had a really busy end to term this week. The children started the week rehearsing for the Christingle Service on Wednesday. The choir sang so beautifully in our chapel, I couldn’t have been prouder, they were a real credit to the school. Year 1 and Reception children had their own moment to shine too singing the Animals in the Stable, at the end of the song they were able to choose their own animal sound so we really did feel like we were in the stable! Earlier in the week we had a visit from the St Peter’s Barbershop groups. We always look forward to their visit at Christmas because they really give our young children something to aspire to when they are a little older. We rounded the week off with our House Singing competition, there has been much excitement around school with the children all desperately trying to find out the songs from each house! There could only be one winner though and this year Micklegate lifted the trophy! Well done to everyone involved! We finished our final assembly with the 12 Days of Christmas, now a firm 2-8 tradition at Christmas! The children enjoyed standing up with their classmates to sing their line of the song, it really got us all into the Christmas spirit. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas holiday! Mrs Hayden.

SCHOOL COUNCIL Council wanted to reinforce the School Council motto of… ”Be kind.”

We painted Kindness Rocks and displayed them on the school steps to make people smile and remind them to always be kind. Well done Council, you have done a great job this term!

REQUEST FOR READERS

We are looking for a parent or grandparent who would be willing to come along one day a week to hear readers in Reception. If you think you can help, please speak to a member of the Reception team.

Many thanks

YEAR 1

YEAR 2

Our gallop through the history of York has ended in style with a discovery of the Victorian Christmas! We have been as busy as Santa’s elves over the last 2 weeks, making oranges with cloves, candles for our tree, gingerbread houses, robin Christmas cards and, this week, making crackers! Did you know that crackers were a Victorian invention? We have printed our own paper, written jokes, made hats, made chocolate buttons with sprinkles and put them altogether to make top class, luxury crackers! Through the work this term we have understood what the word ‘chronological’ means in history and we know LOADS about each era! We took on a mystery maths challenge, looking for naughty elves and have enjoyed sending and receiving Christmas cards with our friends. We have had a fantastic time on Activity Day, creating Christmas crafts and eating a yummy Christmas lunchthank you to the kitchen staff. It has all been very exciting and we are VERY ready (says Mrs Hall…) for our holiday now. See you all in January, Year 2, when we have a new, exciting theme for you all. Happy Christmas from all of the Year 2 teachers and teaching assistants- ho, ho, ho!

Year 2 will need their Forest School kit on Monday 10th Januarywhatever the weather! Please could you send it in on that day. Thank you!

It has been a truly wonderful end to the term in Year Three! Alongside rehearsing for our Christingle and Young Voices concert next year, we have been making Christmas crafts, baking and getting into the Christmas spirit with or Christmas Activity day. This term we have delved into the world of Narnia and channelled our learning through the mysterious and wonderful imagination of C.S.Lewis. Amongst other things, we have explored the topic of ice, created wire sculptures, baked treats, learnt about WW2, been on school trips to Murton Park and the theatre, made Anderson Shelters, use different media

to create various pieces of art and written creatively, using our imaginations and our text, The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe, as inspiration. We are immensely proud of all of the children for their hard work, resilience and enthusiasm towards their learning this term. We hope everyone has an exciting, magical Christmas and would like to wish you all a healthy and happy 2022. We are already looking forward to coming back to school in January to see what our theme for next term will be!
