Donor Impact Report

“Because of Saint Louise House, and the knowledge, intelligence, humor and kindness of all the women I worked with over the years, I learned so much about myself and was able to watch my kids grow and flourish without the grim specter of constant danger, homelessness, or starvation hovering over them. They were able to see their mom succeed in a competitive tech industry here in Austin because I didn’t have to worry about scraping by just to meet basic needs.”

- Saint Louise House Mother

At Saint Louise House, we’re not just providing shelter; we’re pioneering a transformative approach to family stability. Our mission goes beyond temporary fixes – we empower mother-led families with the time, resources, and support they need to build a lasting future. Unlike short-term solutions, our program offers up to four years of comprehensive support, tailored to each family’s unique needs and aspirations.

This year, your unwavering support has been a driving force behind our success. With your help, we don’t just offer a roof; we offer a partnership in transformation. Families are not just finding a place to stay; they are embarking on a journey toward self-sufficiency and long-term success. Our wraparound services, flexible funds, and commitment to individual goals ensure that each family has the tools to thrive on their own terms.

The need for our services is as urgent as ever. Many families are still facing significant challenges, and we remain dedicated to expanding our impact. We are focused on providing the time and support necessary for families to achieve true stability and upward mobility.

Without our program, the consequences are stark. Families may remain trapped in cycles of toxic stress, children could enter the foster care system, and generations may continue to struggle with housing and economic instability. Your involvement helps us prevent these outcomes and ensures that families receive the support they need to break these cycles and build a brighter future.

As we look ahead, we are excited to further enhance our programs and strengthen our community partnerships. Your continued support plays a key role in enabling us to provide a nurturing environment where children can achieve lasting stability and self-sufficiency.

Thank you for being an essential part of this transformative journey. Your support is not just a gift—it is a lifeline that enables us to continue this critical work. I look forward to all that we will accomplish together in the year to come.

A Collaborative Journey to Hope and Stability

OUR APPROACH

Housing

Saint Louise House provides safe, stable housing in South Austin. Rents are subsidized so that families start out paying only $50 a month for the first year. With this stable housing, families can confidently take steps toward their goals.

Partnership

Every mother finds a partner on her journey toward stability through weekly meetings with a staff social worker who supports her in identifying her own strengths and learning to leverage her strengths to achieve her goals. Empowerment Partners connect families to resources for education and employment and building skills such as parenting, financial literacy, and more.

Wraparound Services

Saint Louise House provides mothers and children highly individualized support for meeting basic needs, accessing community resources, and achieving their goals. Services include life skills workshops, children’s activities supporting social and emotional development, and direct support such as a food pantry, bus passes and flexible funds.

“They saw a woman in legitimate need with two young children in an untenable situation and they took action, they made a beautiful space for us, giving us the security, time, and the resources to get back on track. There is no doubt in my mind that this organization, and all the people who worked tirelessly toward this end, saved us.”

About Saint Louise House

Saint Louise House is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the success of women and their children moving from homelessness to healthy independent lives.

Our proven program provides stable housing and wraparound services with highly-individualized support that fosters education, financial literacy, strong family relationships and healthy living, leading to a lifetime of self-sufficiency.

Women and children experiencing homelessness often find themselves doubled up, living out of their cars, or worse, making their struggles less visible but no less urgent. Despite lacking a fixed, regular nighttime residence as defined by the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, these families struggle to find adequate support. Many single mothers face the dual challenge of being ineligible for traditional homeless services while fearing the loss of their children to the child welfare system.

Saint Louise House serves as a critical safety net by empowering women and their children to overcome homelessness for generations to come. Mothers and children receive trauma informed support allowing them to heal from past hard experiences and move forward together. As mothers work toward financial stability, their children benefit from a secure, nurturing environment that supports their growth, providing a solid foundation for long term success.

Over our 24 years of service, we have witnessed the profound impact our initiatives have on the lives of these families, helping them achieve stability and self-sufficiency.

“We had nothing but two small duffel bags. When I opened the door and saw it fully furnished, I cried. My kids were so excited to have their own beds.”

Developing Resilience

Empowering the Next Generation: The Charlene Thompson Resiliency Fund

At Saint Louise House, we know that building a secure future means investing in the next generation. The Charlene Thompson Resiliency Fund supports programming that empowers teens in our community, offering them opportunities to grow into confident leaders.

Through leadership training workshops, mentorship, and hands-on learning experiences, our teens are developing the skills they need to succeed. This year, the fund enabled enriching field trips where they explored future career options, participated in outdoor teambuilding activities, and learned about financial literacy. These experiences not only inspire our youth to set and achieve goals but also equip them with the tools they need to overcome life’s challenges.

At Saint Louise House, we believe that resilience is built through support and opportunity. The Charlene Thompson Resiliency Fund ensures that our teens are not only dreaming of brighter futures but also taking tangible steps toward achieving them.

H-E-B: “Helping Here” at Saint Louise House

H-E-B’s “Helping Here” spirit aligns perfectly with the mission of Saint Louise House. Both of our organizations share a commitment to building stronger, healthier communities by supporting those who need it most. This year, H-E-B’s generous contributions went beyond grocery essentials – they played a key role in providing stability and dignity to the mothers and children in our program.

Through their ongoing support, H-E-B has helped Saint Louise House provide safe, affordable housing for families while also offering programs that foster independence and growth. From supporting educational initiatives to ensuring families have the resources they need for everyday life, H-E-B’s partnership strengthens our ability to empower families to thrive. Together, we are both helping here and building brighter futures.

Amplifying Impact for Families at Saint Louise House

Amplify Credit Union’s mission to empower communities closely mirrors Saint Louise House’s dedication to providing long-term stability for families. Through our shared vision, Amplify Credit Union has become a vital partner in increasing the impact of our work.

Through this partnership, Amplify Credit Union has helped us expand crucial programs, including our financial literacy initiatives, which empower the mothers in our program to build brighter, more secure futures. We’ve been able to offer financial literacy workshops that cover essential topics like budgeting, saving, credit management, and debt reduction.

As part of our 2-gen approach, these programs equip both mothers and teen residents with the tools and confidence to manage their finances effectively, laying the groundwork for long-term stability and independence. Amplify Credit Union’s commitment to amplifying the impact of nonprofits across the city has been instrumental in helping us provide these critical services. Together, we’re not only offering safe housing but also empowering families with the knowledge they need to take control of their financial futures.

At Saint Louise House, we believe that lasting change starts with financial empowerment, and Amplify Credit Union has been a key partner in making this possible. Through their support, we’re helping families gain the skills to thrive well beyond their time with us.

Moving Forward

A NEW LIFE BEYOND SAINT LOUISE HOUSE

“I am most excited about seeing the rest of my goals come to fruition. I have a good job now and I have worked toward building my credit. I am leaving Saint Louise House sooner than I thought I would, which is good too. I would like to become a homeowner one day and pick up another trade to make enough money and live life without stressing. I also want to go back to school.”

What moms believe make their child special:

“Being herself.”

“His sense of humor, how caring he is and how big his heart is.”

“She is my angel. My inspiration.”

“His big heart and his intelligence. He has a lot of love to give.”

“She’s smart, creative, artistic.” What children want to be when they grow up:

“I learned my own worth. I learned how to allow growth to take place within myself.”

Volunteers are the backbone of Saint Louise House, and their contributions are vital to the success of our programs. While they may not always interact directly with the families, their impact is felt profoundly through a variety of essential support activities.

From organizing special community events to donating birthday cakes and meals, volunteers help make moments of joy and celebration possible. Their efforts ensure that every student receives a backpack filled with necessary supplies, and they respond swiftly to last-minute requests for essential items. Volunteers also play a crucial role in stocking our pantry and keeping our campus clean and welcoming.

These acts of generosity and dedication help create a supportive environment where families can focus on rebuilding their lives. The collective efforts of our volunteers bring stability and comfort to those we serve, embodying the spirit of community that is at the heart of Saint Louise House.

Saint Louise House is more than just a stable home for families. It is an entire community working together to create a nurturing environment that fosters hope and stability.

“Being raised by a single mom, I know firsthand how tough things can be. Volunteering at Saint Louise House means so much to me because I get to support mothers who are doing everything they can for their kids. It’s amazing to be part of a mission that helps families find hope and build a better future together.

Investing in Long-Term Stability: A Collaborative Commitment to Families

At Saint Louise House, our commitment to long-term family stability is fueled by the deep, collaborative investments from our partners. Central to this mission are the transformative contributions from the St. David’s Foundation and Travis County, which collectively reinforce our unique approach to uplifting families.

The St. David’s Foundation has made a critical multi-year investment in our model, recognizing the necessity of deep, foundational investment—not just from local government, but from our entire community. Their support empowers us to expand our capacity to serve families in crisis, enabling Saint Louise House to fill a crucial gap in the existing homeless response system.

In parallel, Travis County has also committed to supporting our mission with significant annual investments over multiple years. Their partnership highlights the importance of recognizing alternative, proven approaches to family upliftment. Together, the St. David’s Foundation and Travis County affirm our commitment to creating a lasting impact in the lives of families experiencing instability.

As the need for family support continues to grow, we must expand our capacity to serve even more families in crisis. To achieve this, we require readiness and a steadfast commitment to invest in sustainable solutions for family homelessness. These collaborative investments not only strengthen our

organization but also signify a shared vision for fostering long-term stability. We remain dedicated to addressing the ongoing challenges of family homelessness and are grateful for the support of our partners as we work toward a future where all families can thrive in stability and security.

“Saint Louise House holds a special place in my heart and I hope to give back one day to this amazing organization. To the donors, know that your donations truly do make an impact. I am one of those kids whose life was able to be changed. I am sure that a lot more of the kids who live in Saint Louise will soon come to truly understand how fortunate they are to be living in Saint Louise.”
