ST. GEORGE’S INDEPENDENT SCHOOL
We're all in because our woods and wetlands provide so many opportunities for learning.
Dear St. George’s Supporters,
Thank you for supporting the most extraordinary school and students, and in turn, advancing the mission of St. George’s Independent School. Because of you, we are poised for a season of growth in our community and service to our students at an unprecedented level.
Without a doubt, St. George’s has the history, people, facilities, and vision to stand out as the best independent school in Tennessee in academics, the arts, athletics, culture, school spirit and more. Through the largest annual giving year in St. George’s history, we have grown the expertise of our faculty, experience of our coaches, and investment into our facilities and operations.
So, now the real adventure begins. Let’s go ALL IN—combining the best of our extraordinary history with an aggressive, innovative approach for the future. Together, we will build the best St. George’s yet, serving our students, families, and alumni.
Join us and set your course for building Gryphons of greatness.
With Gratitude,
Dear St. George’s Families and Friends,
The 2023-2024 school year was awesome—flat out awesome—in so many ways! Across our campuses, students were alive with learning, and our community was strong and supportive day in and day out.
We completed the fiscal year with the strongest annual fund performance in SGIS history! And it’s all because of you—our supporters and donors. Our annual fund is the lifeblood of our school. With it, we are able to go above and beyond for our students and teachers by enriching the programs that make St. George’s so special.
As we look to this current school year, we are poised to set new goals for our annual fund; and, we want to invite you to be a part of helping us realize our dreams. We hope you will join us by being ALL IN to support St. George’s this year. With your participation, there is no limit to what we can achieve together. When we all give, we all benefit. Thank you for believing in St. George’s, and thank you for trusting us to make our school the best place, for every student, every day.
With Gratitude,
Kyle Slatery ’98

The Crews Family Center for Academic Excellence was established in 2024 through the generosity of Jason and Michelle Crews P’20, ’26. The Crews Center for Academic Excellence will make possible ongoing financial support for learning services at St. George’s. Through this gift, St. George’s has created an integrated learning services program across our campuses, spearheaded by the Crews Family Endowed Chair for Academic Excellence, Dr. Brenda Monk.
The Crews family’s gift creates a long-term, sustainable investment to fulfill our mission of student-centered learning and academic success for all students, for many years to come.
The Whitsitt Center for Science and Technology was established in 2023 through the generous support of the late Dr. Bob Klesges (parent of Chris ’00 and Josh ’12), in memory of long-time friend and SGIS coach, William Whitsitt (parent of Allie ’12 and Virginia ’14), who passed in 2020.
The Whitsitt Center will provide funding to support enhanced programming in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), ensuring St. George’s continues to develop as the leader in STEM education for many years to come.
Thanks to the generosity of Michael and Suzana Lightman P’24, the Lightman Family Fund for Journalism was established in the winter of 2024 in honor of their daughter, Sienna ’24, who was an enthusiastic and passionate studentjournalist during her time at St. George's.
The Lightman Family Fund for Journalism will provide resources to meet the multimedia goals for the Newsmagazine course at St. George’s. The fund will also assist with the production, publishing, and distribution of the school’s award-winning newsmagazine, The Lodge, and its website.
We're all in because SGIS faculty, staff and administrators are all in for my child—and that means everything.

The Heart of a Gryphon capital campaign kicked off in 2023 to raise funds for specific facility improvement projects. Through the leadership of Lauren Young P’21, ’25, ’30, and generosity of numerous benefactors, we completed field grading and a turf addition at Ferguson Field, and a dedicated shot put and discus throwing field at the Collierville Campus and added new cubbies, paint, window blinds, and ceiling tiles in the Gibson Building at the Germantown Campus.
The next phases include the Compton Aquatic Center redevelopment project, Whicker Pitch soccer field seating, and resurfacing the eight lane track around Ferguson Field at Stokes Stadium.

Greetings Gryphon community. The excitement of the new school year brings with it another season of board leadership for our amazing group of Trustees to roll up their sleeves and get to work. The past year was one of great change that brought together constituents from across our community; trustees, school leadership, faculty & staff, parents, students, alumni, and past supporters of St. George's.
Many of you have experienced the changes influenced by the work of the Trustees directly, including:
• Collaborating with Timothy Gibson and Luke Pruett to facilitate an organizational change to position all stakeholders for success
• Working closely with school leadership to address campus security and health/medical needs
• Developing and supporting the Heart of a Gryphon campaign leading to major investments in facilities and infrastructure across all three campuses
• Transitioning our banking relationship to better serve the needs of our business operations
• Opening lines of communication with our faculty and staff to amplify their voice in the decision making process
• Supporting the recruiting and placement of key personnel
• Initiating and continuing support of our accreditation process
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our dedicated faculty and staff, supportive parents, and engaged alumni for their unwavering commitment to our Gryphon community. Your partnership is essential to our continued success.
As we look ahead, we remain focused on providing an exceptional education that empowers our students to reach their full potential. Our focus will be to build upon the momentum created this past year and implement initiatives that will allow us to drive sustainable improvements to our community that align with our mission as Trustees of the school. We are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and look forward to sharing our continued progress with you.
With humble thankfulness, Ben Mrva, P’32, ‘34 Chair, 2023-2024 Board of Trustees

Early Childhood Parent
Reflecting on this past school year, my Gryphon heart is so grateful for our school community and the countless acts of service and leadership our parents, families and alumni came together to create. In serving on the Parents Association for many years, what brings me the most joy is seeing all the ways we have to connect with fellow families and enrich the environment that fosters our students’ experience daily. From starting the 2023-24 school year off meeting families at the New Family Gatherings and football tailgates to hosting the PA's inaugural State of the School, we come together to welcome new faces and celebrate just how special it is to be a part of St. George’s.
Across our campuses, the PA prioritizes ways to demonstrate appreciation to our faculty, as we recognize the effort they give day in and day out to ensure our children are receiving the best and most comprehensive education. I am thankful for all the volunteers who constantly show their enthusiasm to give back to our school that gives so much to our students.
The commitment to our school goes beyond the walls of St. George’s as the PA leads the way in annual giving. This would not be possible without the support of our families making a dedicated effort to give back through PA events, like the Fall Fundraiser and last year's Gryphon Gala & Auction.
This is the start of an exciting chapter ahead and we truly appreciate the support from all our families and look forward to a great year!
With Gratitude,
Alicia Juckett, P’26 Chair, 2023-2024 Parents Association
At St. George’s, all parents are members of the Parents Association. We are grateful to our dedicated executive and campus board members, as well as the gifts and talents of our many parent volunteers who serve and engage in our school community.

I am excited to start my 16th year at St. George’s. During the last four years, I have seen our community grow in a variety of ways, and I am excited to support Luke as he begins his tenure as Head of School.
In my new role as Head of Student and Alumni Affairs, I look forward to strengthening the connection between our current and former students. It is remarkable to see all that SGIS graduates have accomplished since the first class graduated in 2006, and we look forward to highlighting your successes in the year to come. Our current students love to hear from alumni and it is a great way for current students and parents to understand just how valuable the St. George’s experience is.
The Class of 2024 is our 19th graduating class. We now have 1,564 high school graduates (since 2006) joining the decades of students who attended St. George’s Day School. These graduates are as adventurous as ever— enrolling at colleges and universities in 42 schools in 21 states, plus England. Fifteen students are the first from SGIS to attend their school and 12 students are playing a sport in college.
Caroline Ruffin '24 created an alumni visit series for her Specialized Independent Study, and we have asked to adopt it going forward so that we can build an ongoing network of alumni speakers. Please let us know if you would like to talk to current students as I am certain that we can find a way to make that happen.
We are thankful so many of you have updated your contact information in our system, as it allows us to know the many areas our Gryphons now call home. We have growing alumni populations in many areas and I cannot wait to visit with you as I travel to Dallas, Denver, Birmingham, New York City, Baltimore/DC and Atlanta this year. I will let you know as my dates are confirmed, and I hope we will be able to meet for coffee, dinner or drinks so I can hear all of the great things happening with you and share the many wonderful new initiatives happening at SGIS.
As always, please feel free to stop by campus the next time you are in town. We would love to show you around.
With Gratitude,
Timothy Gibson
