GSL’s report to AGM 2017 I would like to first of all to congratulate Louis who has agreed to become President of the Scout Group and stay as member of the Group Executive. I will also be presenting him with his 20 year service award at tonight’s meeting.

I would also like to extend my own personal welcome to John Driver who has accepted my invitation to become the new Group Chairman and also to Lynda Driver who is returning back to us to become Assistant Group Scout leader.

The last year has proved challenging for the Group as we have had many leaders, myself included, who have rightly had to concentrate on their own personal lives and move away a bit from their Scouting. The group however has continued to offer good Scouting and as you will see from the section reports offered a wide range of activities and experiences.

I am pleased to say that our leadership team continues to expand and would also like to welcome Tony and Sam to the Group and hope they can continue on in the spirit that the Group has always run by. I would also like to thank Jo who has moved away and therefore left us for all her hard work towards the Beaver Section.

The Group has started to us OSM (online scout manager) this year and will continue to fully utilise this over the next year. You as parents can login and see your young person’s achievements and it also allows for full calendar and email contact in a secure manner. It is also hoped that we will move to its payment system in 2018. If you have not logged in as yet please give it a go, you should have received a welcome email from the system but if you cannot find speak to me or Steve Irwin (our OSM champion) and we will arrange for it to be resent.

The last census shows that we had a decrease in young people numbers from last year, this is mainly due to the decision to merge our Explorer Unit with the Tazmanian Devils in Daventry due to a leader shortage at both. We also will reduce numbers in this next year in the Scout section due to a large number going to Explorers and a reduction we experienced in the Beaver section 4 years ago

A full contact list is on the notice board outside As you will see we have started to refresh the Den and will continue in improving our facilities, I would like to thank Steve day for undertaking our risk assessments for the building and all the young people, leaders and parents who helped on the recent work day.

The group is moving forward this year and had plans for a Group camp next year as well as a recruitment campaign for new young people. We will continue to be visible in the community and hopefully continue to move forward.

I would like to thank everyone involved in the Group for all their hard work and dedication throughout the previous year and hope that we continue to offer high quality Scouting here in Braunston

Finance Report First of all I would like to apologise to Sara who volunteered to be treasurer but due to my personal life meant I was not able to facilitate the handover, this will be done before the end of 2017 and I hope that she will be doing this report next summer As per the reports below, last year was a good year with an excess of income over expenditure of £518 and this includes putting away £1460 away from donations and other fundraising towards building projects such as the Den refresh and completion of the works in the kitchen We have challenges in the forthcoming year as prices of electricity and gas have increased.

It is proposed the subscriptions will be raised to £10.75 a month for all sections from April 2018

Scout Leaders Report 2nd Braunston Leaders Meeting 2nd November 2017 Membership: We currently have 8 scouts regularly attending: Evie Law Felicity Cooksey Marianne Leahey Luke Knights Poppy Craig Constantin Kelleher = Not invested Cai Williams = Not invested Finn = Not invested Numbers are low in the scout section as we have moved 6 into the Young Leaders section.

We initially put a stop to direct entries into the Scout section but at this time I think this needs reviewing as there have been a number of scouts leave and from what I believe a gap in the numbers joining through cubs.

In the new year we are going to work on promoting the Scout section in the village.

Activities completed in 2017 reporting period

The Section attended Crocodile world with the cubs, everyone had a fantastic day. The scouts asked for more joint activities with the cubs but when it came to promoting the trip to a Coventry Mosque there was no interest. Will look into why this was as David put a lot of effort into this and even attended Scout one night to promote it.

Stuart’s wedding On 09/09/2017 a couple of Scouts attended the Wedding of Sarah-Jane Muddiman & Myself as a Guard of Honour. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them all as it was a lovely surprise.

Startrek 2017.

We only entered one team this year consisting of: Evie Law (Capt) Maryanne Leahey, Felicity Cooksey, Poppy Craig & Luke Worgan 13 teams entered the event with 2nd Braunston finishing the course and achieving second place. The winning team was a notably older team but our group narrowly missed out on top spot.

2 years of in a row finishing 2nd is excellent and a fine example of the commitment the scouts have shown to scouting skills and the quality training given to them over the year by all the leaders. Could 2018 be 2nd Braunston’s year? All competitiveness put aside I’m very proud of the Scouts and it makes all the time, effort and devotion put in by the leaders and young leaders well worth it.

2nd Braunston supports this event every year and I would just like it noted that I’m also proud of the time given by the Leaders on the bases And a big thank you to the parents and partners who helped with the booking in and thank to Lauren Stafford for her help at the start representing the Young Leader at 2nd Braunston “I’m sure she wanted to take part”.

Work/DIY day The scouts will be supporting the Leaders to paint the Den on the 11/11/107.

Remembrance Day Remembrance Day service at All Saints Church. The scout and Young Leader Section will be attending.

Christmas Party It has been decided this yearâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Christmas Party will be at another location and not the traditional Ice Skating event. Details on the venue/Activity have not been finalised to date and I await feedback from the leaders organising it.

Brass Monkeys Camp 2018 The Scouts and Young leaders will support the Brass Monkeys 2018 Camp if the program and arrangements are to the satisfaction of the Scout Leadership team. We await the Brass Monkeys Camp information to make a suitable judgment.

District Scout Quiz March 2018 â&#x20AC;&#x201C; Brausnton Scout Group will run the Daventry District Scout Quiz. The village hall has been booked. Stuart will be running this with the support of anyone who wants to get on-board. Your help is very welcome.

2nd Braunston Scouts: Scouts Winter 2017 Programme 11/10/2017 (07:00 to 21:00): Mini Startrek 14/10/2017 (20:00): Startrek 18/10/2017 (07:00 to 21:00): Cardboard Crazy Cars Build a rubber band powered cars the one that goes the furthest under its own steam wins a prize.

25/10/2017 (07:00 to 21:00): Pumpkin Carving Please bring along a pumpkin to carve on the night stencils are allowed as long as you can complete it during the course of the evening.

01/11/2017 (07:00 to 21:00): Cooking Night Neil will be running a fun cooking evening for the scouts.

08/11/2017 (07:00 to 21:00): Shooting 12/11/2017: Remembrance Sunday The whole group will meet at the den, parade up to the church for the service.

All scouts are expected to turn up to this service as we like to pay our respects to those that have fallen. More details to follow.

15/11/2017 (07:00 to 21:00): Debate Night Michaela will be running a fun and lively debate night.

22/11/2017 (07:00 to 21:00): Digital Citizen Stage 1 of the Digital Citizen badge.

13/12/2017 (07:00 to 21:00): Christmas activity TBC We are looking at options for this event but we are struggling to find something at a reasonable cost any ideas let us know.

Conclusion 2017 was always going to be a challenging year for the section due to the number of social events the leadership team are involved in restricted their availability to attend District events, run camps or regular attendance on a scout night.

Putting this aside the group is still delivering an all-encompassing program that meets the needs of the scout association and more importantly the young people in our care. We now have an interesting period as we aim to work with the District to evolve our Young Leader section. The introduction OSM has massively helped but some leaders are using it more than others and this is proving a challenge when you try and keep records up to date. One of our scouts is now a support and Cubs as part of their Bronze DofE and we hope this forges better links between the sections as young people progress. Thank you to all the leaders who have supported the section over the year.
