THE COLLECT OF THE D AY
The Celebrant says to the people
The Lord be with you.
All And also with you.
Let us pray.
Almighty God, the fountain of all wisdom, you know our necessities before we ask and our ignorance in asking: Have compassion on our weakness, and mercifully give us those things which for our unworthiness we dare not, and for our blindness we cannot ask; through the worthiness of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

The First Lesson: Leviticus 19:9-19
A reading from the Book of Leviticus
When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. You shall not strip your vineyard bare or gather the fallen grapes of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the poor and the alien: I am the LORD your God.
You shall not steal; you shall not deal falsely; and you shall not lie to one another. And you shall not swear falsely by my name, profaning the name of your God: I am the LORD. You shall not defraud your neighbor; you shall not steal; and you shall not keep for yourself the wages of a laborer until morning. You shall not revile the deaf or put a stumbling block before the blind; you shall fear your God: I am the LORD. You shall not render an unjust judgment; you shall not be partial to the poor or defer to the great: with justice you shall judge your neighbor. 16 You shall not go around as a slanderer among your people, and you shall not stand idly by when the blood of your neighbor is at stake: I am the LORD.
You shall not hate in your heart anyone of your kin; you shall reprove your neighbor, or you will incur guilt yourself. 18 You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against any of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD.
You shall keep my statutes. You shall not let your animals breed with a different kind; you shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed; nor shall you put on a garment made of two different materials. Hear what the Spirit is saying to God’s people.
All Thanks be to God.

1 LORD, you have searched me out and / known me; * you know my sitting down and my rising up; you discern my / thoughts from afar.
2 You trace my journeys and my resting- / places * and are acquainted / with all my ways.
3 Indeed, there is not a word on / my lips, * but you, O LORD, know it / altogether.
4 You press upon me behind and / before * and lay your / hand upon me.
5 Such knowledge is too wonderful / for me; * it is so high that I cannot / attain to it.
6 Where can I go then from your / Spirit? * where can I flee / from your presence?
7 If I climb up to heaven, you / are there; * if I make the grave my bed, you / are there also.
8 If I take the wings of the / morning * and dwell in the uttermost / parts of the sea,
9 Even there your hand will / lead me * and your right / hand hold me fast.
10 If I say, "Surely the darkness will / cover me, * and the light around / me turn to night,"
11 Darkness is not dark to you; the night is as bright as / the day; * darkness and light to you / are both alike.
22 Search me out, O God, and know / my heart; * try me and know / my restless thoughts.
23 Look well whether there be any wickedness / in me * and lead me in the way that is / everlasting.
The Epistle: Romans 8:12-25

the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption. When we cry, “Abba! Father!” it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ if, in fact, we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him. I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory about to be revealed to us. For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the children of God; for the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and will obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. We know that the whole creation has been groaning in labor pains until now; and not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly while we wait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies. For in hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what is seen? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience. Hear what the Spirit is saying to God’s people.
All Thanks be to God.
Please stand as you are able.

THE S EQUENCE HYMN Come,
The Holy Gospel: Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43
The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew. All Glory to you, Lord Christ
Jesus put before the crowd another parable: “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to someone who sowed good seed in his field; but while everybody was asleep, an enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and then went away. So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared as well. And the slaves of the householder came and said to him, ‘Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? Where, then, did these weeds come from?’ He answered, ‘An enemy has done this.’ The slaves said to him, ‘Then do you want us to go and gather them?’ But he replied, ‘No; for in gathering the weeds you would uproot the wheat along with them. Let both of them grow together until the harvest; and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, Collect the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.’”
Then he left the crowds and went into the house. And his disciples approached him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field.” He answered, “The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man; the field is the world, and the good seed are the children of the kingdom; the weeds are the children of the evil one, and the enemy who sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels. Just as the weeds are collected and burned up with fire, so will it be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect out of his

kingdom all causes of sin and all evildoers, and they will throw them into the furnace of fire, where there will be weep ing and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Let anyone with ears listen!”

The Celebrant says
Grant, O Lord, that all who are baptized into the death of Jesus Christ your Son may live in the power of his resurrection and look for him to come again in glory; who lives and reigns now and forever. Amen.
THANKSGIVING OVER THE WATER
The Lord be with you. All And also with you.
Celebrant Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. All It is right to give him thanks and praise.
We thank you, Almighty God, for the gift of water. Over it the Holy Spirit moved in the beginning of creation. Through it you led the children of Israel out of their bondage in Egypt into the land of promise. In it your Son Jesus received the baptism of John and was anointed by the Holy Spirit as the Messiah, the Christ, to lead us, through his death and resurrection, from the bondage of sin into everlasting life.
We thank you, Father, for the water of Baptism. In it we are buried with Christ in his death. By it we share in his resurrection. Through it we are reborn by the Holy Spirit. Therefore in joyful obedience to your Son, we bring into his fellowship those who come to him in faith, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
At the following words, the Celebrant touches the water
Now sanctify this water, we pray you, by the power of your Holy Spirit, that those who here are cleansed from sin and born ag ain may continue for ever in the risen life of Jesus Christ our Savior. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen.
THE BAPTISM
Cooper, I baptize you in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Then the Priest places a hand on the person's head, marking on the forehead the sign of the cross [using Chrism if desired] and saying
Cooper, you are sealed by the Holy Spirit in Baptism and marked as Christ's own for ever. Amen.
12
A candle is given to the newly baptized, using these words
Receive the light of Christ as a sign that you have passed from darkness into light. Shine as his light in the world to the glory of God the Father.
The Celebrant may then bless the family
May God the Father, who by Baptism adopts us as his children, grant you grace. Amen.
May God the Son, who sanctified a home at Nazareth, fill you with love. Amen. May God the Holy Spirit, who has made the Church one family, keep you in peace. Amen.
The Priest, at a place in full sight of the congregation, prays over the newly baptized, saying Let us pray.
Heavenly Father, we thank you that by water and the Holy Spirit you have bestowed upon this your servant the forgiveness of sin, and have raised him to the new life of grace. Sustain him, O Lord, in your Holy Spirit. Give him an inquiring and discerning heart, the courage to will and to persevere, a spirit to know and to love you, and the gift of joy and wonder in all your works. Amen.
The Celebrant then says Let us welcome the newly baptized.
All We receive you into the household of God. Confess the faith of Christ crucified, proclaim his resurrection, and share with us in his eternal priesthood.
THE P EACE
The peace of the Lord be always with you. All And also with you.
The people greet each other with a nod, handshake, hug or some other sign of peace. The Celebrant may begin the Offertory with a sentence of Scripture.
The people remain seated while an offering is received to support our ministry.
THE OFFERTORY
THE OFFERTORY RESPONSE

THE HOLY COMMUNION
This is Eucharistic Prayer 2 from “Enriching our Worship”
Please stand as you are able
Celebrant The Lord be with you.
All And also with you.
Celebrant Lift up your hearts.
All We lift them to the Lord.
Celebrant Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
All It is right to give our thanks and praise.
We praise you and we bless you, holy and gracious God, source of life abundant. From before time you made ready the creation. Your Spirit moved over the deep and brought all things into being: sun, moon, and stars; earth, winds, and waters; and every living thing. You made us in your image, and taught us to walk in your ways. But we rebelled against you, and wandered far away; and yet, as a mother cares for her children, you would not forget us. Time and again you called us to live in the fullness of your love.
And so this day we join with Saints and Angels in the chorus of praise that rings through eternity, lifting our voices to magnify you as we sing (say):

THE S ANCTUS & B ENEDICTUS
Holy, holy, holy Lord
The Hymnal 1982; #S129
14
You may now kneel as you are able, or you may choose to continue standing. The Celebrant continues
Glory and honor and praise to you, holy and living God. To deliver us from the power of sin and death and to reveal the riches of your grace, you looked with favor upon Mary, your willing servant, that she might conceive and bear a son, Jesus the holy child of God. Living among us, Jesus loved us. He broke bread with outcasts and sinners, healed the sick, and proclaimed good news to the poor. He yearned to draw all the world to himself yet we were heedless of his call to walk in love. Then, the time came for him to complete upon the cross the sacrifice of his life, and to be glorified by you.
At the following words concerning the bread, the Celebrant is to hold it, or lay a hand upon it; and at the words concerning the cup, to hold or place a hand upon the cup and any other vessel containing the wine to be consecrated.
On the night before he died for us, Jesus was at table with his friends. He took bread, gave thanks to you, broke it, and gave it to them, and said: “Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.” As supper was ending, Jesus took the cup of wine. Again, he gave thanks to you, gave it to them, and said:
“Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is poured out for you and for all for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.”
Now gathered at your table, O God of all creation, and remembering Christ, crucified and risen, who was and is and is to come, we offer to you our gifts of bread and wine, and ourselves, a living sacrifice.
Pour out your Spirit upon these gifts that they may be the Body and Blood of Christ. Breathe your Spirit over the whole earth and make us your new creation, the Body of Christ given for the world you have made.
In the fullness of time bring us, with [___________ and] all your saints, from every tribe and language and people and nation, to feast at the banquet prepared from the foundation of the world.
Through Christ and with Christ and in Christ, in the unity of the Hol y Spirit, to you be honor, glory, and praise, for ever and ever. AMEN.
As our Savior Christ has taught us, we now pray, (using the traditional version)

THE LORD’S P RAYER

as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
We break this bread to share in the body of Christ. All We who are many are one body, for we all share in the one bread.
THE I NVITATION TO COMMUNION
Lifting the bread and cup, the priest invites the people, saying Bread and wine; the gifts of God for the people of God. All May we who share these gifts be found in Christ and Christ in us.
All who seek God and a deeper life in Christ are welcome at the Altar rail, and we invite all baptized Christians to receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Come forward to the altar rail and kneel or stand with an upturned palm to receive the host. (Gluten-free wafers are available upon request.) To receive the wine, you may either drink from the chalice or intinct (dip) your host into it. The Church has long held that if you take only one form of Communion (either the bread or the wine) you are FULLY communed; Thus no one should feel that they must sip from the Common Cup. If you’d prefer not to receive communion, but would like to receive a blessing, kneel or stand at the altar rail with your arms crossed over your chest. Please do not hesitate to ask for communion to be brought to you in your pew, if needed
