Induction

All parents and students are invited to attend our Orientation Morning on Monday 2 September. The purpose of this event is to allow new families to become more familiar with the School whilst meeting members of staff who will be working primarily with the children, during the school year about to begin. Representatives from our Parents’ Association will be present at this event to welcome new families to St. Julian’s.

Please refer to the schedule below for the different year groups:

8.20 All Year 12 Students only

8.45 Arrival Secondary

All students and parents joining us in 5º, 6º, 7º, 8º, 9º anos and Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11

All students and parents joining us in 1º, 2º, 3º, 4º anos and Reception, Years 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.

10. 30 Nursery welcoming session Family “Meet and Greet”

Families with more than one child joining the school will be contacted individually by our Admissions team to confirm their schedule for this morning.

During this event, families will also have the opportunity to:

Purchase, collect and order school uniform items directly from the Uniform Suppliers (D’Util Child and Togs), who will be on-site;

Purchase second-hand uniform items from the Parents’ Association

Take a photograph to be included on the Family ID card

Meet  the After School clubs’ providers and the programmes they have to offer

Meet our support teams to clarify any questions pertaining to school life:

Please note that students do not have to wear school uniform on this day. All children should come in casual clothes on Induction Day.

First day of school for all students except Nursery children who will have a staggered start (allowing a gradual introduction on different dates between 9 and 11 September). Families will be contacted individually by our Admissions team with details on this matter within the next few weeks and no later than 5th July.

Holding accurate and up to date student data and contacts readily available contributes towards keeping the school and our community safe. For this reason, we would be most grateful if you could please ensure that you have completed the “Contact Details and Documentation” form available on our Admissions platform, OpenApply.

We will send you a checklist reminder in order to guide you in completing this very important procedure, if you have not already done so.

Invoicing

From Monday, 3 June, you will receive the invoice for the Autumn Term 2024, which will need to be settled within a 30 day period. For more information regarding payments, please read our Fee Payment Policy.

School Communication Resources

The school offers multiple digital resources to provide families with the most updated and relevant information about school events.

School Newsletters

The school publishes a newsletter called “The Lighthouse,” which is released weekly on Thursdays. It offers a notice board on upcoming events and in-depth articles, photo galleries, and links to upcoming school events. The newsletter is shared with all Parents registered in our database.

Classlist

To help bring our families together, our Parent Association offers a networking app called Classlist. You will receive an invitation to join the community.

SchoolsBuddy

SchoolsBuddy is an online platform where parents can register and access all after school clubs and activities which are part of our Wider Life Programme (WLP).

SchoolsBuddy is currently used for the following purposes:

Receiving notifications about the WLP

Providing online parent consent for events and signing up for after-school clubs

Viewing a diary of confirmed events and adding them to your personal calendar

Obtaining venue information and directions

School Website

The St. Julian’s Website, www.stjulians.com serves as a communication platform for prospective parents, existing parents, and students. It provides the latest news and updates about the school.

Parent Portal

Our Parent Portal is our main tool of communication with all our families. You will receive the login instructions in August.

The Parent Portal is also used for Re-enrolment and updating contact information, via specific forms.

School Life:

Timetables

All students start school at the same time, at 8.20am. Please note, however, that there are different leaving times for different year groups, between 3.00 pm to 4.00 pm from Monday to Thursday.

On Fridays, students leave after lunchtime, between 1.00 pm to 2.00 pm as the afternoon is reserved for staff professional development. A detailed timetable will be provided in the parent handbook.

Extracurricular Activities

The Wider Life Programme offers diverse activities beyond academics to support holistic student development. The 2024-25 programme will be published at the start of the academic year, and registration will open for all students through the SchoolsBuddy Platform in August.

Please take a moment to review our 2023-24 Wider Life Programme (WLP) to see a selection of the after-school clubs and activities that have been previously available.

School Life:

Uniform

Uniform requirements as well as where to purchase items can be found in our Uniform Policy. A second-hand uniform shop, which is run by our Parents’ Association, is also available on our campus.

Our Lost and Found area is located near the West Gate and is managed by the Parents’ Association. Parents can access this area with the assistance of our security team.

Transportation

We operate a door-todoor bus service for the main metropolitan areas of Cascais and Lisbon. For more information and registration please visit our website.

Food

Lunch Arrangements

Students can have school lunches or bring a packed lunch from home. Please note that there is no kitchen service available to heat up food from home.

Lunch Offer

Both dining halls offer a self-service lunch. The menu varies every week and is published on the Parent Portal. The Soft Rock Café serves a selection of hot and cold items.

There are two options for school lunches:

Reserve and pre-pay lunch termly, for a permanent pass to the school’s dining venues; parents should contact the Accounts office: accounts@ stjulians.com

Choose a pay-as-you-go system (top-up) for a flexible lunch plan. In this case, parents will need to charge (top-up) the student’s ID cards and pay for each meal individually.

The Student ID cards can be charged either online or at the school Accounts office.

Dietary Restrictions

All food venues have vegetarian options. Lactose-free and glutenfree foods are also offered and labelled at the buffet area for students to identify on selection. Parents should provide the school with information about any dietary restrictions children may have.

School Life:

Snacks

Students in Primary are not required to bring a morning snack from home, as fruit is provided. We encourage Parents to send an afternoon snack, especially if the students have after school activities. Please ensure that any food your child may bring from home is nut free as we have students with severe allergies.

In Secondary, students can purchase snacks from the Soft Rock Café during morning break and after school.

Parent Café, Terrace

Our Parent Café on the terrace is open every morning from 8.00 to 9.30 and is available to all parents on the terrace.

ID Cards

The school operates an ID card system, colour coded for different type of access:

Green: Students and staff Orange: Families Yellow: Visitors Purple: Wider Life Programme staff

Student ID Cards will be issued to all new students.

They are used for:

Access to school: Mandatory for students from Year 6 to Year 13

Meals: Mandatory for all students in Year 2 and up (below Year 6, cards can be kept at school)

Printing: For Secondary-aged students

Family ID Cards

All adults entering the campus must carry a visible ID card, at all times. Family members will be issued a Family ID card.

School Life:

Primary:

Primary students are supplied with all stationery needed including a reading record (Reception - Year 2/1º Ano) and/or a planner (Year 3/2º Ano - Year 6/5º Ano). They also receive a house water bottle, a house t-shirt, a library bag and a book bag when they join St. Julian’s.

New students will receive an ID card on induction day which will remain in their classrooms. ID cards are used as a payment method for lunch.

The school will also provide access to an iPad which remains in the classrooms.

On the first day of school your child will receive a hard copy of their timetable and should bring: a hat, a healthy after school snack and a lunch bag (for packed lunch).

Secondary:

On the first day of school, students will have access to their timetable through the iSams Student Portal and should bring: a backpack, a pencil case, and a lunch bag (for packed lunch).

New students will receive an ID card on induction day which they are required to bring to school on a daily basis. ID cards are used as a payment method for food, printing facilities and access to the school.

Students in Year 10, Year 11, Year 12 and Year 13 are supported through our Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) programme. They are expected to bring their own device to school on a regular basis.

Drop Off and Pick Up

Main Gate

The Main Gate is the main entry and exit point for the Secondary students. It is open from 7.45am and is monitored by Security throughout the day.

West Gate

The West Gate is the entry and exit point for the Primary students. It is open between 7:45 and 8:30 and 3:00 and 6:00 and is monitored by Security throughout the day.

Drop-Off

We have a morning Drop-off system in the car park for our Primary section students, from Nursery through to Year 5, and from 1º to 4º ano.

Pick-Up

Parents are welcome to pick up Primary children of all year groups inside the school grounds through the West Gate at the end of the school day and before the start of the Wider Life Activities.

Supervision for younger siblings is provided for those waiting for older siblings to finish their school day.

Parent Association (PACT)

Membership in PACT (Parents’ Association Combined with Teachers) is offered to all parents. PACT’s role is to support parents and students by liaising with the school’s leadership teams. They also manage the Classlist app to help bring our families together.

Our Neighbourhood

Location:

Carcavelos is a coastal town located in the Lisbon District. It’s known for its proximity to Lisbon and beautiful beaches, located 650m from our school. Transportation: Carcavelos has good transportation links, including trains and buses, making it easy to commute to nearby areas like Lisbon or Cascais. You will find the Carcavelos train station at a distance of 600 metres from our Main Gate.

Amenities:

In the vicinity, you will find supermarkets, pharmacies, healthcare facilities, restaurants, and recreational areas.
