Accountancy Training for School Leaver

Just as a quick introduction my name is Simi and I work for a London based recruitment agency, Gambit Search. We help source talent across the UK for the majority of the top 50 ranked accountancy firms.

I am writing to you today as one of our accountancy clients are looking for a school leaver to come on board and join their corporate restructuring and insolvency team in Edinburgh.

Our client is a financial and business advisory firm that specialise in forensic investigations, insolvency, restructuring and corporate finance. They have over 20 offices and are highly reputable.

This opportunity is very rare and unique, and I do think this role will appeal to many sixth formers that don’t want to go down the university route. It is also a great opportunity for them to kick start career in the world of finance.

As an overview, they will join the team as a trainee and learn all about insolvency all while assisting a team that works on high profile insolvency cases (in the millions). Once they gain a strong foundation, our client will provide accountancy training and study support to allow them to progress and build a career.

My client is keen to start the interview process soon and would like an ambitious and motivated individual, which I believe they can find from your highly reputable school, to commence work at the end of May / early June.

I would appreciate if you could share this with the sixth formers within your school. I have attached the job spec in this email, and I am more than happy to arrange a call with yourself to answer any questions you might have for me regarding this role.

Residential Volunteering Opportunity for Summer in Scotland

Hello,

I was wondering if you might be able to help me. I'm looking to share a volunteering opportunity with your S6 pupils (and/ or staff)? I'm part of a registered charity called the Newman Holiday Trust who provide free residential holidays as respite care for young people aged 3-18 with additional and complex support needs, normally from disadvantaged backgrounds. We hold a holiday each year in Scotland, previously hosted at Glenalmond College, but now at Strathallan School in Perth. This year the Scottish Holiday is going to be from the 15th to the 23rd of July and all accommodation and food is provided for our helpers. This year, we are struggling to reach our normal number of helpers for the holiday (especially our number of boys) so are exploring new avenues to share the opportunity more widely.

I thought it might be worthwhile reaching out to schools, like yourself, who have committed, keen young people who may want to volunteer their time to help a worthy cause? If they are 18 years old by the start of the holiday in July they can be full helpers. We can also take two 17 year olds per holiday for work experience who will be buddied with someone more experienced. If your school complete Gold Duke of Ed or other volunteering awards, these hours can also count towards them as this has been done in the past.

Our applications officially close at the end of the week. However, if anyone was interested in applying and didn't have time before the deadline, they could let us know at this email address and we could give them a short extension.

I've volunteered with NHT for the last 10 years since I just left school and I can say it has been the most wonderful experience and has taught me so many valuable life skills, whilst allowing me to provide a life-changing experience to a deserving young person each year.

I have copied some more information, including links to our application form and our current recruitment leaflet below. If you would be happy to share this I would be extremely grateful.

`

If you, or your young people, have any questions please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Kindest regards,

About the Scottish Holiday - The Newman Holiday Trust is a voluntary organisation which provides free residential activity holidays for children and young people with additional needs who are from disadvantaged backgrounds from across the UK. The Scottish Holiday has been running for 25 years and will take place from the 15th to the 23rd of July this summer at Strathallan School in Perth. There is no cost to volunteers for attending – all food and accommodation is provided, and car shares can be organised. All training is provided at the start of the holiday and no previous experience is necessary. You’ll be giving the holiday of a lifetime to a child that wouldn’t otherwise have one. To be a full helper you will need to be 18 by the start date of the holiday. More information about the holidays can be found at our website here, and if you want to apply the application link is live here and closes in early March - so get them in quick! Any questions, please contact scotland@newmantrust.org

About the Newman Trust: The Trust provides holidays with one-to-one care for over 140 children aged 4-16 every summer in various locations around the United Kingdom. The holidays are provided at no cost to the children’s families.

Due to the high level of skilled care, they require or financial circumstances, the children selected for these breaks would not otherwise receive a holiday. The holidays provide a range of fun activities in a safe and supported environment and use a care ratio of one helper to one child at all times. Each holiday includes at least one fully qualified nurse whose sole task is to take care of the children’s medical needs.

The Trust is an entirely voluntary organisation and owes its success to over 200 people who dedicate their free time to helping these children. This voluntary structure ensures that every penny raised goes directly towards a child’s holiday.

About Volunteering: Being a volunteer helper on a Newman Trust holiday is a wonderfully rewarding experience. You will enable deserving children to have a holiday of a lifetime and contribute to a unique experience for all involved. The holidays are FUN, FULFILLING and strangely ADDICTIVE! `

That said, the holidays are tiring and sometimes emotionally demanding. Real commitment is required before the holiday and on the week.

All new helpers are required to attend a recruitment session to meet a representative from the holiday so we can complete background checks. On the holiday itself it can be tough work looking after someone with additional needs and you'll need to put every effort into helping your child and working within the group. However, there's a lot of support, it’s great fun, and incredibly rewarding.

No prior training is needed - just a strong will to help others, lots of energy, and a sense of humour. There is also a very supportive and friendly environment with the more experienced helpers actively helping those newer to the role.
