TURNERS HILL PARISH NEWS OCTOBER 2019 PUBLISHED BY ST LEONARD’S CHURCH Edition Number 390

HARVEST-TIME CELEBRATIONS With all being safely gathered in from fields and gardens, it’s the month for our village’s harvest-time celebrations. They start with the School Harvest Service on Thursday October 10. St Leonard’s service of Thanksgiving for Harvest, followed by Harvest Lunch is on Sunday October 13. Donations will go to Crawley Open House for helping the homeless. Then, there’s the Turners Hill Free Church Harvest Party – a celebration for children with plenty of fun and games - on Thursday October 31. Harvesting – of prized blooms –also features in our centre-page interview with Richard Ramsey of local enterprise Withypitts Dahlias. Alongside harvest celebrations comes the Twinning Association’s special Wine Tasting Evening with wine expert Charles Metcalfe, on Friday October 25 at The Ark. Down at South of England Showground, the Ardingly October Charity Fair takes place on Tuesday October 15. See inside for details of these and many other activities. A particularly significant event this month will be opening of a Garden of Remembrance on the Village Green in preparation for our traditional period of remembrance to honour the fallen of two world wars and other conflicts. Otherwise, against the background of current political events and their impending implications, a timely ‘Prayer for Our Country’ is offered in ‘From the Vicarage.’

DON’T FORGET - CLOCKS GO BACK THIS MONTH A REMINDER THAT BRITISH SUMMER TIME IS COMING TO AN END AND CLOCKS GO BACK ONE HOUR TO GREENWICH MEAN TIME (GMT) OVERNIGHT OCTOBER 26/27.
