PPE Plus PPE is one of the most successful and popular degree courses in which undergraduates read aspects of Philosophy, Politics and Economics. We have grouped some of our most successful subjects together in order to create a PPE Plus route. This involves students opting for three or four of the following: • English Literature • History • Politics • Religious Studies • Sociology • Economics These subjects lead perfectly into degrees in Economics, Social Sciences, International Relations, Politics, English & Philosophy.

8

Our Catholic ethos encourages students to develop their critical thinking skills and develop a deep sense of empathy to appreciate the views of others. Students opting for the PPE Plus route will be given additional study materials as well as membership to the debating club. These are the subjects with the best results at St Bonaventure's and PPE is the course that produces more world leaders than any other.

MESSAGE FROM OUR HEAD BOY

I am Jamie Halliwell and I’m the Head Boy for St Bonaventure’s 6th Form. I am studying English Literature, Theology, Sociology and Politics at A Level. If you are considering joining our 6th Form you are making the right choice. I have had the privilege of attending St Bonaventure's for all of my secondary education so I have seen how this is not your typical school. The school does not stand alone, it is firmly rooted in the community. It goes without saying that students receive an excellent education here and I have found that the teachers and staff genuinely love the work they do and are passionate about helping their students to reach their full potential becoming the best versions of themselves that they can possibly be. Students are encouraged to develop as individuals and find their place in the world whilst remembering they are part of a wider community and get involved in projects that benefit not just themselves but the surrounding area as well. Projects involving TELCO, various local charities, Stonewall and Headstart all have our students heavily involved working alongside them. Students are encouraged to grow spiritually as well as educationally and are guided daily by caring staff. Students are treated as adults and with respect. At St Bonaventure’s we understand that this is an ever- changing world and visitors will swiftly notice the diverse environment which promotes inclusivity and individuality. As well as making lasting friendships which will last beyond the school gates, St Bonaventure's to me is not bound by the walls of the school, it is a family that look out for each other and try to get the best out of each other. Tutors are attentive to supporting students every step of the way and help with UCAS applications, careers advice or apprenticeships. Whatever path you choose, you will be guided through the process. There are many 6th Form providers in Newham and the choice must at times seem daunting but what sets St Bonaventure's aside from the others is the attention, care and love you will receive here. I am absolutely certain I made the right choice to study here and have never doubted my decision. If you decide to do the same, I look forward to having you be a part of the St Bonaventure's 6th Form family too.

MESSAGE FROM OUR HEAD GIRL

Thank you for showing an interest in St Bonaventure’s 6th Form. I joined St Bonaventure’s from Kingsford Community School and am studying Politics, English, History and Extended Project at A Level. Straight away I fitted in and felt included, maybe because it is a supportive, academic and peaceful environment where young people learn to be successful and are encouraged to always do their best. When I was choosing a 6th Form, I wanted a place that would cultivate and hone my skills so that I could achieve my aspirations when I leave 6th Form as well as preparing me for the world of further study and work. I wanted an environment that is welcoming and safe: one where I am encouraged to work to the best of my ability and to form genuine friendships. I believe I have received all of this and more at St Bonaventure’s 6th Form and I am delighted that I have chosen to be a part of the success story here, because I know I have made the right choice.

Ashanaye Burke - Head Girl

Sport at St Bonaventure’s There is a proud tradition of sporting excellence here at St Bon’s. Students relish the opportunities to represent the school in a number of sporting pursuits and we pride ourselves on the dedication of staff and students in developing that talent. The success of our Sport and Exercise Sciences course has enabled us to develop our sports stars into high achieving academics at the same time. We are unique in that we offer a course which regularly sees our students progress onto courses such as Physiotherapy and Sports Science at top universities such as Loughborough and Exeter. Having continually received national and regional titles in Basketball, Football, Athletics over the years, 2018 was another productive year. The basketball teams won two national titles at under 16 and under 12; with many of our students representing the London region squads, and being involved with the England teams this season. Our football teams won numerous regional competitions throughout the year including London and Essex Cups and we won our first ever National Handball title at under 14, in the first ever year of entering the sport.

44

Our current provision for 6th Form Competitive Sport Enrichment is as follows; • Teams entered into ABL for basketball. • Teams entered into 5 different football competitions - including the Essex Colleges League. • High performing male and female performers selected to represent County and National Squads. • Girls Netball, Basketball and Football competitions. • Exclusive use of SportsDock, through our partnership with the University of East London.

As a result of our continued success, we have created a Basketball programme at Under 19 level to ensure a developmental pathway for our senior players. We have joined the Academies Basketball League (ABL) to take our provision at St Bon’s to the next level. We are one of only 30 schools nationally taking part within the ABL which brings the sport we love to the forefront. Game footage and statistics must be produced for each game and are made readily available for all players and coaches to help them thrive in an atmosphere similar to professional level basketball. We are also linked to Newham Youngbloods Basketball Club and London Lions, to ensure that our students are able to play National League Basketball.
