I hope your travel went well. Welcome to Brussels for the in-person week of the EU Tech Policy Fellowship 2023
Over the last month it's been a great pleasure to get to know all of you a bit better. I firmly believe that this one of the most talented groups I have worked with in my career, and I really don't say that to all the groups!
I do want to stress that we live in a "time of perils" It is up to governments around the globe to prevent us from global catastrophic risks. Therefore your career has the potential to contribute to the future of this continent and possibly to the future of countless generations.
This could be a heavy burden to carry but there is no need to carry this alone Just take a look around the room as we go through the sessions this week My hope is that this cohort will become a true fellowship, on a lifelong journey towards a safe and prosperous future for this continent and humanity.
Enjoy the journey ahead!
Jan-Willem
Bienvenue à Bruxelles! The EU Tech Policy Fellowship was created to enable promising EU citizens to launch careers focused on regulating high-priority emerging technologies, especially AI and cybersecurity
We aim to provide you with the ambition and tools to play an important role in shaping European AI/Tech policy and to gain a head start in your career.
You will leave the programme with:
An understanding of the regulatory landscape in Brussels
Either career capital (for example, having spent several months interning at a relevant institution) or completed applications for relevant positions within the EU institutions
Now is a critically important time in the development of policy Policies pertaining to the EU's regulation of AI, laid down in the coming years may greatly effect millions of lives and perhaps all future generations
We need many well intended, well informed people to work on these challenges
Gaining exposure and a relevant network is key to building career capital and influence over time “Breaking in” is challenging but once in, we believe individuals may be able to positively influence upcoming European tech policy and make substantial positive differences and help us steer a better course
By helping you at this early inflection point, we aim to to significantly increase your counterfactual impact over time.
Testing out, in a robust way, whether or not you are a good fit for various roles in policy is valuable to your decision making processes.

The European Parliament is the directly elected legislative body of the European Union, representing the citizens of the EU member states and participating in the decision-making process on a wide range of issues affecting the European Union.
The Parlamentarium is the visitors' centre of the European Parliament and is located in the Parliament's Espace Léopold complex in Brussels. The official opening was on 14 October 2011 by President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek.
Many people came together to make this program a success: the team, you, our fellows, our expert speakers and our advisors. We’d also like to sincerely thank our primary seed funder who enabled us to launch TFG and EA Funds who kindly funded the operational costs and much of Training for Good’s general expenses, making this program possible
