Dear St. George’s Supporters,
As I reflect on the past school year at St. George’s Independent School, one word rises to the top: gratitude.
Each day, I see the impact of your generosity reflected in the faces of our students—in their curiosity, their confidence, and their deepening sense of purpose. The 2024–2025 school year was one of meaningful growth and joyful learning across all three campuses. And it was made possible, in large part, because of you.

This year’s Gratitude Report is more than a summary of giving. It’s a celebration of the shared commitment that fuels our mission: to develop young people who are prepared not only for college but for lives of integrity and service.
On behalf of our Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, and students, thank you for believing in the power of a St. George’s education. Your trust and investment honor our mission and inspire us to keep reaching higher.
With Gratitude,

Luke Pruett, JD, P’28, ‘30, ‘35 Head of School

$9,299,980 Raised by SGIS Community Thank you!
We are sincerely thankful for your generous support of St. George’s Independent School during the 2024–2025 year. The total raised by the SGIS community was $9,299,980.

Dear St. George’s Families and Friends,
Another exceptional year at St. George’s is complete, and I find myself deeply grateful for the time, talent, and generosity that our community has invested in our students, faculty, families, and alumni. When we are ALL IN for St. George’s, we all thrive and grow together. Thank you!
We completed the 2024-2025 fiscal year exceeding last year’s annual fund performance, and an extraordinary 98% of our faculty made a gift to the Annual Fund–both historic achievements!

Apart from tuition, the Annual Fund is our greatest contributor to revenue generation at St. George’s. Where tuition covers the bulk of our operating budget, the Annual Fund bridges the gap, allowing all of our programs, clubs, traditions, and sports to thrive. It is the difference between being a good school, and a great school!
As we celebrate the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year, we look forward to sharing the stories and experiences of St. George’s that make it so special—stories made possible by your support. With every gift to the Annual Fund, we pledge to fill the hearts and minds of every Gryphon to create memories and experiences that will last a lifetime.
Thank you for believing in St. George’s—our mission, our people, and the lasting impact we have together.
With Gratitude,

Kyle Slatery ‘98 Director of Advancement

Founded in 2024, the Wes Smith Center for Student Life was established to celebrate and carry forward the spirit of Wes Smith ‘21—his faith, his love for others, and a deep commitment to community. More than just a name, the Wes Smith Center at St. George’s serves as a catalyst for connection, traditions, and student-centered ideas.
In its very first year, the Center funded $159,000 in student life programming, supporting everything from spontaneous fun to lasting tradition. Highlights included transforming the legendary Senior Trip to Nowhere into a full-blown overnight road trip to Great Wolf Lodge and helping bring Back to the Lodge, our first alumni reunion weekend, to life. Most importantly, the Center also established an endowed fund to provide sustainable funding for student life, ensuring students for years to come are always encouraged to lead with joy and #LiveLikeWes.
Since being established in the Fall of 2023, endowed funding from the Whitsitt Center has had a significant impact on the science and technology programs at SGIS. This initiative has most recently enabled St. George’s to replace outdated Vernier data collection tools with modern wireless models that include improved software, which not only benefits long-standing use in physics and 8th grade IPS—where students actively explore concepts like Newton’s laws through hands-on data collection— but also expands access to other courses.
Environmental Science students can now analyze water quality, and those in Anatomy and Physiology can monitor heart rate and blood pressure during activity. Thanks to the generous support from the late Dr. Bob Klesges, St. George’s continues to foster deeper, experiential learning across its STEM curriculum.

Launched 2024, the Crews Family Center for Academic Excellence has significantly enriched the educational experience for all students at St. George’s through learning services programming.
Thanks to dedicated classroom space, integrated technology, and a student-centered approach, the Center has empowered students to embrace their unique learning styles while fostering a more inclusive school culture.
The initiative has also enabled professional growth for the Learning Services team, including participation in the SAIS Academic Support conference, and set the stage for future expansion. For 2025–2026, SGIS will introduce Learning Support teachers at every grade level (1–5) and a dedicated Orton-Gillingham Specialist to support students with dyslexia.
Thanks to the Crews family’s generous support, St. George’s continues to build a community where all students can thrive.
Funded by an anonymous donor and sponsored by the Crews Family Center for Academic Excellence, the Gifted Twice Grant Program has empowered teachers across SGIS to enhance the learning experience for all students, including those who learn differently.
In its inaugural year, eight grants were awarded to support a diverse range of innovative, educatorled initiatives. Projects included a third-grade squid dissection, a penguin encounter at the Memphis Zoo, the creation of a decodable book library to support early literacy, and materials to strengthen phonemic awareness and differentiated reading strategies. Additional grants funded outdoor learning chairs, raised-bed gardening, and pottery tools for middle school students.
Together, these projects reflect St. George’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence and inclusion by providing meaningful support for neurodiverse learners and fostering deeper student engagement across all campuses.

Our Fine Arts Collective continues to flourish on all campuses, with your donations making it possible to elevate our programs in visual arts, music, theater, and digital media.
This year, our digital media students created a 20+ page coloring book of important sites around campus. The Middle and Upper School fall play was staged with upgraded sound equipment and our 1st and 5th grade students attended a performance of Annie Jr. at the Germantown Community Theater— both of which were funded entirely through the support of generous donors.
With your generous contributions, we enriched classroom learning with cutting-edge technology, expanded professional development, and dynamic new curricular resources. Lower School students can now bring problem-solving, spatial reasoning, and digital prototyping to life with a new 3D printer— transforming imagination into innovation.
In Middle and Upper School, students are engaging deeply with themes of identity, justice, and civic responsibility through the Facing History and Ourselves curriculum. And across all divisions, faculty took part in impactful workshops and conferences that sparked fresh ideas and new approaches— ensuring our classrooms remain vibrant, thoughtful, and forward-thinking learning environments.

When we’re all in together, great things happen! Thanks to the generosity of our community, both Annual Fund contributions and restricted donations made a meaningful impact across all three St. George’s campuses. These gifts supported memorable events, enriching experiences, and sustained our four Pillars of Excellence: Academics, Arts, Athletics, and the Outdoors. Thank you for your generous support.

Athletics at St. George’s is about more than games— it’s about leadership, discipline, and resilience. Thanks to donor funding, we provided free aftercare to in-season Middle School student-athletes, updated and refreshed our film room and indoor batting facility, invested in new equipment and uniforms at all levels, and added a nutrition station for our Middle and Upper School student-athletes.
Our inclusive approach to athletics was further strengthened through our continued investment in the sports program in our Lower Schools, a priority initiative that lays the foundation for a lifetime of healthy habits and teamwork.
With 250 acres of breathtaking woods, wetlands, and beaches along the Wolf River, our students have endless opportunities to explore, collaborate, and simply enjoy the outdoors. This year, your generosity made a lasting impact— expanding our outdoor classroom spaces, revitalizing the Suburban Farms gardens, chicken coop, and beehives, and increasing hands-on learning experiences in nature.
From second graders studying insects beneath the forest canopy, to middle school wellness classes kayaking across our pond, to juniors and seniors conducting AP Environmental Science research in our wetlands—your support brought learning to life and deepened students’ connection to the natural world.

Whether you're giving to the Annual Fund, contributing through the Alumni Association, or supporting in another meaningful way, your investment helps enrich student lives, empower educators, and enhance every aspect of the St. George’s experience.

It's been another amazing year at St. George's! I am honored to reflect on a transformative year in the life of our school. The 2024–25 school year was marked by significant milestones that reflect our board’s deep commitment to the SGIS mission, long-term strength, and the students and families we serve.
Foremost among our accomplishments was the Board’s role in supporting the successful unification of our lower schools onto one campus—a strategic move that begins this August.

This transition honors the remarkable legacy and impact of our Memphis Campus, whose success has helped shape the character and reach of our school.
The Board worked closely with our leadership team throughout this process, ensuring thoughtful planning, respectful community engagement, and a strong foundation for the next chapter of lower school excellence.
This year, the Board also collaborated with school leadership to stabilize and strengthen our business operations. Along with our Business Office, we have taken meaningful steps to reinforce our school’s financial health and operational integrity.
We were also proud to support the school in navigating a successful accreditation process. This milestone affirms the quality of our academic programs, governance, and overall institutional health—an important external validation of the hard work happening across all areas of the school.
Together, these accomplishments reflect the Board’s strategic focus on sustainability, excellence, and mission alignment. I am deeply grateful to my fellow trustees for their dedication and to the entire SGIS community for their partnership and trust. As we march towards the beginning of another school year with the largest enrollment we've had in nearly a decade, we look forward to building on our progress and continuing to strengthen our school and community.

With gratitude, Ben Mrva, P’32, ’34 Chair, 2024-2025 Board of Trustees
The Building Our Future Together Capital Campaign was born from a bold vision—to unite our Memphis and Germantown campuses and strengthen our community as one. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our donors, we are now bringing this vision to life. Their support is making it possible to complete vital renovations at the Lower School, transforming the space into a warm, inspiring environment where every student feels supported, valued, and at home. We are profoundly grateful for the leadership and dedication that are shaping the future of our school.

Each year, I am reminded of how truly special St. George’s and the families who call it home are to my heart, as well as the amazing things we can achieve together.
Our community is more committed than ever to serving our school, fostering a sense of hope for the preservation and success of our beloved institution.
I am deeply grateful for the volunteers who consistently demonstrate their enthusiasm for giving back to a school that gives so much to our students.
Having served on the Parents Association for many years, the greatest joy for me comes from seeing the diverse ways we connect with one another and enrich the environment that shapes our students’ daily experiences. The Autumn Affair was a beautiful gathering that brought parents and alumni together to celebrate our community and the unique traditions that make being a Gryphon so special. Additionally, the Art Show, football tailgates, and State of the School event further nurtured the spirit of St. George’s.
Our faculty work tirelessly to ensure every student receives the best educational experience this country has to offer, which is why the Parents Association prioritizes appreciation and support for them each year. We are committed to showing our love and gratitude throughout the year by providing special treats, coffees, luncheons, and, most importantly, a helping hand.
The commitment to our school extends beyond its walls, with the Parents Association leading the way in annual giving. This would not be possible without the dedicated efforts of our families, who support events like the spring fundraiser and online auction.
I am excited to welcome another year together and sincerely value the support from all our families!

With Gratitude, Haley Farrell P'31, '32 Parents Association Chair

Their passion and involvement help shape the heart of St. George’s, enriching the experience for every child and family.

The annual Tacky Sweater Party was a heartwarming celebration that lifted spirits even as the temperature dipped under the tent. Alumni from across the decades came together in a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere filled with laughter, shared stories, and festive cheer. It was a night of rekindled friendships and new memories made. A special shoutout to the Class of 2016, whose enthusiastic and reliable turnout continues to set the gold (and glittery) standard for alumni engagement!

Our inaugural Alumni Weekend in May was a resounding success, and Back to the Lodge exceeded all expectations. The Kick-Off Tailgate delivered sunshine, outdoor fun, and a joyful crowd— including plenty of future little Gryphons. Saturday night saw McClain Library transformed into the most spirited dinner party in town, with the deck turning into a star-lit dance floor. We’re deeply grateful to everyone who came back to celebrate—and we’re already looking forward to next year!
