Farrakhan: ‘Ferguson ignited it all’ Struggle in STL takes center stage at Million Man March By Kenya Vaughn Of The St. Louis American (Washington, D.C.) – “Twenty years ago Barack Obama was in the audience. Today he’s in the White House,” said Dr. Ben Chavis, CEO of the National Newspaper Publishers Association and one of the organizers of the first Million Man March in 1995.

Young was involved in a group that was starting a private equity fund, but Fowler’s conversation with Young soon turned into a history lesson. “He explained that the Civil Rights Movement was n “Before Dr. not just social and Martin Luther geared towards King Jr.’s removing social assassination, barriers, but that it the next major was an economic movement as well,” phase of the said Fowler, who movement was is now a managing geared toward director of BAML Capital Access economic Funds. “Before Dr. justice.” Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination, – Craig Fowler, the next major phase managing of the movement director of BAML was geared toward Capital Access economic justice.” Funds At that meeting, Young gave Fowler a copy of his book, “An Easy Burden: The Civil Rights Movement and the Transformation of America.” In the front of the book, he wrote Fowler this personal message that has stuck with him throughout his career: “The struggle continues. NGA releases Environmental Impact Study Choice of North St. Louis would keep earnings tax in city By Rebecca Rivas Of The St. Louis American North St. Louis city appears to be the standout contender in the competition to build the new $1.6 billion National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) West facility, according to a federal Draft Environmental Impact Statement released on Friday, October 9. The North City location, which is a 100-acre site adjacent to the old Pruitt-Igoe housing project, would have “major benefits from the change in visual character at the site,” according to the statement. That was a bit more of a bump than given to the other three locations

vying for the federal agency’s attention – including the old Chrysler plant in Fenton, the Met Life facility in South St. Louis County and an area adjacent to Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. Cited as a positive, choosing the North City site would allow the City of St. Louis – the region’s economic engine – to retain $2.19 million in earnings tax annually by keeping NGA’s 3,100 jobs in the city. While not singled out as such – the city’s retention of $2.19 million annually gets no more space in the report than the loss of some weed species if the site is moved to North City – this is easily the largest economic See NGA, A7

The 100-acre North St. Louis site being considered for NGA West is situated just north of downtown St. Louis at the intersection of Jefferson and Cass avenues, comprised of predominantly vacant land with some residential, light industrial and commercial use. It has a 70 percent vacancy rate, and the city has designated the site a blighted community.
