Enter a mysterious indoor forest where every tree has a story to tell.
Experience traditional tales from around the world and trace the ancient roots of story, passed down from one generation to the next. Light up each tree and listen to its story. Enjoy live storytelling in the clearing, spot the animals hiding amongst the trees and see if you can pull the sword from the stone.
City of Stories
Recommended for ages 5+
Fly through a thousand years of Oxford’s story history.
Enjoy a 25-minute film experience aboard our Story Craft which will transport you through the stories associated with Oxford including Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, C.S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia, J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings and Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials.
The Enchanted Library
for all ages
Slip between the shelves of a magical library and lose yourself in a good story.
Discover eight immersive story worlds from the wardrobe into Narnia to the rabbit hole into Wonderland. Browse the shelves to find story treasures from Aunty Clanger to Paddington Bear or sit at the writing desk used by author C.S. Lewis. From favourite tales such as Winnie-the-Pooh to modern classics like Noughts and Crosses, you’ll find plenty of stories in which to immerse yourself…
Small Worlds
Recommended for ages 5 and under
Welcome to a patchwork land of picture books, nursery rhymes and traditional tales for the very young.
Enjoy a 1-hour storytelling and play session in our beautiful Small Worlds space featuring favourite story characters from Elmer the Patchwork Elephant to Biscuit Bear. Discover a different story theme and activities each month.
The Treasure Chamber Here Be Dragons!

Let Cressida Cowell, the author of the bestselling How To Train Your Dragon series, guide you through the ancient vaults of dragon lore, designed by Tina and Amy Bicat. Try your hand at dragon racing, learn to make origami dragon claws, add your own dragon to our Bestiary Book and get up close to a pickled dragon in a jar!
Give your appetite a happy ending by visiting our independent café offering a range of delicious freshly-prepared and locallysourced dishes to suit all ages and appetites.
Gluten-free and vegan options are always available and our child-friendly café also offers highchairs, unisex baby changing facilities, toys and games and bottlewarming on request.
Take some story fun home with you and pop into our independent gift and bookshop. From greetings cards, souvenirs, toys and dressing-up, to an array of books for all ages, we can help you find the perfect story-themed gift.
The Woodshed Theatre
