Your legacy of Communitas for future generations
When our founders chose to name the College after St Hilda of Whitby, their reasoning was clear. Her dedication to the creation of a community of learners, whomever they may be, mirrored their own vision of what St Hilda’s should be.
60 years later, these founding values remain at the heart of what we do. We pride ourselves on providing a community for young people, regardless of where they come to us from. The St Hilda’s College experience is one of transformation and is unashamedly grounded in the College motto of Communitas.
I am always so humbled by the thoughtfulness and generosity of the very special Hildarians who leave gifts in their Wills to St Hilda’s.
By leaving a gift in your Will to St Hilda’s you can create a lasting legacy to help us continue transforming the lives of young people well into the future.

Hildarians across our history are well acquainted with St Hilda of Whitby, our namesake and a patron saint of learning and culture.
The ammonite is an important symbol associated with St Hilda.
Also known as snake stones, the legend of the ammonite tells the story of a plague of snakes being turned to stone by Hilda as she prayed.
Many centuries later, these ammonite fossils can still be found throughout the cliffs of Whitby.
We have chosen the ammonite as the symbol of The Communitas Society in recognition of the legacy that its members will leave to our college for generations to come.
