St Peter’s Collegiate Academy

Part of the Three Spires Trust

Dear God,
Thank you for the many blessings you share with us. We are thankful for the service of those people who look after us and our pets: the NHS, firemen and women and vets. We give thanks for King Charles and ask that he governs with wisdom. We are sorry for the sins we have committed. Please forgive us and guide us to serve you and worship you.
Amen.
by Khalid, Abigail, Elizah and Ria in Yr. 7Message from the Principal
The summer exam series has now begun and will continue until the end of June 2023. Revision resources have been shared with GCSE pupils and preparations are being made to support their preparation. Further information regarding study leave will be shared with parents/ carers over the next week. Although this can be a stressful time for our pupils there are multiple sources of support they can rely on at the academy. I would encourage pupils to discuss any concerns or emerging issues with form tutors, class teachers, heads of year and the inclusion team.
I would also like to take this opportunity to introduce a new initiative to put children’s rights at the heart of schools in the UK. The Rights Respecting Award is accredited by UNICEF to create safe and inspiring places to learn, where children are respected, their talents are nurtured and they are able to thrive. Unicef’s Respecting Schools Award embeds these values in daily school life and gives children the best chance to lead happy, healthy lives and to be responsible, active citizens. There are three stages to the Rights Respecting Schools Award. Its transformative and rigorous approach means the journey to the highest stage can take up to four years.
Together young people and the school community learn about children’s rights, putting them into practice every day. The Award is not just about what children do but also, importantly, what adults do. To achieve this award, we are going to be working through a sequence of agreed steps with UNICEF to achieve bronze accreditation. Our aspiration is to achieve the silver mark over the next year, with the support of the pupils and yourselves I am confident we can make the necessary changes to consistently place our pupils at the centre of everything we do.
Further information will be emailed to all parents/ carers as a letter. We would like to establish a rights respecting culture at the Academy using the guidance and resources of UNICEF. This will include rights respecting councils of pupils, staff and parents/ carers. If you would like to be involved in this critical work please follow the guidance on the letter once it has been issued. https://www.unicef.org.uk/rights-respecting-schools/

Quality of Education
At St Peter’s we believe that a broad and balanced curriculum with a strong academic core is a right for all pupils. We seek to encourage pupils to explore subjects of interest around their in-school learning and to enhance their curriculum experience through enrichment.

GCSE & A Level Exams
By the time you receive the next newsletter the exam season will be underway. To support our Yr 11 students in their revision they have all been emailed a template revision timetable pre-populated with all of the GCSE exams. We would encourage all parents and carers to download the timetable, discuss and plan it together with your child. Students should log into their school emails and they will see the email with the timetable attached from the Principal.
Choose the correct tab (at the bottom of the sheet) for separate science or combined science - make sure you use the correct one.
To use the plan you will need to do the following:
1. Use your exam timetable to delete any exams you will not be sitting
2. Check the time and length of the exams
3. Add the contingency dates (in blue) to your calendar. You must be available for these dates.
4. Schedule revision sessions for each evening. There are three slots, 1 hour, 30 minutes and 15 minutes. You can adjust this for your own needs.
5. Amend any of the scheduled revision slots. These are intended to give you an idea of how to space your revision and prepare over an extended period of time.
To make scheduling a revision session easier, make the 'formula' bar at the top of the screen larger so that you can see all three slots as per the screenshot below. Use the down arrow to move up and down the list.

Academy Day Times September 2023
In the last newsletter before Easter we drew your attention to the changing times of the Academy day from September this year. The changes are a consequence of a Department for Education (DFE) review of time spent in schools. Following this review the DFE introduced a minimum expectation of the length of a school week of at least 32.5 hours. To meet this expectation at St Peter’s we need to increase the length of our school day by 20 minutes. Following an exploration of a number of options and consultation with other local schools and transport companies we have agreed the times below for the new Academy day.
If you wish to read more regarding the reasons for these changes please follow the link below. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/length-of-the-school-week-minimum-expectation
Year 7, 8 & 9 (Early Lunch & Break)
Year 10, 11 & Sixth Form (Late Lunch & Break)
Behaviour and attitudes/ personal development
We encourage our pupils to set high expectations for themselves, developing a range of effective interpersonal skills they will need to be successful in their chosen career. St Peter’s seeks to provide a range of opportunities for all pupils to pursue new interests, develop their skills and to experience different cultural events.

Achievement Assemblies
On Friday 21st April the school hosted its first mid year achievement assemblies for Years 7 - Year 12. The purpose of the assemblies was to reward and recognise our students and celebrate their individual achievements.

We look forward to Year 13 receiving their awards during the leavers’ service in May.
Staff nominated students for a range of awards, both department and pastoral.
Pastoral awards included: Highest Achievement Points, Attendance, Most Improved Student, Displaying the Schools Ethos/Values, Out of School Achievement, Most Outstanding Form Group and HOY award. Students received an Amazon voucher and certificate. Each award was accompanied by a citation which highlighted the specific achievement of the student.
Departments discussed and awarded students who displayed an excellent attitude to learning and had made exceptional progress over the first half of the academic year. Students were given a certificate and a gold star badge to wear with pride on their uniform.
Award programme certificates were also handed out, along with certificates for the Maths Challenge.
There was a super atmosphere during the assemblies and it was great to celebrate such a wide range of success, both academic and personal. Well done once again to all the award recipients, you deserved it!!!
