WELCOME TO ST. MARY’S

In 1881, God gave a small group of miners a mission to bring to these mountains the world’s greatest treasure: the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, the Eucharist, and the Faith and Charity that flow from Him.

Today, that mission has spread from the streets of Old Town Park City, to the meadows of White Pine Canyon, to the Heber Valley and beyond. St. Mary’s seeks to evangelize, catechize, give back in Charity, and enrich the community through the Catholic Faith and its intellectual, artistic, and cultural traditions. To bring all the treasure of Jesus Christ, for the salvation of souls, and the Greater Glory of God!

ST. MARY’S CHARITY IN 2024

How You Brought Christ to Those In Need

UBI CARITAS et amor, Deus ibi est. “Where there is charity and love, there is God.” These are the opening words of a very ancient hymn of the Church sung on Holy Thursday with the washing of feet. And they are the theme, the motto, the St. Mary’s Church family took up in 2024.

YOU PROVIDED

THE DIRECTOR OF CHARITY

Last year, thanks to your prayers, service, and support, St. Mary’s was blessed with the hire of our first-ever full-time Director of Charity Maria Villar to expand the parish’s charitable ministries!

YOU

ENSURED

A HOLISTIC AND COLLABORATIVE

SANCTUARY FOR THE MOST VULNERABLE

Since its beginning in 1881, St. Mary’s has always played an important role in providing for the charitable needs of the greater community. And during the lockdown and pandemic you again allowed the parish to step into immediate action, providing hundreds of thousands of dollars in housing and financial assistance, food, clothes, diapers, toys, car seats, cribs, and tutoring.

In 2024, building on that tradition and recent pandemic experiences, St. Mary’s sought to be the sanctuary of charity in the Wasatch Back to holistically and collaboratively address and answer the challenges faced by the most vulnerable in our high cost-of-living community.

YOU SECURED

SAFE, STABLE, & LOVING HOMES FOR FAMILIES MOST IN NEED

That holistic and collaborative approach begins with the principle of “housing-first.” St. Mary’s firm conviction, based on our experience serving thousands of families, is that the flourishing of those we assist begins by helping them secure a safe, stable, loving home. In this high cost-ofliving community there is a huge unfulfilled need for housing assistance. And, through you, St. Mary’s uniquely fulfills that need. St. Mary's community partners look to our Church Family for help with providing housing to those in need. Community partners come to St. Mary’s because they know this parish gets the job done. They know St. Mary's charitably, compassionately, and effectively helps those in need secure a home.

CHARITY 0% OVERHEAD

Every Gift You Make to St. Mary’s Charity Fund Goes Directly to Those in Need

Your generosity makes the greatest possible difference. 100% of your gifts to St. Mary’s Charity Fund go directly to providing homes, food, clothing, health and educational/legal support, care, and more to local families in need. It also supports other charitable needs at the discretion of the pastor.

Every dollar you donate plays a vital role in uplifting lives, fostering stability, offering genuine care, and renewing hope among our neighbors. Your contributions empower us to make a real difference while enabling our pastor to address emergent community needs as they arise. Thank you for your continued support in making these essential services possible.

Assistance is available to anyone in the community in need, regardless of religious affiliation.

THE NUMBERS

395

During the past year, 395 families reached out to St. Mary’s in moments of deep vulnerability. As a sanctuary of Charity, through our holistic and collaborative approach, we ensured each family received the specific care they needed. Sometimes that meant direct financial assistance from St. Mary’s, other times collaborating with our trusted community partners who could offer specialized resources, and still with others it meant walking with them in friendship and offering pastoral care.

70.1%

277 Households

About 70% of our applications—277 households—received direct financial assistance, with each household receiving an average of $524 during their time of crisis.

St. Mary’s could immediately step into action to financially assist 277 households. While some required help with housing or food, others needed support for healthcare, education, or legal matters. This range of needs underscores the importance of a comprehensive approach to community assistance, ensuring that each person’s unique circumstances are addressed.

GABRIEL PROJECT DOMESTIC VICTIMS

The St. Mary’s Gabriel Project, delivered $28,800 in aid to mothers in need during just the first half of the fiscal year, independent of our regular Charity Fund.

St. Mary’s further helped 50 victims of domestic violence, many of whom are mothers with young children. These courageous individuals, found a lifeline in our ministry despite dangerous and daunting challenges.

Real People . . .

Being a single mother in Park City presents unique challenges, especially with the rising cost of living. Pilar, a hardworking mother of five, faced an overwhelming situation trying to balance work, childcare, and providing for her family, all without a car. Her strength and resilience to keep going for her children are truly inspiring. Through your support of St. Mary’s Charity Fund in 2024, Pilar and her family avoided eviction and received resources to regain stability and hope for the future.

Mid Fiscal Year Financial Summary and Position – 12/31/24

Through the continued generosity of you, our parishioners and visitors, our year-to-date revenues of $1,243,300 are slightly ahead of our mid-year projections. Parish activity has shown Mass attendance continues to exceed the prior year by 4%. New parish registrations are on the rise at an annual rate of 137 versus 111 at this time last year. Baptisms continue to exceed 100 annually and we celebrated 50 wedding’s and quinceañera’s this past year. There continues to be great need in our community for charitable assistance for families and single mothers. St Mary’s has responded to over 400 requests in the past year and has financially supported 114 households this fiscal year through December at an average rate of $564 per household.

Our year-to-date expenses are under budget by $161,000 with delayed spending for some building maintenance expenditures and timing of expenses. The Gabriel Project ministry, serving young and expectant mothers, has provided $32,500 of assistance for the first half of this fiscal year. Overall, we continue to manage expenses well within budgeted levels.

The parish established an endowment with the Catholic Foundation of Utah as a reserve for the future, larger maintenance projects. The parish has contributed $145,500 along with parishioner’s investment of $100,000 to date. In addition to this longer-term investment, in partnership with My Catholic Will, we are facilitating those who are interested in leaving a lasting legacy with a bequest.

The parish’s financial position remains stable, thanks in large part to consistent participation in online giving and several large donations. We thank our parishioners and visitors for their continued generous support of the parish and its ministries.

Respectfully submitted by Sandy Foley, Parish Administrator, and the Parish Finance Council

If you too are interested in helping ensure the future of St. Mary’s by leaving a bequest in your will, please contact Justin Hibbard directly at jhibbard@stmarysparkcity.com or (410-353-1022).
