As a college that was founded under the mission of providing access to education for families for the regional and remote communities of Victoria, it is always a special occasion to host Paddock to Plate at St Hilda’s. It is our pleasure to host families of our current students, acknowledging the incredible and supportive role you have all played in our students’ lives, while also celebrating the work and produce of our regional and rural heartland.
In our 60th year, we now of course welcome students from all over Australia and the world which offers an incredibly diverse community experience for our students. And while this diversity will underpin the future dynamic of our community, it is still important to us to maintain a strong connection to the regions with over 60% of our students still coming from nonmetropolitan centres of Australia. Supporting students and families from these communities will always be a critical part of St Hilda’s mission and watching on as students from incredibly diverse backgrounds connect, forge lifelong friendships and learn from each other is a privilege that I will never take for granted.
The charitable component of this event, supporting the work of Rural Aid, is a demonstration of the importance of our College’s ethos and motto to our student body. Communitas is the spirit of supporting and giving back to your community and I am grateful for your collective support of our student body in their work to contribute to incredible charitable causes each and every year.
Thank you to all those who have contributed to making this event a reality. From the families who have provided primary produce, drinks or decorations to the team of volunteers and staff who have spent many hours planning. I look forward to connecting with you all and celebrating our fantastic students and families that call this wonderful college home.
