BURIAL ANTHEMS
Thomas Morley (1557-1602)
I am the resurrection and the life, saith the Lord: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.
I know that my Redeemer liveth, and that He shall stand at the latter day upon the earth. And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God, whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another.
We brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away. Blessed be the Name of the Lord.
All remain standing as the Officiant and Choir sing
THE PRECES
William Byrd (1540-1623)
V. O Lord, open thou our lips.
R. And our mouth shall show forth thy praise.
V. O God, make speed to save us.
R. O Lord, make haste to help us.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Praise ye the Lord.
All are seated.
THE PSALMODY
PSALM 116
Anglican chant (Herbert Howells)
I love the Lord, because he has heard the voice of my supplication, * because he has inclined his ear to me whenever I called upon him. The cords of death entangled me; the grip of the grave took hold of me; * I came to grief and sorrow.
Then I called upon the Name of the Lord: * “O Lord, I pray you, save my life.” Gracious is the Lord and righteous; * our God is full of compassion.
The Lord watches over the innocent; * I was brought very low, and he helped me. Turn again to your rest, O my soul, * for the Lord has treated you well.
For you have rescued my life from death, * my eyes from tears, and my feet from stumbling. I will walk in the presence of the Lord * in the land of the living.
I believed, even when I said, “I have been brought very low.” * In my distress I said, “No one can be trusted.” How shall I repay the Lord * for all the good things he has done for me?
I will lift up the cup of salvation * and call upon the Name of the Lord. I will fulfill my vows to the Lord * in the presence of all his people.
Precious in the sight of the Lord * is the death of his servants.
O Lord, I am your servant; *
I am your servant and the child of your handmaid; you have freed me from my bonds.
I will offer you the sacrifice of thanksgiving * and call upon the Name of the Lord. I will fulfill my vows to the Lord * in the presence of all his people,
In the courts of the Lord’s house, * in the midst of you, O Jerusalem. Hallelujah!
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
THE FIRST READING Job 19:21-27
Have pity on me, have pity on me, O you my friends, for the hand of God has touched me! Why do you, like God, pursue me, never satisfied with my flesh? O that my words were written down! O that they were inscribed in a book! O that with an iron pen and with lead they were engraved on a rock forever! For I know that my Redeemer lives, and that at the last he will stand upon the earth; and after my skin has been thus destroyed, then in my flesh I shall see God, whom I shall see on my side, and my eyes shall behold, and not another. My heart faints within me!
Reader The Word of the Lord. People Thanks be to God. All stand.
MAGNIFICAT Short Service
William Byrd
My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior. For he hath regarded the lowliness of his handmaiden. For behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty hath magnified me, and holy is his Name. And his mercy is on them that fear him throughout all generations. He hath showed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He hath put down the mighty from their seat, and hath exalted the humble and meek. He hath filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he hath sent empty away. He remembering his mercy hath holpen his servant Israel, as he promised to our forefathers, Abraham and his seed for ever. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
The People are seated.
But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about those who have died, so that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have died. For this we declare to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will by no means precede those who have died. For the Lord himself, with a cry of command, with the archangel’s call and with the sound of God’s trumpet, will descend from heaven, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up in the clouds together with them to meet the Lord in the air; and so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage one another with these words.

NUNC DIMITTIS Short Service
William Byrd
Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word; For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, which thou hast prepared before the face of all people, To be a light to lighten the Gentiles, and to be the glory of thy people Israel. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
THE APOSTLES’ CREED
Chanted by all, remaining standing.
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
THE PRAYERS
Officiant The Lord be with you.
Choir And with thy spirit. Officiant Let us pray.
The People kneel
Choir Lord have mercy upon us. Christ have mercy upon us. Lord have mercy upon us.
The short form of the Lord’s Prayer is sung by the Choir.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Then follow these Suffrages, sung by the Officiant and Choir
V. O Lord, show thy mercy upon us;
R. And grant us thy salvation.
V. O Lord, save the State.
R. And mercifully hear us when we call upon thee.
V. Endue thy ministers with righteousness.
R. And make thy chosen people joyful.
V. O Lord, save thy people.
R. And bless thine inheritance.
V. Give peace in our time, O Lord.
R. Because there is none other that fighteth for us, but only thou, O God.
V. O God, make clean our hearts within us.
R. And take not thy Holy Spirit from us.
The Officiant sings the following Collects; the choir sings “Amen.”
THE COLLECTS
O God, the Maker and Redeemer of all believers: Grant to the faithful departed the unsearchable benefits of the passion of thy Son; that on the day of his appearing they may be manifested as thy children; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Almighty God, whose loving hand hath given us all that we possess: Grant us grace that we may honor thee with our substance, and, remembering the account which we must one day give, may be faithful stewards of thy bounty, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or weep this night, and give thine angels charge over those who sleep. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for thy love’s sake. Amen.
All are seated.
ANTHEM
Thomas Tomkins (1572-1656)
I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors.
HOMILY The Reverend Victoria Lewis
INTERCESSIONS
All standing.
Officiant What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor human heart conceived, God hath prepared for those who love him.
People God of all consolation, in thy unending love and mercy thou turnest the darkness of death into the dawn of new life.
Officiant Show compassion to thy people in their sorrow. Be thou our refuge and strength to lift us from the darkness of grief to the peace and light of thy presence.
People Thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ by dying for us, conquered death, and by rising again, restored life.
Officiant May we then go forward eagerly to meet him, and after our life on earth be reunited with our brothers and sisters where every tear will be wiped away. Let us now remember before God those who have died in the hope of the resurrection.
The congregation remains standing as the names of those buried from this parish since November 1, 2023, are read aloud.

The reading concludes with the following Collect:
O God, whose days are without end, and whose mercies cannot be numbered: Make us, we beseech thee, deeply sensible of the shortness and uncertainty of life; and let thy Holy Spirit lead us in holiness and righteousness all our days; that, when we shall have served thee in our generation, we may be gathered to our ancestors, having the testimony of a good conscience; in the communion of the Catholic Church; in the confidence of a certain faith; in the comfort of a reasonable, religious, and holy hope; in favor with you our God; and in perfect charity with the world. All of which we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
THE GENERAL THANKSGIVING
Said by all.
Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we thine unworthy servants do give thee most humble and hearty thanks for all thy goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all men. We bless thee for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for thine inestimable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ, for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. And, we beseech thee, give us that due sense of all thy mercies, that our hearts may be unfeignedly thankful; and that we show forth thy praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up our selves to thy service, and by walking before thee in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with thee and the Holy Ghost, be all honor and glory, world without end. Amen.
HYMN 358 ∙ Russia
Sung by all, standing.
The Officiant prays:
Father of all, we pray to thee for all those whom we love but see no longer. Grant to them eternal rest. Let light perpetual shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
THE DISMISSAL
Officiant Let us bless the Lord. People Thanks be to God.
The Officiant says The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost, be with us all evermore. Amen.
