Induction

All parents and students are invited to attend our Induction Morning on Monday 1 September. The purpose of this event is to allow new families to become more familiar with the School and meet key members of staff. Representatives from our Parents Association will also be present at this event to welcome new families to St. Julian’s.

Induction morning for all new students and parents from Nursery to Year 12.

Please refer to the schedule below for the different year groups:

First day of school for all students except Nursery children who will have a staggered start (allowing a gradual introduction on different dates between 8 and 10 September). Families will be contacted individually by our Admissions team with details on this matter within the next few weeks and no later than 5 July.

The St. Julian’s Website, www.st julians.com serves as a communication platform for prospective parents, existing parents, and students.

SJS Portal App

The new SJS Portal App is designed to empower our school community through streamlined communication and direct access to information. This centralised platform provides a single hub for all essential school-to-home communication.

Timetables

All students start school at the same time, at 8.20am. Please note, however, that there are between 3.00pm to 4.00pm from Monday to Thursday.

On Fridays, students leave between 1.00pm to 2.00pm as the afternoon is reserved for staff professional learning. A detailed timetable will be provided in the parent handbook.

Uniform

Uniform requirements as well as where to purchase items can be found in our Uniform Policy.

A second-hand uniform shop, which is run by our Parents Association, is also available on our campus. Our Lost and Found area is located near the West Gate and is managed by the Parents Association. Parents can access this area with the assistance of our security team.

Transportation

We operate a door-todoor bus service for the main metropolitan areas of Cascais and Lisbon. For more information and registration please visit our website.

Food

Lunch Arrangements

Students can have school lunch from home. Please note service available to heat up food from home.

There are two options for school lunches:

Reserve and pre-pay lunch termly, for a permanent pass to the school’s dining venues; parents should contact the accounts@ stjulians.com

Choose a pay-as-you-go

lunch plan. In this case, parents will need to charge (top-up) the student’s ID cards and pay for each meal individually

The Student ID cards can be charged either online or at the school Finance office.

Lunch Offer a self-service lunch. The menu varies every on the SJS Portal App. The selection of hot and cold items.

Dietar y Restrictions

All food venues have vegetarian options. Lactose-free and glutenarea for students to identify on selection.

Parents should provide the school with information about any dietary restrictions children may have through the medical information form on the SJS Portal App.

School Life:

Snacks

Students in Pre-Prep do not need to bring any snacks to school, as both morning and afternoon snacks are provided. From Year 1 onwards, a healthy morning snack is provided by the school. However, students may bring a morning and/or afternoon snack from home if they wish.

We encourage parents to send an afternoon snack, particularly for students who attend after-school activities.

Parent Café, Terrace .

Our Parent Café on the terrace is open every morning from 8.00 to 9.00am and is available to all parents.

ID Cards

The school operates an ID card system, colour coded Green: Orange: Families Yellow: Visitors Purple: Wider Life

Student ID Cards will be issued to all new students.

They are used for:

Access to school:

Mandatory for students from Year 6/5º Ano to Year 13

Meals:

Mandatory for all students in Year 2/1º Ano and up (below Year 6/5º Ano, cards will be kept at school)

Printing: For Secondary-aged students

Family ID Cards

All adults entering the campus must carry a visible ID card, at all times. Family members will be issued a Family ID card.

School Life:

Prep School:

Primary pupils are supplied with all stationery needed including a reading record ( Reception - Year 2/1ºAno) and a planner (Year 3/2º Ano - Year 6/5º Ano). They also receive a house water bottle, a house t-shirt, and a book bag when they join St. Julian’s.

New pupils will receive an ID card on induction day which will remain in their classrooms except for Year 6 who will take them home. ID cards are used as a payment method for lunch.

The school will also provide access to an iPad which remains in the classrooms.

What to Bring on the First Day

Secondary:

students will have access to their timetable through the Student Portal and should bring: a backpack, a pencil case, and a lunch bag

Students in Year 10/9º Ano, Year 11, Year 12 and Year 13 are supported through our Bring Your Own Device ( BYOD) programme. They are expected to bring their own device to school on a daily basis.

New students will receive an ID card on induction day which they are required to bring to school on a daily basis. ID cards are used as a payment method for food, printing facilities and access to the school.

Parents Association ( PA)

Main Gate

The Main Gate is the main entry and exit point for the Secondary students. It is open from 7.45am and is monitored by Security throughout the day.

West Gate

The West Gate is the entry and exit point for the Primary pupils. It is open between 7.45 and 8.30am and 3.00 and 6.00pm and is monitored by Security throughout the day.

Drop-Off

Primary section students, from Nursery through to Year 5, and from 1º to 4º ano.

Pick-Up

up Primary children of all year groups inside the school grounds through the West Gate at the end of the school day and before the start of the Wider Life Activities.

Supervision for younger siblings is provided for those waiting for older siblings to

The PA’s role is to support parents and students by liaising with the school’s leadership teams.
