Silence. Openness. Rest. Tranquility. These are all words that can describe someone who is beginning to taste the reality of God’s presence within. Centering Prayer offers an opportunity to lay aside the unrelenting tumult and troubles from our everyday lives in order to reach what T. S. Eliot called “the still point of the turning world.”

faith formation
Catechumenate: Adult Formation
October - April
The Formation Program at St. Luke’s is designed to prepare adult parishioners for Baptism, Confirmation, Reception, or the Reaffirmation of Baptismal Vows at the Easter Vigil. It is a way for people to find their way “home” at St. Luke’s, whether from another tradition, no tradition, or a life-time with the Episcopal Church.
The Discovery Series is open to anyone interested in the subject matter, and the latter part is for those who have completed the Discovery Series and wish to proceed as candidates to be presented to the Bishop at the Easter Vigil. All candidates are paired with a sponsor who will introduce them more deeply to the life and ministries of St. Luke’s Church. Candidates are expected to attend all four sessions of the Discovery Series and to participate in all subsequent meetings of the program. Full participation in the liturgies of Holy Week is strongly encouraged. Please contact Fr. Ancona for more information.

In the late 16th century, the chronicles of historians and travelers in Italy provide images of a fabulous musical world inhabited by women – singers, players and composers. The concert will include motets by Aleotti and Palestrina’s massive Missa Confitebor tibi.

Kings of the Earth and Queen of Heaven: Music of Pierre de Manchicourt
February 13, 2025 at 7:30 pm, Lecture at 6:30 pm
Choir of St. Luke in the Fields
Largely unknown until recently, the music of Pierre de Manchicourt is at last finding its way onto the early music concert stage. Manchicourt, the first director of Philip II’s chapel of Flemish singers, was the last great composer writing in the older style of Franco-Flemish polyphony, standing between Josquin and Lassus. Manchicourt employs full, rich textures to produce music that is sonorous and uniquely radiant and transcendent. The concert will feature the six-voice Missa Reges Terra and the Easter motet Regina caeli, along with other motets composed for King Phillip’s chapel.
Handel in Italy: Masterpieces of Latin Sacred Music
April 3, 2025 at 7:30 pm, Lecture at 6:30 pm
Choir of St. Luke in the Fields with Baroque in the Fields orchestra
In 1706, Handel travelled to Italy, where he remained for almost four years. During his time there, he absorbed Italian musical styles and worked with prominent musicians. While in Rome, Handel encountered Arcangelo Corelli, who had a profound impact on Handel’s instrumental music. Corelli’s Concerto Grosso No. 7 in D Major will also be featured.
