They face tough matches against England and Wales, and we wish

KATE BOLE A huge congratulations to Kate Bole (L6) who

has been selected for the Scottish hockey

national emerging girls’ squad. This is an

achievement that has

come about with huge amounts of effort and

determination. Kate is a key part of our 1XI

hockey squad, and we wish her the best of

luck with her training

and matches to come.

them the best of luck!

HOCKEY 1XI HOCKEY Over the course of this season we have really grown as a team excelling all the way through till our last match. We made it all the way to the east cup and Scottish plate semi-finals, unfortunately losing out on the Scottish plate by sudden death penalty flicks. It has been great to see the hard work and determination that has gone into training and fitness sessions, and it has shown in the matches where we are getting better and better. -Katie

2XI HOCKEY The 2XI team started completely new. This meant that we had to work hard to understand each other’s skills and weaknesses and build connections in a short time. Unfortunately, a lot of games had been cancelled due to weather, however at training everyone always had a laugh and pretty quickly we all became close. The atmosphere within the team and desire to work hard for each other is deeply important within the seconds. Despite facing tough teams, we ensured to play our hardest till the end and it is very much an admirable trait.

1XI HOCKEY

3XI HOCKEY This season the 3XI had a loads of great training sessions, focussing on fitness and individual skills. we had a hard round of games, but the team always tried their best and stayed positive and finally after Christmas we won our first game. Well done to everyone who survived the many doggies and thank you to miss Strachan and miss Campbell for doing a great job coaching us. Looking forward to coming back next hockey season to improve even more! -Eve & Izzy

HOCKEY 4XI HOCKEY

Individual strengths and working as a team to maximise success using our players to the best of their abilities. Training drills this season has been focused on improving on things directly from our weekend games which has helped us all develop our analytical skills and being able to play better the following week. Looking forward to the next season as a more consolidated team! -Milly

LOWER 5A HOCKEY This year's L5 hockey has been very fun and enjoyable, especially being our last year doing hockey together as a year group. We enjoyed doing matches on Saturday and getting to go on the long bus rides together and come home with a win. Even though we are not the best the L5A team managed to get into the cup semi-final for the S3 tournament. We have all also appreciated hockey training after school on Mondays and have had loads of fun playing with our friends.

LOWER 5B HOCKEY

This year, I have been honoured to captain the L5B team, along with my four vice-captains. It is my first year being a captain, and I am happy to say that I couldn’t have asked for a more exceptional team to lead, as they have made hockey the most enjoyable that it has been for me in the past five years I’ve been playing. They take on board any piece of advice a coach gives them, which helps them to take on the challenges that they face whilst playing hockey. The squad is close-knit group and are always keen to improve and learn new skills to enhance their performance during weekend matches against opposing schools. It never ceases to amaze me how optimistic they stay throughout the matches and how hard they work to turn the tables. Overall, we’ve had a fairly good season, and although we’ve had a few losses, we have continued to stay positive, learning from our mistakes and working hard to give the best match we can possibly give. I’m incredibly proud of my team, and I can’t wait to see how we support each other in the future. -Verity

HOCKEY UPPER 4A HOCKEY This year in U4 hockey, we have hockey club on Wednesdays. we have matches every Saturday. So far, we have won 7, drawn 2 and lost 4. the highlight of the season was when we came 2nd in the S2 tournament. -Isabelle

UPPER 4B HOCKEY Training on Wednesdays has been fun. We have enjoyed playing and training together and learning new skills. The matches we have played have had mixed results, but we have enjoyed playing them and working together. We are looking forward to improving more skills next season.

HOCKEY LOWER 4A HOCKEY

LOWER 4B HOCKEY

I have really enjoyed this hockey season! We have had so many matches and a few tournaments. In the S1 East district tournament we came 4th overall and the kilgraston tournament we came 3rd but I was very tight, only being beating by 1 penalty shot. We have had may wins and losses this season, but we have done and achieved a lot. I hope that next year the hockey training and matches will be just as fun. -Lily

2021 saw the welcome return to competitive hockey matches against other schools after the Coronavirus successfully shut down all contact sports, including hockey. Throughout the season the St. Georges L4 B team managed to secure seven wins, two draws and only five losses. I’m sure part of our success is due to how well our team managed to bond despite not having played together for just over two years. I’m really proud of all my teammates who have all played amazingly this season and can’t wait to get back to hockey with them later in the year. - Sasha

LOWER 4C HOCKEY The Lower 4 Hockey C Team has had a brilliant year. We have played so many games and have welcomed lots of new people this year. It was also exciting as we had the move to full pitch games. We trained hard, and the work paid off, with 4 wins. One of our last games was a friendly with Mary Erskine’s, and as the weather was really nice, it was great fun! - Clara

HOCKEY REMOVE HOCKEY So far, the season has gone well, all the girls have enjoyed working closely with Mr Fowles to try are improve their skills. I know new girls that have never picked up a hockey stick in their life before are really enjoying coming along on a Friday lunch time and becoming a part of the team. We’ve been working on harder passes, tackles and shooting. All the girls enjoy Saturday matches especially when they are away games and we some time get to travel with the team on a bus. We are all really looking forward to developing are skills further next year in Lower 4. -Neve

PRIMARY 6 HOCKEY

This season was the P6' firts full hockey season. We have played so many matches and played on our P6 tournament. We played lots for diffrents schools but unfortunately we didn't win but we all treid our hardest. We are so excited to start another season right away! We can't wait to start playing all the matches and start winning. -Larissa

NETBALL

Firsts

Seconds

Throughout the netball season so far, our senior netball team have been very successful, having won matches against Fettes, Mary Erskine and more. We made it through to the third round of the Scottish cup but unfortunately lost in a tight match against Balerno. In training we have been working on all aspects of the game and usually enjoy playing matches at the end. -Darcy

This season has gone extremely well for the team! Everyone has thoroughly enjoyed training, working specifically on development areas for our game which we have utilised successfully in matches. Our matches have been lots of fun and it’s been great merging the three-year groups as it has resulted in new friendships and a well bonded team. Everyone is really excited for next season and can’t wait to welcome the new players with a promising next season. -Grace

LOWER 5

UPPER 4

It has been such a great opportunity to be part of the L5 Netball team; I’m grateful to have been able to experience an enjoyable and collaborative team atmosphere. We recently had the chance to take part in the ‘Scottish Schools Netball Cup’, and although we weren’t very successful, we took on the challenge with a competitive and determined spirit. I can say confidently that we have all enjoyed playing in matches together and have improved our skills and techniques to a great extent since we first began last year. -Sophie

The training has gone well everyone has put a lot of effort into it we have only lost 2 netball games this year one of them which was in the Scottish Cup qualifiers so we unfortunately got out, but we won every other match and we are all happy about that because we haven't played a proper match in 2 years. A highlight for me would be being able to play against other schools again. Tilly

NETBALL

LOWER 4

This netball season has been great. We have had many opportunities to play matches against other schools. My highlight this season would be when we played against Broughton High School and won 22-4. It was a very good match and so was all the other games we got to play. Training has been fun as we got to learn about attacking and defending. We also get to play games against each other and do small drills. -Lucy

Primary 6

This Seanon netabll has been great! We have had training on Tuesday where we can play netball matches against our friends. We have learnt all the positions and most of the passes too. We've all really improved on our netball skills. We have loved playing games this season and can't wait for next term. - P6 students

REMOVE

In Lower School netball club, which takes place on Tuesdays we have covered the netball basics so that we can move the ball along the court and then focused in on elements of the game like shooting and defending. This has helped us to us to understand the game and play better as a team. At the start of the season some of us played a match against Edinburgh Academy and won 4-3 and we are looking forward to more matches in the future. -Elise

HOCKEY 7'S

Sevens this season have been amazing. Together as a team we have played several tournaments, with our highlight being playing heriots in the plate final, only to narrowly miss out and take second place. This was an amazing success especially as we had never played before and had to go over the rules of the game on the bus. After a shaky start we moved from strength to strength, starting to gel as a team and play well. These tournaments were an enjoyable day out with the team, and were lots of fun to participate in. -Katie

CURLING

Isla's continuing progress in the sport, having secured successes in the Mhairi McAughtrie Trophy which is held every year at the Stirling Curling Academy. The yearly event is specifically for under12s and is held in memory of a long-serving curling coach. The boys and girls from GPYC beat a number of teams to finish in first place and Isla also won a prize for the best shot of the competition, a welltimed drawing shot around wide 'guards' (which are blocking stones). The next weekend saw Isla compete in the Perth Fun Spiel organised by Scottish Curling. For the first time, Isla formed part of a mixed-rink team of four in the under-13 category, including girls from Kinross and Forfar. The team was triumphant and went on unbeaten all day to clinch the under-13 trophy after overcoming Hamilton in the final.

CLIMBING Lottie (U4) has been competing in the Scottish Youth Climbing series over the past couple of months. She has done extremely well given that it is the first time she has entered this competition and that she broke her arm just 4 months ago. She finished 8th in her age group (youth C age 12/13) and has been selected as a member of the Scottish youth development squad for 2022. Well done Lottie. All the best with your development.

Thank You This season the sport at St Georges has been amazing! Everyone has thoroughly enjoyed training and matches, with many successes to go with it. But it is not just the pupils that we should be celebrating, there is so much work that goes on behind the scenes that allow the sport to run smoothly and successfully. Tony and the Kitchen staff have kept us all fuelled, from providing packed lunches and snacks to muchappreciated bacon rolls every Saturday morning. The facilities team have made sure that we all get to our matches on time and safely in the minibus, putting up with our awful music and getting everyone to where they need to be. Not to mention getting up every morning to fix the pitches after the badgers dig holes all night. And Ms Patterson, who washes the bibs every week making sure they are fresh and odour-free, so we can focus on training hard. So much work goes in behind the scenes, and from all of the pupils, we say a big thank you for making everything happen. We also want to say a huge thank you to all of the PE Staff and external coaches who have stayed out through snow, wind and rain to allow us to train and reach our maximal potential and teams and individuals, and to the parents, who drive us to train and give up there Saturday mornings to watch us play. THANK YOU!
