Discovering My Place

Welcome

Welcome to the St Dunstan’s Festival 2025. It really doesn’t seem like a year since I last wrote a welcome note for the Festival brochure. Each year we build on the success of the previous festival and this year is no different. We have over 170 workshops, talks, exhibitions and performances across 12 fun packed days. Whilst the main Festival site remains at the Jubilee Grounds in the heart of Catford, this year the Festival events spread across all of the St Dunstan’s group to include both Rosemead and St Christopher’s the Hall in the celebration of all we stand for as a group.

I am often asked what the purpose of the festival is and my response is threefold:

To Elevate the experience of all the young people who study at SDEG schools, offering them experiences and opportunities they wouldn’t normally have access to as part of the curriculum.

To Collaborate with other schools and organisations in the community, enriching each other’s lives with skills, talents and shared experiences.

To Celebrate all we are as a group of schools, and the amazing work, progress and outreach that our students make every year.

We are so fortunate to have a progressive and forwardthinking CEO in Nick Hewlett, who has championed the renaissance education we offer here at St Dunstan’s, with the festival being one of the key tangible outcomes of that commitment.

Another step forward this year is our partnership with Lewisham Council to deliver The BIG Catford Weekender, a Catford wide community event over the central weekend of the Festival, of which our Catford Weekender will be the main event. It is so exciting to be opening the festival grounds to the local community for live music, workshops, football, fun family activities and so much more.

We hope that you all will make the most of the opportunity to Albam Exorna (Adorn the White) during the Festival, whether that is through a workshop, talk or one of the fabulous performances. I look forward to seeing you at one of the events.

OUR BURSARY CAMPAIGN

Help Us Shape Young Lives

Education transforms lives. Expanding the funds we have for bursaries has been a significant priority for St Dunstan’s in recent years. Bursaries at the College give academically able children from lower income families the chance of an excellent, and often life-changing, education. Widening access through bursaries is also a key vehicle for improving social mobility and a route towards a more inclusive society.

It takes just over £20,000 per annum to support a bursary student in the Senior School. Since the launch of our fundraising efforts in 2020, we have raised nearly £1.5m and have a further £250k pledged to us. Our first Telephone Campaign in August 2023 alone raised £100k thanks to the generosity of parents and alumni. The College’s Development Board, made up of twenty committed alumni benefactors, is funding a full bursary every year and our recent Fundraising Ball in celebration of the College becoming co-educational 30 years ago was a resounding success.

Our aim is simple: to raise £5m by 2028 which will coincide with the College’s 140th anniversary.
How to make your gift...

All donations, large or small, are precious and meaningful regardless of the amount. You can give in a number of ways:

• By donating your deposit when asked by the Development Office

• By setting up a Direct Debit (top right QR code)

• By Match Funding through your place of work - please enquire through your HR department or email Mrs Isabelle Blake-James at: iblakejames@stdunstans.org.uk

• By making a single gift, using the QR code, bottom right.

Navdeep Sheera (‘85)

As a student at St Dunstan’s College between 1975 and 1985, I benefited from Bursary support throughout my Middle School and Sixth Form years. It is the primary reason a child, son of immigrants, from a council estate in Charlton, went to Cambridge University. I am now back at the College as a Governor and Chair of the Development Board. I would like to pass the baton, so that other students can benefit from the Bursary Fund.
