W O R K S H O P

I T H K A T Y W A T S O N

Growing up in a family of murder mystery addicts, Katy Watson learned early to look for means, motive and opportunity After studying English Literature - with a sideline in crime fiction - at Lancaster University, she set about teaching herself to write her own stories, while also experiencing enough of the world to have things to write about

Two careers, a lot of airmiles, one husband, two children, three houses and 45 published books for children and adults later, lockdown finally gave her the means, motive and opportunity to create her own murder mystery - with the aid of her scientist husband's knowledge of poisons Three Dahlias is the result

On Monday 3rd March, Katy will be delivering workshops with I Group, IV Group and UVI students to discuss her passion for writing, her process of becoming a published author and her inspiration for her novels. She will be teaching our students how to develop creative writing methods and strategies which students can utilise across their English lessons.

Wednesday 5th March

D.E.A.R

D R O P E V E R Y T H I N G A N D R E A D!

At St Chris, we promote reading for both pleasure and progress. D.E.A.R is a wonderful opportunity for everyone in our school community to embrace the joy of reading.

The concept is simple but powerful; at the beginning of each lesson throughout the day, I, II, III Group students and staff will drop their usual classroom routine, for the teacher to read an extract from a story.

A short story has been broken into 5 extracts and read section by section across their 5 lessons, building tension and questions slowly across the day. By the end of the day, they will have read a full short story.

Thursday 6th and Friday 7th March

Author Visit

Jade King is a dyslexic poet from the UK. Her work has been published in 3:AM Magazine, Schlag Magazine, Poetry Salzburg Review, Star 82 Review, and The Abandoned Playground.

Jade King's poems remind us that there’s magic in the mess and that even within the shadows of pain and despair, there’s a world waiting to be birthed into being. A work of immense bravery and skill, her collection shares deep vulnerability, and as such, a dazzling act of unapologetic resilience. Sucker Punch is a debut as thrilling and powerful as its title, a necessary and profoundly beautiful meditation on survival, strength and perseverance.

Across Thursday 6th and Friday 7th March, Jade will be delivering Poetry workshops with I, II, and III group students to discuss her journey into her role as a lecturer, whilst publishing her own expressive material. She will be delivering an exciting and engaging workshop, developing knowledge around structure and language used within poetry. Students will learn how to create their own poetry and be shown new strategies which could be used across their English lessons.

World Book Day

I, II, III, IV Group, LVI and UVI:

This is a fun opportunity for students and staff to dress as their favourite book characters for the day

Fancy dress is optional

Fancy dress options could be as simple as a pair of glasses, or a pair of cat ears, if you should wish. Do not feel pressured to put together elaborate costumes

If you are not sure of what to wear but want to be involved, take this creative twist on a costume idea: Instead of just donning costumes, represent a character’s personality through your own clothes For example, someone might wear a coat with numerous pockets to represent a character who’s always prepared for adventure
