MAJOR OFFICIALS NEWSLETTER

EDITION FOUR | 26.03.25

Dear all,

Welcome to the fourth edition of the Major Officials Newsletter. Last Thursday we held our second School Council Meeting as Major Officials, which was very successful, so thank you very much to all that attended and contributed. We discussed the ideas and motions raised in the School Council Meeting with Rich in Fishes Lunch on Monday, and have our Whole School Meeting next Monday, March 31st.

Regarding EDI, we are keen on introducing cultural food as part of celebrating events, and we would like to continue exploring new cultures that we can celebrate at school. We are considering doing a Morning Talk on the origins of Easter and Jewish holidays in future.

The Tuck Shop reopened last week, and we have decided that we will be open every little break, and by request, we are experimenting opening after school until around 16:10 on Thursdays, as an alternative to the recurring toast after school motion. In addition ,the pasta bar in the cafeteria will also have some new sauces instead of just tomato. The new Grab and Go system is being introduced in September.

As for Be Green, new motion sensor lights have been ordered that will turn off when nobody is nearby, reducing our energy consumption as a school, whilst also reducing the expense of having lights on all the time! We are also interested in considering carbon offsetting the flights taken

for LSP trips, reducing the carbon footprint of St Chris. we have also taken into consideration that the school field - may require more bins as we are coming into summer time, -bb and that we need to be made more aware of what rubbish ----ishould go into each specific bin in general.

For Events and Fundraising, our Red Nose Day stall made £180 last Friday, and we received some great toy and book donations too! Over the final 2 weeks of the Spring term, we will be receiving donations of Easter Eggs for the children’s ward at Lister Hospital, and will be dropping them off at the Lister at the end of next week. We will have a reminder in morning talk on Friday, and will be receiving the donations in the Tuck Shop and in company time. We have also started discussing and planning a 24hr run for charity in the summer term, more information will be released soon!

In Freemans business we discussed jugs of water in the lunch hall so that people wouldn’t have to go and fill up their water so frequently at a fountain. This won’t be possible, however our solution to this is by purchasing larger glasses to use instead of the small ones used now, which would solve the issue. Cleaning/draining and repainting the netball lines on the Astro was also brought up, mainly to make it more safe, practical, and usable! We will be discussing this with the PE department now. More and better sports equipment for break and lunchtime was mentioned, which can be organised quite easily.

We are still holding our Social Space Committee on Thursday lunch in IT2 from 1:10.

Our Deputy Head Students, Archie and Abi, have been getting involved with the Junior School council, attending their most recent meeting. March 26th is the Junior School Open Day and they will be there to help out and represent the Senior School.

Finally, if anyone has any ideas or motions please don’t hesitate to email majorofficials@stchris.co.uk or speak to any of the Major Officials in person and we will discuss them further.

Thank you for reading,
