William Marshall, Director of Hockey
Hockey went from strength to strength this year, with several teams exceeding expectations and ending the season with great building blocks going into the 2020-21 season. As a school, we continue to develop good hockey players; all age groups are producing county players and several girls are now competing at performance centre level, close to going on to compete for England.

Boys’ hockey also went well this season, with four teams competing against a strong Saturday fixture list. All the teams worked hard to progress and develop their skill level, which will aid them going into future season. The 1st XI, led by Ed Timpson, had a good cup run and a successful Saturday record.
Lower School hockey was again successful and the U12 girls did extremely well in the Surrey Cup, while the U13s continued their progress in cup competitions. All the girls are making great progress with their individual development.
A highlight of the season was the U14A girls being the first St John’s hockey team to make the National Finals. They showed great resilience to take 4th place, narrowly missing 3rd place on penalty strokes. The U15B team were our most consistent and successful team on Saturday fixtures, going through the season undefeated (ten wins and two draws) and deserve praise for a great season.
