ST PETER’S 8-13 NEWSLETTER I’m sure many of you were distracted by the incredible sunset on Tuesday when you were picking up your children. This photo from Mrs Bateson at St Peter’s 2-8 gives a bit of a flavour of how amazing it was.

Our Seven Key Values are Friendship, Trust, Wisdom, Compassion, Endurance, Humility, Hope Collaboration and Empathy... We hosted the Aesthetica Short Film screenings for our J4 pupils this week, where they were pushed outside their comfort zones as they watched a wide variety of short films of different genres. It was very thought provoking and will be followed up in their English lessons.

Congratulations to our junior chess team who were playing in the York Interschool tournament last weekend and came second. Well done to our U11 and U13 girls’ hockey teams who both won the County round of the England Hockey

On Wednesday we hosted the ISSP Year 7 Breakthrough Event, where 6 of our J4 pupils took part in a debate to decide on the greatest historical discovery of all time. Our dance group have been rehearsing hard ahead of Saturday’s Yorkshire Schools Dance Festival, held at the University of York. They performed in our J1-3 assembly this morning and I am sure they will have lots of fun tomorrow. Thank you to those of you who have already completed the Inclusion Labs survey looking at how St Peter’s 2-18 can be as inclusive a community as possible for everyone. The more data we can gather the better so please do try and find the time to complete it. All of the J3-5 pupils are also completing an online survey which follows on the back of a workshop which explores some of the themes.

In2Hockey national competition, being unbeaten in all of their matches. They have been working hard on both their technical skills and game play and it is wonderful to see it pay off.

The J2s hosted the annual Mr Men and Little Miss Conference! This was a workshop with a drama for writing specialist, which kickstarted their English project looking at creating their own characters and then writing a book about them.

It is lovely to see all the pupils embracing today’s Odd Socks and Odd Shoes day, as Anti-Bullying week draws to a close. The theme was “one kind word” and that formed the basis of my assembly this morning, along with PSHE lessons this week. The whole school video based on the theme ‘one kind word’ can be viewed here. This follows hot on the heels of author Tom Palmer visiting on Friday and talking about his life as an author and how he goes about writing books. J2 were also taking part in a drumming workshop, which was great (if noisy) fun!

J2 and J3 children competed in the national Primary Maths Challenge and we had ten of our J5s taking part in the National Cyber Security Centre’s CyberFirst Girls Competition, along with 10 3rd Form pupils, last Friday. There is a new online competition that any of the girls in J5 can enter if they wish; Mr Harvey has further details.
