“Eternal Lord, our beginning and our end: bring us with the whole creation to your glory, hidden through past ages and made known in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”

Message from the Principal

This week you may have seen that the NEU teachers union has voted for strike action totalling four days; 1 February, 1 March, 15 and 16 March 2023. We will be making contingency plans for the education of students which will be shared with parents and carers as soon as possible. We have included in this newsletter some information about the possible effects of strike action and answers to frequently asked questions. There has been lots of great things happening at the Academy but the weather has prevented some educational visits from taking place. I would like to apologise for the disappointment and disruption this has caused our students and families. principal@stpetersacademy.org.uk

Quality of Education

At St Peter’s we believe that a broad and balanced curriculum with a strong academic core is a right for all pupils. We seek to encourage pupils to explore subjects of interest around their in-school learning and to enhance their curriculum experience through enrichment.

Student attendance: Award from FFT

This week we received an attendance award from FFT for the 2022/23 autumn term. St Peter’s Collegiate Academy has been recognised in the top 10% of similar secondary schools in England. Thank you to families for prioritising attendance ensuring the students attend the Academy. It would be fantastic if we could maintain this during the spring and summer terms.

Y11 students participate in employer interviews

Our Y11 students were provided with an opportunity this week to participate in ‘employer interviews’ with local business leaders. The event was a huge success with interviewers commenting on the students’ professionalism, use of language, presentation and personal organisation Students were exemplary and seemed to have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It is clear we have future lawyers, forensic scientists, RAF pilots, vets, scientists and Oxbridge applicants attending the Academy.

Sixth form students participate in The National Skills Challenge

All students in Year 12 took part in The National Skills Challenge. This is an annual fixture on the Academy calendar providing students with a fantastic opportunity to work as part of a team. Together they are required to practice and apply a range of skills including; communication, problem solving and creative thinking. This year they were required to respond to a brief set by Thorpe Park.

Y12 science students attend University

of Wolverhampton

Our Y12 science students attended the SciExplore event at the University of Wolverhampton. This provided them with an opportunity to attend a higher education institution, experiencing the facilities and different teaching strategies they can expect from university level education. All students were fantastic ambassadors of the Academy and have spoken positively of the event.
