DINING OUT

Ceviche Opens on Beach Drive

Let’s Meat

Ceviche Tapas Bar & Restaurant has opened in new digs at 332 Beach Drive in the former Moon Under Water location. The new restaurant has a completely refreshed modern interior, with an outdoor patio and a menu featuring both popular favorites and updated items. New are a carving station and a temperature-controlled wine locker with room for some 750 bottles. Former Sea Salt sommelier Jackie Eash is now at the helm as beverage manager overseeing an extensive array of fine wines with a nod, of course, to Spain. Kudos to Ceviche for being selected one of TripAdvisor’s 2021 Travelers’ Choice Award restaurants.

St. Pete Meat & Provisions, a new specialty grocery by Chef David Benstock at Il Ritorno, is bringing fresh meat, eggs, cheese and charcuterie to 449 Central Avenue. Partnering with local farms committed to practicing sustainably with no herbicides or pesticides and the humane treatment of animals, the whole animal butchery offers cuts from beef, poultry, pork, house-made sausages, bison, lamb and veal. You can also find a selection of cheese and charcuterie, farm fresh eggs, dressings, sauces, marinades, fresh pasta, seasonings, rubs, oils, honey, jams, and hot sauces.

Food Hall Redux

With little fanfare but much regret, the management team behind the new 22 South Food Hall announced July 21 on social media that downtown St.

Pete’s only food hall operation was closing immediately. The unexpected death of partner Vincent Jackson in February was a financial and supportive blow that partners from the Callaloo Group could not withstand. Since opening in April, the food hall inside the historic Manhattan Casino in the Deuces neighborhood had widespread support as an incubator for culinary startups and entrepreneurs. When word spread of its closing, however, community leaders quickly responded. Within weeks, a consortium of new partners calling themselves Urban Collective joined in to help formulate a plan to re-open the establishment. Details were limited at the time this issue went to print, but it appears 22 South has been saved. Check their Facebook page to keep updated on a new opening date.
