Freckles – Christmas Holiday Course Page | 10

Here at Freckles HQ we are getting ready for our final 3 Junior & Ski Nanny Courses of 2023 (where has the year gone?). Due to a couple of course shifts from students we have two sparkling festive spaces that have come available on the December course (11-15). I am wondering if there are any of your students who are keen to do the course this year ahead of exams (it really helps to maximise their chance of getting a ski season on their gap year if that's their vibe) or perhaps some alumni who have been looking from afar and just need the added Christmas sparkle to help them jump right in?!

  

I have popped the link below for anyone who is keen to add the Junior & Ski Nanny course to their CV. Don't forget... it ticks the Gold DofE residential box too they have lifetime access to all of our opportunities; ski seasons, summer seasons, holiday nannying, festival & wedding nannying and a heap more it's open to students aged 16 years + Sparkling Christmas Junior & Ski Nanny Course

French politics – Taster on 18th January

Insight4me French on 18th January is an online event for schools and colleges in which two universities each have 30 minutes to deliver a punchy, interactive topic based ‘micro’ talk within the overall session theme of French Politics. Ilse Renaudie, Associate Professor in French Language at UEA will discuss Immigration in French Politics Today, considering the highly controversial immigration bill passed in December 2023 and what it tells us about the state of politics in France. Presented as a measure to protect the French people and the French social security system, Ilse explores how the French feel about this reform and how immigration is perceived in society. We will look at the place of immigration in politics and the growing influence of the far-right. We are just confirming the second speaker who will follow Ilse. The session will be led in English but with ongoing reference to and use of French language. Page | 11

Life at IBM. Watch this short video.

I would absolutely suggest that any prospective apprentices keep an eye on IBM social accounts (LinkedIn, Instagram, and TikTok) as well as register their interest on our IBM Apprenticeships Website to be the first to hear about National Apprenticeship Weeks 2023’s events. There is a real focus in 2023 to provide guidance and support for how to apply to IBM Technical Apprenticeships and what life is really like within IBM as an apprentice – Anyone can join these sessions! With my strategic view of the Apprentice Community, the community strives to collaborate with other groups such as the internal mental health and wellbeing team for early professionals. Page | 31

Malgorzata Jagoda - Data, AI and Automation Sales.

I applied to join IBM in March 2021 (the very last round of applications) and was very fortunate to get assigned to a Talent Acquisition Role in HR. Initially, I was planning to go travelling to South America in my gap year, and then apply to university. At that point, I still wasn’t sure whether I really wanted to go to university, but the ‘uni experience’ was very appealing. Then, along came the pandemic which took everyone by surprise and complicated many plans. IBM came up in a conversation I had with my friend, who was an apprentice at the time, and he explained what the futures scheme was. I applied, and found out I was successful within a couple of weeks of sending my application in. My role was in HR - something I never thought I’d find myself doing! I was then on the other side of the application process, recruiting Futures and University Placement students for

the following year. This involved managing the applications, running Exploration Sessions and communicating outcomes. In my spare time, I took advantage of many giveback opportunities. I was the co-lead for the PwDA (People with Diverse Abilities) community which enabled me to gain a better understanding of different disabilities and how I can support colleagues who may have them. I was also able to get involved in career fairs, mentoring schemes and many other great giveback initiatives. In September, I started my Digital and Technology Solutions (DTS) Degree Apprenticeship at IBM. This means that 20% of my working week is dedicated to university, so I work for IBM 4 days of the week and study on 1. I am doing my 3year degree at Northeastern University in London which is remote. This year, I am also in a new role - Data, AI and Automation Sales. I am excited for the next 3 years and what’s to come afterwards.
