Most days we find ourselves fully engaged in the moment, especially in schools. But, even with so much of importance happening in the now, as school administrators and trustees, we must also be planning for a bright future. St. John’s School, approaching our 60th anniversary, has long been the educational choice for parents on Guam.

It is our responsibility, and our honor, to take the steps that ensure St. John’s School’s excellence and prosperity for many generations to come.

To that end the Board of Trustees has collaborated on a strategic plan that covers five general areas. This booklet describes those plans in a general way.

The Board’s standing committees will now work to turn these strategies and objectives into specific actions.

We want to share this work with you, our school community members. With it comes our commitment to serving you and all future St. John’s parents and their children.

EDUCATION STRATEGY OUR STUDENTS & PROGRAMS Continue to deliver an internationally competitive curriculum that supports our school Mission and Schoolwide Learner Outcomes.

Objectives Conduct a regular review of curricular programs for alignment to Mission, Schoolwide Learner Outcomes, and attainment of skills.

Establish course-wide curriculum standards, ensuring vertical and horizontal alignment of grade levels.

Develop a system of review of student data to support the improvement of school programs through the identification of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.

PEOPLE & POLICIES STRATEGY OUR TEAM & PRACTICES Build a team of dedicated and talented professionals to carry forth our school’s Mission and deliver our Schoolwide Learner Outcomes through thoughtful and relevant policies.

Objectives Ensure an effective Board and Head of School through the implementation of protocols for succession planning, structured orientation and assessment.

Attract, retain, and develop a diverse faculty composed of the region’s most dedicated and talented teachers by providing development opportunities, regular evaluation, and competitive compensation.

BUILDING & GROUNDS STRATEGY OUR CAMPUS Create a campus that is welcoming, nurturing, and safe with facilities that support a diversity of programs.

Objectives Conduct facilities audits, that include safety and program support.

Develop a school-wide maintenance plan.

Optimize the use of our current facilities and explore the possibility of renovating or building new facilities.

FINANCE STRATEGY OUR FOUNDATION

Ensure a solid future for the school through the preservation of our competitiveness, proper management of our resources, and diversification of our revenue.

Objectives Revaluate school policies to ensure they support the proper management of our resources.

Institute a tuition and fee structure that enhances our competitiveness through its perceived value.

Work to increase the percentage of non-tuition revenue each year until it is more than 20% of total revenue.

DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY OUR FUTURE Maximize development opportunities to support school projects.

Objectives Revive the Alumni Program.

Develop a charity calendar.

Explore government, regional, international, and corporate sources of funding.
