OVERVIEW
as it records 22 visitors gracing our shores, down 99.8% from the 13,042 arrivals in June 2019. This is believed to be entirely due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, which has negatively impacted economies all over the world with countries having to close their borders and/or limit travel to mitigate the spread of the virus. Anguilla officially closed its border on March 20, 2020 and to date has remained closed. This period under review concluded the 2nd quarter period with only 25 visitor arrivals; a decline of 99.9% over 2nd quarter 2019. The previous months of April and May 2020 recorded visitors of zero (0) and three (3) respectively.

PASSENGER MOVEMENT
Passenger
arrivals (including both residents and
visitors) recorded a decline of 99.3%; down to 145 passengers from June’s 2019 figure of 20,743 passengers. This was due to the limited international movement as well as the closure of the ports, including Anguilla’s main transit port St. Martin/St. Maarten. However, the movement in comparison to the two previous months may have been as a result of the Government of Anguilla’s controlled repatriation exercise. Anguilla’s usual main mode of entry via sea, recorded 1 passenger (0.7%) of the total arrivals; via the port at Sandy Ground. Passenger arrivals at the Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport totalled 144 (99.3%) of total passengers.
Passenger
departures recorded a decrease of 99.5%
relative to the same period in 2019, with 98 outbound passengers, compared to the recorded 20,743 in June 2019. These passengers may have been made up of visitors who remained after the official closure of the borders and subsequently decided to return to their country of residence. Passenger departures via the seaports of Anguilla totalled 6 (6.1%), of which 5 (83.3%) left through the Blowing Point terminal and 1 (16.7%) passengers made their exit through the Sandy Ground port. The Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport facilitated 92 (93.9%) of the total departures from Anguilla.
