The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Robert Louis Stevenson; Illustrated by Scott McKowen; Afterword by Arthur Pober What would happen if we could separate our better selves from our baser half? Dr. Jekyll discovers the horrifying answer in Robert Louis Stevenson's gripping, atmospheric novella. An instant success upon publication, it chillingly illuminates the darkest aspects of the human soul. While at first Jekyll revels in the freedom of his dissolute alter ego, gradually Hyde begins to take over Jekyll's entire being--with devastating consequences.

MY MASTERPIECE SCYTHIAN METALWORK Since the griffin—a mythological animal with the body of a lion and the head and wings of a bird—is said to possess protective powers, it‘s a good creature to have around. This metalwork version is based on a 2,600-year-old gold griffin in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the decorative box includes a plastic mold, two sheets of gold-colored metal, a rubbing tool, a stylus, a repoussé tool, and a foam pad.

MY MASTERPIECE TIFFANY STAINED GLASS Tiffany Stained-glass was inspired by Hibiscus and Parrots, a window in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art made by Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848– 1943). Crafters will find a preprinted acetate template, transparent paint in eight hues, a paintbrush, and a suction cup for hanging the box on a window, where all the colors will shine through!

Youngsters can test their budding abilities by doing picture crosswords (the clue is an image, and the child writes the word in a grid); circling letters that don't belong; connecting the dots to create a picture; and filling in blanks to reveal a famous nursery rhyme.

All the crosswords have themes, too. “Around the Yard” deals with things that might be found in a neighborhood (like cars, fences, flowers, and trees). “Grocery Shopping” has milk, bread, orange juice, and other food, along with one non-food item for children to pick out and circle. As they recognize each object, kids can practice newly acquired writing and spelling skills by filling in the grid.
