A co-educational school for children 2-13 years

Thank you for reading our prospectus. I hope that through its pages we manage to convey the heart of who we are.

St Michael’s is a place where children come running in each morning and don’t want to leave at the end of the day! It is a school where each unique individual is known, valued and loved.

We are proud of our academic success and the many achievements of our pupils. Whilst we expect the best from each of them, there is grace for mistakes and we encourage our children to give things a try. This is an essential part of the learning and growing process, helping them to develop character and skills vital for the next step of their journey and indeed, the rest of their lives.

As a school we are ambitious in our desire to give each pupil the very best opportunities possible.

We are fortunate to have the most fantastic facilities and a stunning setting, but it is the people that really matter.

We are proud of our school and I would be delighted to welcome you and give you the opportunity to meet some of the extraordinary children and staff who make St Michael’s such a special place to grow up.

Situated in the spectacular Sevenoaks countryside, our 100 acre site is an important part of the children’s learning and growth. Our environment develops an inquiring mind and a desire to discover and explore the joy and wonder of our natural world.

Our children’s love of nature begins in Pre-School with visits to our magical Fairy Tree where they gather to sing nursery rhymes. The Pre-Prep journey also includes weekly explorations of our Forest School where they develop their outdoor skills. In Prep, the adventure continues with opportunities to investigate our local ecosystem.

Our Wildlife Pond and woodland areas are the perfect landscape for educational activities including topography, bug hunts and creative writing.

St Michael’s love of sport envelops all children from Nursery to Year 8; it is here they learn about winning and losing graciously, teamwork and the delight of fresh air on their faces.

Our rolling landscape is the road that develops our children into mindful and knowledgeable citizens who will care for our environment throughout their lives.

St Michael’s is driven by a passionate belief in the value and power of learning: for children, for teachers, for parents and everyone who comes into contact with us.

We are innovative in our approach to teaching and are always looking for ways to improve our curriculum and facilities to make them more vibrant, inspiring and in keeping with our ever-changing world. An example is our St Michael’s Diploma for Years 7 and 8, which offers a skills-based curriculum. This approach combines scholarship preparation with elements of the GCSE syllabuses so our pupils are fully prepared for their education beyond St Michael’s.

We strongly believe that in order to teach our children about the importance of learning, we must first model this ourselves. Our staff undergo regular professional development and we host various workshops for parents on topics including online safety and mental health first aid for children.

Moreover, we enable our pupils to teach each other by hosting assemblies and even running lunchtime clubs on topics they are enthusiastic about.

make a positive

Our children are helped to understand themselves as individuals: their feelings and emotions, how they can affect others and to celebrate the diversity of the world in which we live.

Our school motto: perseverance, wisdom and gratitude encapsulates our ethos of striving for success and using our skills to make a difference. These values are instilled in our children throughout their St Michael’s journey through regular charity days, fundraising initiatives and community sport and music events.

Pupil voice is extremely valuable to us: our School Council is an important avenue for igniting change. From fun runs to wildlife awareness days, our pupils have fantastic ideas for supporting our wider community.

We strongly believe that with all they have learnt at St Michael’s, our children will contribute to and make a difference to the world as global citizens.

The St Michael’s journey doesn’t end when our children leave us, we expect them to carry what they have learnt into the world:

St Michael’s is over 150 years old and many children have gone from the school knowing they have a responsibility to lead change. Generations of St Michael’s pupils are making their impact in the world and will continue to do so for many years to come.

Our children know that they will always belong and remain a valued part of the St Michael’s community. We are a family and they will always be welcomed back to where their journey began. Our Old Michaelians always enjoy returning to their school and sharing the next chapter of their story.
