Animation, design, editing, video–Edinburgh Work Experience – aged 16-18

This might just be the in-person work experience you need. See details and application information with Heehaw.

Want to see what life’s like leading a team to complete a video on time? Looking to build your portfolio of animation and motion design? Maybe you’re an editor seeking more experience in a professional capacity?

From Monday, April 3rd - Thursday, April 6th, 2023, Heehaw will be opening its doors to three high school students (age 16-18) looking at getting into production, animation/motion design, or video editing with a unique work experience opportunity.

The three chosen students will be given a “client brief” to pour over together. Then, throughout the week, they will work as a team in an intensive process to deliver a finished project by Thursday. The client brief will be provided by Heehaw, and is not from clients we are working with. However, you will be creating work you can use in your showreel or portfolios to assist with future opportunities.

Please email your application following the guidelines (in PDF - see Mrs Hall if you can't access these) to: jobs@heehaw.co.uk

Scottish Space School

Scottish Space School 2023

University of Strathclyde

12 – 16 June 2023

Applications Open Friday 17th February 2023

The University of Strathclyde are delighted to be offering the programme in person again in 2023 for school pupils in S5 across Scotland after two years of hosting the programme virtually.

The programme is aimed at those with a specific interest in Maths and Science, and there are 80 places available. Participants will hear from staff at the University of Strathclyde who will provide an insight into studying and working in the field of engineering, as well as hearing from colleagues from NASA. Participants will also take part in a group project throughout the week which they will present to a selection panel made up of staff from the University and NASA on the final afternoon with a prize for the winning team.

The programme is non-residential and therefore pupils should be able to make their way each day, 9am-5pm to the Strathclyde University Campus in the heart of Glasgow City Centre. Teachers are not required to accompany pupils. There will also be an evening session – a Public Lecture with NASA Astronauts - 5.30pm-7pm on Wednesday 17th June which successful applicants will be expected to attend.

We are also delighted to announce that the week-long ‘Learning Journey to NASA’ trip to Houston, USA will return for October 2023. 8 pupils will be selected during the week for this fantastic opportunity.

Further information and the online application form are available on the Space School website:

https://www.strath.ac.uk/engineering/scottishspaceschool/. A link to the online application form will also be available here from Friday 17th February 2023, when applications open.

`

The deadline for applications is Monday 13th March 2023. The selection panel will meet in mid-March and all applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application by Friday 31st March 2023. In the application form, pupils are asked to supply the name and contact details for a teacher who can provide a statement in support of their application. Teachers will receive an automated email which will include a designated link to the online application in order to submit their statement. We ask that teacher statements are submitted online by Monday 20th March 2023, in order for the application to be considered.

I would really appreciate your support in highlighting this opportunity to your S5 students.

If you would like any further information on the programme, please contact us by email at:
