Lower School Makes a Difference!

The Lower School has been a blessing to our family. Since joining the SJS community in 2021, we have treasured the work of its faculty and support team. The attention to the child in the Lower School, most especially in the Performing and Visual Arts, makes the Lower School an invaluable resource to the students’ growing minds. It is unquestionable that a nurturing environment encouraging a love of learning in preschool and elementary school widens the opportunity for a student to more easily thrive in the coming grades. St John’s Lower School and the support of its community have been that beacon of light to a more promising future for our daughters and their classmates.

Mr. Mark Santos and Ms. Nita Vivatrat (SJS Parents)

Because our students make a Difference in the world, you can make a Difference in their lives. The St. Johns Annual Fund is being launched by the Board of Trustees to help raise funds for facilities and educational programs. While tuition covers 100% of our daily operations, there are many aspects of our campus and programs that could be enhanced with additional funds. We want to give our students the best! Our students need your support to make a Difference in the world. The Board has identified the following projects for use of the funds: new scoreboard for gym, canopy for Paka Lanai, teacher’s lounge improvements, typhoon shutters for gym, office and drama rooms, and scholarships. However, your gift can also be designated to a specific need that speaks to you.

Upper School Makes a Difference!

As a lifer, I can say that St. John’s School has played a vital role in shaping me into the student and person I am today. SJS provides an environment where every student is encouraged to pursue their academic interests to the fullest. The teachers give every student the attention they need. No one falls through the cracks. At St. John’s, I’ve always felt that hard work is rewarded and you get out what you put in. It’s one of the lessons I’ve learned at this school, along with how to develop a good work ethic and steady study habits academically. The importance of kindness and respect are principles I’ll also take with me outside of the classroom. I’m glad I’ve attended SJS since Pre-K 3. St. John’s has prepared me for the challenges of college and what lies beyond.

Faculty Makes a Difference!

As a St. John’s alumna, I know full well the impact of faculty on the lives of students. I can still recall middle school and walking into the English room to Mrs. Wible’s warm welcome making me feel like I belonged. In Mrs. Hull’s class, we were encouraged to be curious and ask questions, but most importantly we were made to feel what we said and thought mattered. As my mentor and colleague, Mrs. Hull showed me that the heart of teaching is the relationship between the teacher and the student. Faculty at St. John’s teach skills and content; they create lessons to ensure students learn to think critically, but most of all, St. John’s teachers challenge their students to become the best version of themselves. Content and skills are as important as ethics and empathy. In clubs and classes, teachers create opportunities for students to move beyond their comfort zone, to explore their passions, or to create new understandings. Teachers here are engaged and present when teaching classes, but also when cheering on athletes at games, when supporting student artists at their shows, and when encouraging students at academic competitions. This kind of support is what we believe makes a difference in the kind of person our students become.
