In the national competition, our U16 team competed extremely well and it was only on penalties that they missed the chance to reach the Tier 1 National Finals. They will have another chance next season to push for National Finals and we wish them well. The senior girls showed a real desire to end their St John’s hockey careers on a high. Abbie Tait and Phoebe McCutcheon helped lead the 1st XI on a competitive cup run and the 2nd, 3rd and 4th XI teams all finished the season with a strong Saturday record. Well done to all the pupils involved in hockey this year and I look forward to the coming season.
NETBALL

St John’s Netball Club saw a short but successful 201920 season, competing in 141 fixtures across the term and a half that we were able to play. Starting with the national cups and Surrey tournaments in the Autumn Term, it was great to see the U12, U13, U16 and 1st VII get through to the finals day. We were proud to see our teams finishing in the top five schools in Surrey. Moving into the Spring Term, the first block against Sevenoaks set the tone for what would be an excellent half term, with some outstanding wins from the U15C, 4th VII and the 1st VII. In subsequent weeks, our netballers competed in fixtures against Lingfield, St George’s, Brighton College, Bradfield College and Reigate Grammar. It was possible to see real progress and improvement made by all the girls through this short term, which resulted in a winning tally of over 50%. It was also particularly rewarding to see high participation levels throughout the term, with the club consistently putting out 29 teams across all age groups. Special mention must go to the U12D who had an unbeaten season, closely followed by the U14D and the U14B. Well done to all on such a brilliant season and I look forward to seeing the success and enjoyment return in January 2021.
