INDIAN INNOVATION LAB

Santa Fe ISD worked together with the Santa Fe Texas Education Foundation to create this vision, highlighting the significance of teamwork Various stakeholders, such as teachers, administrators, technology and transportation departments, as well as input from students and parents, were crucial in shaping the Indian Innovation Lab.

The Indian Innovation Lab provides many solutions to outreach for literacy and STEM in Santa Fe ISD and within our community. During the summer, it accompanies our Summer Reading Program and our Summer STEM Camp for additional outreach and hands-on opportunities. Beyond that, the bus will make scheduled appearances throughout the Santa Fe community Having the bus fully outfitted with books and STEM activities provides a much-needed additional layer of learning to support classroom instruction while giving opportunities for students that they otherwise would not have

Throughout the academic year, the Lab will rotate among all five campuses in the District, offering instructional materials tailored to lessons and grade levels. Teachers will have the opportunity to engage students in hands-on learning experiences and enrichment activities.

Future plans for the lab involve integrating Santa Fe High School's CTE students who are studying teaching and STEM fields to assist with events. This collaboration will provide students with valuable volunteer hours and practical experience in their chosen fields.

“WE ARE THE SANTA FE INDIANS AND WITH SCHOOL PRIDE AND “WE ARE THE SANTA FE INDIANS AND WITH SCHOOL PRIDE AND HISTORY RUNNING DEEP, WE WANTED TO NAME THIS GROUP HISTORY RUNNING DEEP, WE WANTED TO NAME THIS GROUP SOMETHING HONORABLE. THIS IS HOW OUR SENIOR WARRIOR SOMETHING HONORABLE. THIS IS HOW OUR SENIOR WARRIOR PROGRAM CAME INTO EXISTENCE.”

SENIOR WARRIORS

Our Community, Our Legacy, Our Future! This motto embodies what Santa Fe ISD stands for In this district, we strive to make sure that every decision we make is centered around each word in our motto As the 2022-2023 school year came to an end, the SFISD Communications Department was focused on the “Our Community” piece and realized that there was a group of individuals who were being “missed”, the senior citizens of Santa Fe. This group of people does not always have a reason to be connected to the school district, so they wanted to give them a reason to be connected! Jenny Davenport, SFISD Assistant Superintendent, and Stephanie Lyssy, SFISD Communications Specialist, put their heads together and their purpose and vision came to fruition very quickly! They wanted to ensure that the senior citizens could see and hear about the wonderful things our students and staff are doing

The pair planned to host events throughout the school year Most of the events would be student-focused and student-led It was important for them to make sure that the Senior Warriors met with students and teachers and heard firsthand what they were learning and doing

The first event was technology-based The SFISD Director of Technology presented about identity theft, internet safety, password protection, and scammers This inaugural event did not yield the participation they had hoped for, but that did not deter Davenport and Lyssy

The next three meetings were led by the Santa Fe High School Floral Design group, the Culinary Arts group, and the Advanced Arts group.

We are the Santa Fe Indians and with school pride and history running deep, Davenport and Lyssy wanted to name this group something honorable This is how our Senior Warrior program came into existence

Senior Warriors created a fall pumpkin craft, took a cookie decorating class, and painted with an SFISD twist! The attendance level for these meetings quadrupled! These senior citizens spread the word! The feedback that the Communications team received was excellent They are looking forward to hosting the 2024-2025 Senior Warrior Meetings!

THE STORY OF THE LOST CLASS RING

It’s 1987 You’re spending the day with your family at the Texas City Dike You’ve just gotten your class ring and are so proud of the ring and your future graduation that you don’t want to take it off! After a day of fishing, swimming, and hanging out, you look down only to discover your ring, the one you just got, is missing You and your family retrace steps to search for the missing ring No luck

You leave, sad and disappointed The blue stone and personalized engraving was something special and it’s just gone

Fast forward to January 2024, the Marine Debris Division of the Galveston Bay Foundation just conducted a debris survey They are used to sifting through beach trash, fishing lines, bottles, and much more This time was different They discovered something shiny, a ring It was a class ring in almost perfect condition

Lisa Scobel, the Program Director for the Marine Debris Division said that the discovery is quite rare! The ring belonged to a Santa Fe High School graduate from the Class of 1988 It had the inscription, J E E Lisa went to work and reached out to the district Marsha Banda, the SFISD Skyward Administration Specialist, took on the task and began searching through the district database and old yearbooks She had narrowed it down to a John E Evans She posted on Facebook and through the power of social media, the owner of the ring was found! Marsha reached out to Mr Evans to share the good news and set up a time for him to be reunited with his long-lost ring

Lisa and Marsha had the pleasure of reuniting Mr Evans with his ring The story at the beginning was his recollection of the day that he lost the ring

Mr Evans was pretty shocked to see how good the ring looked after 37 years of being in the sand and salt water

We just love happy endings like this!
