PIPELINE

The Largest State League of Master Plumbers In The Nation

PRESIDENT’S REPORT

April already, we’ve had many discussions about the water heater bill to no avail. It seems as if it reaches a point then just falls to the way side only to start all over again. I don’t get politics, I thought they were there for the benefit of the common good. We have a lobbyist that speaks for us but again to no avail. Write to each and every lawmaker on a weekly basis? Having 1 person speak for us does not work. I’m asking each and everyone of you to write your representatives and express your concerns about the stagnation of this bill, Be a pain in the ass!! Do it daily if you have to. I don’t think they even know what the bill is about. I don’t think they care. If they don’t hear people complain it goes away in their minds, They have to be pushed and prodded like cattle, so push and prod. Contact your representatives, learn who they are, spread the word at your local meetings!! Let’s see if we as a league can make a difference... Thank you very much, have a nice day.

First Year Vice President Report

Fellow professionals and tradespeople, hopefully business is picking up for everyone & you all enjoyed these cold winter months. We will be seeing warmth & better weather soon!

I would like to bring to your attention; our lobbyist, Sam Weinstein, along with the PPAG are working diligently to schedule a meeting with assemblyman Wayne DeAngelo (IBEW). This is to address concerns with our legislation regarding the water heater bill and they are working with the NJ Department of Labor & Workforce Development to establish an approved SLMP apprenticeship program.Another issue they are taking on is the lack of enforcement on unlicensed contractors. To help combat these instances, please create a record and report the grievance to the Division of Consumer Affairs (DCA) as well as to the State League. Any photos or other documentation being submitted with your complaint will go a long way, so try to submit whatever you can. Another Item also introduced to the assembly is item no 5130Introduced Dec 16th 2024 Requires enforcing agency to conduct inspection in specified time window. The enforcing agencyshall notifyin writing, within 24 hours of receiving a request for an inspection, and not later than 24 hours prior to to the start of a time window set for an inspection, the owner, agent,or person in charge of the work,of a two and a half hour time window, during which the enforcing agency will conduct the inspection. The enforcing agency and inspector shall be subject to a complaint, brought at the discretion of the owner, agent, other responsible person in charge of the work, and filed on the departments internet website,of the enforcing agency.

Do not forget to sign up for continuing education this year for the 2025 renewal period. I had the ability to participate in 3 classes this month; Greater Newark, Southern Ocean, & Monmouth associations. Feel free to let any of us know if you would like assistance with attending one of these classes.

In addition to continuing education, we continue to host educational classes on the 3rd Thursday of each month from 6:00 to 8:30 at the CPR Facility; 75 New Brunswick Ave Perth Amboy New Jersey. These classes are open to all members, as well as your employees and apprentices. I hope most of you can make it there for the next class on March 20th! As always, gratitude goes out to Anthony LaMorgia and CPR Restoration for the use of their facility along with all of the members of our association and committee assisting throughout this process.

Another reminder to utilize the new NJSLMP.COM website, which is live and running with great resources for members. Everything from local to state associations & events are available for your convenience. Make sure to create an account if you have not already been able to gain access.

Please also remember that I along with a handful of our members are approved to instruct both HVAC and Plumbing Continuing Education. I would be more than happy to help anyone that reaches out in either of these courses.

Respectfully,

Steven Bouer, 1st Year VP (732) 904-5065 • steve@jerseyphc.com

Second Year Vice President Report

CONGRATULATIONS to our Paterson association for hosting there first meeting! It was an amazing day, great food and a good meeting. CONGRATULATIONS to the state league for coming to there senses and paying for the apprentices at the Triboro meeting !! I had the pleasure of attending the Paterson association as per my VP duties. One of there concerns was the timing of receiving the pipeline. Well our hard working brother and first vp Mr Steve Bouer has put it online now. Yes I agree we should receive it earlier but I do understand why there not. I also attended the Rahway association meeting. Wow what a turn out. There newly elected president Mr Joseph Russo has put the pedal to the metal along with his secretary Pete on having more training classes instead of a simple meeting. They had Navien crew there alone with Atlantic plumbing supply a yearly vendor at our convention. Great job guys and thanks for the invite. Don’t forget about the continued education class at CPR every 3rd Thursday of the month. Hope to see you at next meeting.

God Bless,

Mark Bleiweis, 2nd Year VP (732) 686-7415 • bleiweisplumbing@gmail.com

Third Year Vice President Report

Hello Brother Plumbers,

Please be aware of DCA Bulletin 24-1 (DEP minimum Standards for certain products). Take note of the New plumbing flow rate requirements . Example [public lavatory faucets max flow rate 0.5 GPM @60 PSI] . This is only one of many changes. Inspectors are going to be checking for compliance with this new requirement. Convention is coming up in June. All members are encouraged to come down and participate.. The trade show grows every year and is always a good opportunity to meet new manufacturers and new suppliers .

Thank you,

Vincent Tinervia, 3rd year VP (732) 904-0111 • E-mail: plumbervin@aol.com

“Squirrels” By Dimitri Checkur

March 6th was National Dentist’s Day. Smiles, everyone. Smiles! Look in that Mirror over the next Pop-up Assembly you change; your Teeth are absolutely Amazing. Tooth enamel is the hardest substance in the Human body…even harder than bone! Each Person’s teeth are also unique to them. Like fingerprints, they can be used to identify a Body. THAT can be valuable in our Trade! Say for instance you’re working out of an unlettered Van, using another Person’s Plumbing License, and you get attacked by a Squirrel in a Belly-Crawlspace. You laugh…but it happens! People are ‘checked-out’ these days; you could be under the Belly of that house for years! Heck, if the heat was back on when the Squirrel kilt ya, and they never got an Invoice, they’ll sit on that Couch playing Phone Games for ages. Forget you ever even came! On their next leak, they’ll mumble something generic like, “Plumbers never call you back”, and find some other Gypsy. The new absconder might just crawl right over you, swiping your Wallet and Press Tool on HIS last Belly Crawl out to His unlettered Truck! It’s mayhem out here! That’s why I started suggesting if you do work illegally, just get an AirTag inside one of those large holes kids make in their Earlobes these Days! They can at least locate your Body. Or letter your Van.

Anyhow, Squirrels have one tough set of Chompers! Like Horses and Rabbits, their Teeth never stop growing! They need to constantly file them down, so they…Chew…ON…EVERYTHING! The Choctaw Indians even tell Stories that a Solar Eclipse is caused by a Black Squirrel gnawing on the Sun! You know how hot the Sun gets?! Thankfully, the Choctaw Nation has made noise for Centuries, scaring that bugger away. Otherwise, we’d be back in the Dark Ages. Yeah, Squirrels are long in the tooth, alright! Rodents are SO curious and destructive, they’ve even gotten into our Code Books! I’m not talking about the one under your seat with BBQ Sauce on the Cover. I actually mean IN the IRC. G2404.9. Rodentproofing requires that buildings with habitable spaces (live, sleep, work) or foodstuffs be constructed to prevent Rodents from entering. Then it requires openings around pipes, cables and conduit to be sealed. Ok, so what if we skipped a few rules on a few Jobs, and Bucky is already in the Building. Realistically, how destructive could a fuzzy little Squirrel be to household Plumbing anyway? Well, cover your Nuts; this gets crazy. Squirrels and Mice often sharpen their ever-growing Teeth on Wires and Pex! They EVEN Chew right through PVC! Now we got a problem… but don’t panic yet. One AI article states, “To keep Rodents from chewing on your Pipes, try providing them with a different water source?!” Are you Kidding Me? Homeowners can’t even remember to put Salt in the Water Softener! Now I have to start reminding those with Pex to water their Squirrel? Fortunately, the second option is Sleeving it. That’s better. Now I simply suggest sleeving all exposed Pex and PVC…in Copper! You get the ambiance of a professional install, with ALL the Cost-Savings of not having to sweat the job! See, there’s always a solution…just test your solutions for Lead or Arsenic before trying them; they’re turning up more frequently in our drinking water these days! Now you can Panic.

Back to that Squirrel biting Moons; I hope you’re not sitting down. Squirrels even travel through Vent Pipes and come Up OUT of Water Closets! Honest to betsy! Drain cleaners have removed Squirrels and other rodents in Waste and Vent Pipes for years. Yup… and don’t forget those Screens on your Dryer Vents and Direct Vent appliances either. Did you think that a Chimney Verification form was just for soot? It’s for the Squirrels of the World, my Friend.

So Chew on this; March is gone with the Wind! January 21st was National Squirrel Appreciation Day. Squirrels plant a lot of trees for us just by forgetting where their nuts were buried. Have you been leaving water out on Pex jobs to ‘Thank’ the little Critters? February 28th was your Code Change Submission Deadline. Did you submit a Request? The new 2024 Code Books should be crammed under our front seats in September. If you never send in a Submission, there will be NO Chattering about something you don’t like! March 11th was WORLD Plumbing Day. Did you Drive to the Statehouse in Trenton with the New Jersey State League Sticker on the back of your lettered Van! License renewals are due June 30th; contact one of our great NJSLMP Instructors to take your CE Course. The Third Thursday of every Month we have Educational Training provided at Anthony LaMorgia’s CPR Facility in Piscataway. Learn a little more. Finally, your true emotions were revealed when the Moon was covered during March 15th’s Lunar Eclipse. How do you feel emotionally? I feel great! I personally want to thank all of our dedicated Members who preserve our Trade. Thanks also to the great Choctaw Nation for scaring that mischievous Squirrel away. By their next total Solar Eclipse, the whole world will be plastic anyway…no more Copper or Steel Pipes to gnaw on. Pex was first installed in NJ in the late 90’s and only predicted to last 40-50 years. Swiss Cheese. Remember to see your Dentist, because we’re going to be very busy! Soon, Crawl Spaces will look like the Bellagio Fountain in Las Vegas. We chose the right Trade, my Brothers! Smiles, everyone. Smiles!
